The team had a goal this year to achieve 3rd at the State Team Chess Championships.  Last year, the team was 6th place, and wanted to improve that ranking this year.  Sure enough, the team was undefeated this year going into this tournament, and only lost to Gilbert High School to take 3rd Place.  Huge THANKS to Coach Dave Small, Coach Pettigrew, Mr. S, and everyone who has supported us this year!

Congrats to the BGHS Chess Team who had 2 team players win 6th place and 15th place at the AIA State Individual Championships in Tucson, Arizona on November 21st and 22nd, 2008.  The player who took 6th place also won the award for largest championship upset!  Congrats to our medalists and to the entire team for a job well done!

Update to the team and their families: 

 

The Award Celebration scheduled for Saturday, December 6th, has been postponed as the awards have not yet arrived at the school.  An e-mail was sent from Coach Small, and calls were made to every team member by the co-captain.

 

This celebration will be rescheduled to a future date once we know the awards will be in.  Our apologies for the delay.
