Marriage ceremony, two heart become one. There are various rules and regulations of marriage. These are different according to religion, culture and so on. We are Bengali. I am now gonna say about my brother’s marriage ceremony.

Bangladeshi marriage ceremony is divided mainly in 3 events. Some people add some more events. Now-a-days, it has become a tradition to increase the events. But there are also some people who lessen the events. ‘Kabin’ is the main thing in marriage. Christians get married in church; they accept each other as life-partner and kissed each other. But in Bangladesh and in Islamic regulation, it is different. Here, bride and bridegroom accept each other as life-partner and signed in a marriage registry book. The bride 1st says ‘kabul’ 3 times together. Then she signed. ‘Kabul’ means she agreed him as her life-partner. Generally when ‘Kabin’ held, the main event also takes place that day. But we did kabin in December 25th. And occasions are start from 21st January. Our events were divided in 5 events. 2/3 days before of the marriage, we have some tradition to done. From bride side, they give us dresses, sweets etc. And bridegroom also gives dresses and sweets. They also give two big fish disguising as a bride and bridegroom. We were from Bridegroom side. We all did what we have to do.

21st January, a event took place which name is Sondha Kota. We, the bridegroom called it Sondha kuta and the bride side called it Mehedi Sondha. This event took place on the same day but in different places and event’s regulations were also different.

22nd day was empty. I mean, that day nothing happened. In 23rd January, the ‘Gaye Holud’ of bride took place in a community centre near their house. ‘Gaye’ means ‘in body’. And holud is a kind of natural thing. We give it in bride’s body.

In 24th January, the ‘Gaye Holud’ of bridegroom took place in a community centre named ‘Officers Club’ in Beily Road (a place in Bangladesh). In bride’s Gaye Holud, we went there with lots of sweets. They welcomed us cordially. Then we had dinner and the event of that day was finished. The next day, Gaye Holud of bridegroom took place.

Bridegroom was and is my brother. His name is Adil and my sister’s-in-law name is Mou. So, the next day, they, I mean, the people from bride side came and we also welcomed them cordially. Having dinner everyone left. O, and in this two event, there were organized band show; we called singers to entertain the people of bride side and the guests. They also do the same.
25th day marriage ceremony took place in a community centre named ‘Dorbar Hall’. That day was of bride. They welcomed us cordially. And the welcome regulation was of so funny. They first time stopped us and asked to give money. It was just like a kind of fun or game, whatever you say. Anyway, we entered in the centre. The guests were coming and leaving after having dinner. They also brought gifts. O, and by the way, the bridegroom went to the gate riding in a horse. And behind of it, lots of cars were following him. And, there is another fun of stealing the shoes of bridegroom. The people of bride side try to steal the shoes and the bridegroom people try to protect it. It was just a fun. If the bride people able to steal the shoes, they return it after taking some money. It was really so interesting and funny and too much enjoyable.

26th day was again empty. In 27th day, the wedding ceremony took place at the same place where ‘Gaye Holud’ took place. We welcomed the bride cordially. Having dinner, guests left. They also brought gifts. After all the guests had gone, we danced and having more fun we also left the place taking the bride to our home.

And this the occasion, and thus the marriage ceremony of my elder brother ‘Adil’ finished. That’s all I just have to say.
