Welcome to Northpoint cooperative preschool! I look forward to a great year with you all! I wanted to create this site to help you get to know me a little better aside from the teacher in the classroom. I hope you will enjoy viewing the photos of my family and seeing me outside of NorthPoint. You will also find class information, reminders, upcoming events, class pictures, and files (classroom handbook, member handbook etc.) on the very bottom of this page. I will try to update the section titled "Latest Classroom News" daily. This is intended for a "classroom" web site. Classroom information, class news etc. at bottom of page.

I have been teaching at NorthPoint for 7 years. I very much enjoy the community at NorthPoint. The families make our school a great place to be a part of! I hope you will form lasting memories and lifelong friendships while at NorthPoint! As you know, I am married. My husband's name is Thorsten. He was born and raised in Wetzlar, Germany. (outside of Frankfurt) He came to the USA in 1996. He is a director of sales for one of the Hilton hotels.

We have two wonderful children. Our Daughter Kyla is 12 and began her first year of middle school this year. Our son Christian is 9 and in the 4th grade. They are both very active in school activities and sports. Both currently play competetive soccer.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I love watching my children play sports! I like to read, create fun picture videos, travel, hike, go to the beach, garden and like animals. My husband would say I like animals tooooo much. :)

My father was in the army so growing up, we moved every 4 years. As a child, this was difficult. However, as an adult, I appreciate this! I have lived in Italy, Germany (two times), Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan, Massachusettes and Washington. I have been able to travel almost all around the USA! There are very few states I have NOT been to. Living abroad was also great because I was able to travel to so many places and learn so much about different cultures. I have been fortunate to have been able to travel to Austria, Holland, France, and Spain.

My father has since retired from the ARMY and spent the past 6 years as a contractor in Iraq. He just recently took a contracting position in Juba, Africa.(Southern Sudan) He returns home a couple times each year or my mother flies to Ireland or England to spend a lengthy vacation with him. My father enjoys and believes in what he is doing.

My mother is retired and is finally able to enjoy doing things she enjoys such as projects in their home, crafts with our two kids, sewing, gardening, shopping of course and spending time with her grandchildren. She travels to visit my sister and her family often. Fortunately, she lives close to us in Tacoma and we see her all the time. I don't know what my kids would do without having their grandmother so close. Our kids enjoy their time with their grandma and we appreciate all that she does for us! While it is very difficult to have my father so far away for all of us and especially her, she is very supportive of his career.

I have one older sister. She just recently moved from Texas to Colorado and really loves it! She has her dream home in the mountains in a wonderful community. She is married and has two sons. My newphew Cameron is 14 and my nephew Gabriel is 10. Although we see each only once a year, we all remain very close.

My husbands family resides in Germany of course. It certainly is not cheap for a family of 4 to make it there too often if at all! My husbands visits on his own as often as he can. Thorsten's parents are retired. His mother a former teacher and his father an engineer. Thorsten has one older sister. She has 3 children.

*The helmet policy at the school is in place now. Please remember your child's bike helmet. PLEASE LABEL THEM CLEARLY. You can hang these with their coats in their cubbies. Please take them home after every class. Without a helmet, a child may not ride.

*AUCTION: February 21, 2009!!!! Start your basket and start procuring!!! Every little bit helps. This is our schools MAJOR fundraiser and helps us maintain our facility. See bulletin board in hallway for procurment forms and letters. Think about volunteering to help set up and take down that evening as well. Again, we depend on your help to make this a success! Your efforts are very much appreciated! (Also earn hours toward your required 4 volunteer hours) Have questions, ask your buddy, check the "school" website or contact Stephanie Hare or Shelly Davis. (listed in your member yellow pages) This is ALWAYS so a FUN filled evening! Parent ed credit for attending-1 per family but the best part is that it is a memorable evening with a great community of people and benefits the children. Please plan to attend-you will be happy you did!! It is worth it!

Latest Class News

CAP teaching materials and tools are designed to allow teachers to use a wide variety of teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of students. Can be adapated for any age group and for typically developing children.

Created to be used within Evidenced-Based practices and interventions including:
•   ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis)
•   DTT (Discrete Trial Teaching)
•   TEACCH (Treatment & Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped Children)
•   PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)
•   Social Stories/Social Scripts

Or, as stand-alone instruction for ELL (English Language Learners), At Risk students, and others with learning challenges.

They are research based, progressive, engaging and hands on. The success of our products is clearly evidenced by the academic and functional progress of the students using them.

*JOB SHEETS have been revised. Please refer to these when working in the classroom.

*As the weather is changing and becoming colder, please be sure to send your child to school with a coat. We go outside daily unless it is raining. Cold weather does not prevent us from going outddoors and getting much needed fresh air. Dress your child accordingly.

*If you are working in the class, please arrive 10 minutes "Before" class begins. If you are covering a working day for someone in class, it is encouraged to "trade" with them-you will work for them that day if they work on your next scheduled day. However, it is up to you to ask for the trade when agreeing to work or cover for someone. Please change this on the classroom calendar and inform you class rep of the change.

*If a child is unwilling to remain in circle time, that is okay. ALL centers are closed during all circle times. Please avoid negotiating with them in the circle area as it is disruptive. Please direct them to the libray where they can sit quietly and "look" at a book. Please do not interact with them in this area as that too is disruptive to the other children in circle and the goal is to get them to come to circle time and participate. Keep an eye on them but do not engage them in an activity in this area.

*Please have your child wash their hands before entering the classroom each morning or afternoon. Cold and flu season is upon us and we want to lessen the spread of germs in the classroom. Handwashing is done before coming in to class, before eating, after toileting, after nose blowing, after playing outside or indoors. Handwashing is the best way to prevent germs from spreading.
