Hi Parents!

11/12/08:  Just a couple of quick notes:

1st: Please don't forget the Fall Carnival this Friday night.  We really need volunteers to help out with our booth. Whether you were already planning to volunteer, or you can sense the desperation and feel compelled to help, please let Mrs. Joyner know as soon as you can.

2nd: If you are interested in getting text messages concerning Mrs. Joyner's class, please put a note in your child's agenda. I do not send that many messages out--just reminders of stuff kids sometimes forget to mention...

3rd: If you would like to help the school, you don't have to do it during school hours. There is plenty to do, and if you tell us what your interests and abilities are, there's probably a quick little task that's just waiting for you! Any help you can provide is valuable!

Thanks!

cVe words- These are the words that are like their spelling words. We talked about the word "tap" and when the "e" joins the word the vowel becomes long and says it's own name "Tape"
actions parts- These are the parts of the sentences that are telling what is going on. In another words, these are the verbs. For example, Sally ate a pie
exclamations- These are sentences that end with an exclamation point.

Short e,o,u- At this point our students need to know and understand the sounds that short vowels make. Please practice words such as net, egg, and elephant and the sounds they make.
Naming Part of the Sentence- The naming part of the sentence is basically the same as the main noun. Who or what is doing the action. They need to be able to identify who this is or create a sentence using properly the naming part. They must also remember that each sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with some form of punctuation.
Synonyms- Synonyms are words that tell the same thing in a different way (happy and glad, couch and sofa, and laugh and giggle). They will need to be able to make matches of words and come with one set of their own. These will be displayed in the room as a "Sea of Synonyms" next to the "Harvest of Homophones" we created last week.
