Youth who win will receive money to attend Teen Camp at NCSU in Raleigh!!! 

 

If you are under 12 you will be able to stay monday-Wednesday morning to compete at the state level with your presentation!!

Studios, the home of “One Tree Hill” and “Eastbound and Down”. They have 9 fully equipped

sound stages and one super stage. Stage 10 is the largest stage east of Hollywood and contains

the 3rd largest water tank in North America. We will also have the opportunity to visit Thalian

Hall and see what goes on behind the curtains. Thalian Hall is listed on the National Register for

Historic Places and was built at a time when Wilmington was the largest city in the state.

Cost $15.00 + lunch at McDonalds (they have to pay for lunch)

“Blowin Steam” July 9 8:30am-3:00pm

Enjoy a 1 ½ hour narrated cruise on the Cape Fear River on the Henrietta Cruise Boat.

The boat departs from the waterfront in Wilmington and goes up the river. Cruisers have the

opportunity to see Wilmington’s Waterfront and USS North Carolina from the river, as well as

wildlife and Wilmington’s Port. Lunch is served on board the boat. After the cruise, we will

enjoy a special ice cream treat at Kilwins famous Ice Cream store in downtown Wilmington.

Cost is $20 and includes lunch

Lake Sutton Fishing Trip

June 12th will be a day of fun at the lake from 9am-12:30pm.  NC Wildlife will be coming out to teaching us how to freshwater fish.  Anyone interested in this trip can call the office to sign up at 910-798-7660.  Please bring a lunch, and we will eat at the lake.  Snacks will be provided.   Transportation can be available if you sign-up through summer camp 


July 27th and 31 science field trips

* July 27th we will be doing a Lake eco tour at Green Field Lake, youth will learn about plants, animals, water quality and be able to ride the paddle at the end.  The program will be 9-11:30 and bring a lunch to eat at the park afterwards.  This will be for youth 10 and older.  The cost will be $10. Meet at Green Field Lake 9-12:30

 

* July 31st the youth will be taking a boat ride to Masonboro Island learning about marine life along the way.  We will then take a nature hike on the island have lunch and take a swim!  This will be for youth 10 and older.  The will be $15.  Meet at blockaid runner 9-1:30pm

 

* July 7th we are having an Eco Tour of Greenfield Lake for youth ages 5-9 years old.  The cost will be $5 a child.  The tour will be 9-11am.  They will learn about animals, plants, water quality and have a chance to ride the paddle boats if a parent rides with them.

 

4-H Clubs/Classes

 

1. Rabbit /Pet Club: On the 2nd and 4th Mondays this club meets to learn how to care for rabbits. They participate in the county fair and you do not have to own a rabbit to join! This group is open to all ages! Melinda Grant at 910-686-4021.  Meets at Poplar Grove from 4-5:30pm

2. Cooking Class Come learn to cook and bake! We will start with the basics and move on to more intense topics. Club limit is 20 kids so sign-up early! 5:00-7:00pm, Classes are 1st and 3rd Mondays. Rick Sloan:  910-259-1235 or 910-604-4287 for ages 10 & up. Limit 15  

3. First Lego League Level 2: This is for 11 & up, this club will build Lego structures/machines and compete against other counties.  Every Monday 4-5pm at the library near Wrightsville Beach.  This is a serious group and you need to come willing to learn and work without distractions! Limit 10 Please work on the project outside of the hour class time.

4. Shooting sports: For ages 9 & up, the meeting time is flexible and topics include; bow and arrow, BB gun, gun safety, shotgun, rifle and black powder.  We need a place to shot...any ideas???  For the North Carolina handout click here!  

5. History Club: Make History come to life with hands-on activities! They will study World, US and election process.  Prefer ages 7-14, will meet 2nd and 4th Mondays from 10-12 noon  Laura Wilkins montemma2002@yahoo.com

6. Love of Learning : Variety of topics discussed, ask for parents to share their talents and loves. 1st and 3rd Mondays from 10-12noon  Rachel Fields 231-2331

7. Sewing Class Level 1: Learn basic sewing techniques.  2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 4-6pm . Ages 10 and up, Limit 10 Sewing level 2 will start in January.  We will be designing and making your own outfit.  Start planning now!  

8. Health Rocks:  Learn about nutrition and participate in all kinds of sports and outdoor activities. For ages 10 and up, 5:00-7:00pm. Run by UNCW students, Next class at Wrightsville beach athletic fields  

9. Astronomy Club:  Learn the solar system, stars and universe.  2nd and 4th Thurs. 6:30-8:00pm

10. 4-H Homeschool Coop:  Pool together for educational and social activities of interest to members.  Create arts and crafts, attend field trips, enjoy outdoor activities and learn in a fun atmosphere.  2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 1-3pm  

11. Horse Club:  If you like to own or ride horses join Wilmington 4-H Horse Club.  Meetings are on Tuesdays twice a month 5.30-6:30pm, 5-19 years welcome! For more info visit www.geocities.com/ilm4h/horseclub or email ilm4h@yahoo.com

12. County Council: Currently we are meeting once a mouth.  The youth will help plan 4-H events, vote on fundraisers, trips, T-shirt design and take suggestions from the general public.  They will also learn Roberts rules of order and other management skills.  Meets from 6-7:30pm on he 2nd and Tuesday of every month. For 12 & up only except for 2 times a year where we will have a panel for them to sit on to give their ideas and opinions.  Limit 12

13. Big Cypress Farms:   Currently full but if you are interested call to be put on a waiting list.  They meet near Monkey Junction on Fridays at 5pm and learn about livestock, coastal environments and other outdoors topics.  Ages 5 & up Julie Congleton: juliecongleton@gmail.com

14. Cloverbuds: Learn various topics from gardening to sports.  Ages 5-9, 2nd and 4th Thurs from 4:30-5:30pm.  Right now Aimee, Limit 15

15.  Envirothon 1 & 2:  Learn about Current events, wildlife, forestry, soils and aquatics.  Middle school and high school groups, 5 youth on each team.  You will compete at local and district level in New Bern March 17th. Amy Galliher: creeksidereps@hotmail.com , Email Amy if you are interested

16. Chess/Game club: Come and play all kinds of games.  1 & 3 Mondays from 1-3pm

17. Express yourself: The youth will learn theatre, art, radio and TV.  This semester we are putting on a play and rehearsal will be every Friday from 3-5pm at the arboretum.
