Posted below are 40 photos and one video from Thursday, 3/18/10 -- day 1 of Silicon Valley.  Doug and I were there about 2 hours in the late afternoon, so these pictures reflect only that time period.  This is our impression of what was going on, from what we were told:

The robot failed to pass inspection earlier, from two main problems.  One was electrical and took awhile to figure out the cause.  It turned out the problem was due to the camera having a metal mount (it was grounding itself or something), so a new mount was built out of polycarb.  The other problem was bolts protruding somewhat from the frame.  Polycarb shims had to be added to build up the frame around the bolts so that the bolt ends no longer protruded, and then the bumper mounts had to be modified to accommodate the extra shims.  Most of the photos show work on making the shims and/or modifying the bumpers.

The robot successfully passed inspection around 5pm and was able to participate in one practice match.  There seemed to be some driving issues (I don't know why) plus some underbody shielding for the pneumatics came off and the top polycarb shielding came off -- new problems to work on!  There's a video of the match below. 

I apologize if this summary has errors or is incomplete, as we were only there a relatively short time.  It was great to see a good turnout by the team, with lots of concentrated effort and teamwork!  Congratulations on passing inspection!!  (One year the robot passed as early as 11am Thursday I think, but it's also passed inspection later, at the last minute early on Friday...)
