Today we learned about objects commonly found in the synagogue by participating in a scavenger hunt. The class was split into two groups and each group had their own set of clues that would lead them to objects that I thought they should know about. After each group found all of their objects, we gathered in the classroom to review out findings. Next time you are at the synagogue, ask you child if they know where the arrron kodesh, bima, ner tamid, star of david, 10 commandments, Israeli flag. Mezuzah, Torahs, tallit, and kippot can be found. Next, we reviewed the letters we learned with a little Hebrew yoga, which was a great way to practice and get a little stretching in. In celebration of Chanukah, we enjoyed a snack of donuts and gelt. Snack was followed by a trip to the learning center and tefillah. All in all we had a great morning!
I just spoke with the substitute teacher, Katie Gordon, who told me that the students had a great day last Sunday. They started the day by drawing self-portraits of themselves and then discussing how they were created in the image of G-d. They learned that it is not what is on the outside that makes them like G-d, but their inner qualities: their inner beauty, their character, etc. The student reviewed the Hebrew letters they have learned thus far and learned two new letters: Tet and Tav. Ask them about the Hebrew review relay race! The class had Tefillah and went to the , which will continue to be apart of our Sunday schedule. I will be back next week with no more foreseeable absences. The letters Tav and Tet will be posted to the website by the end of the day.
The students last Sunday had a great morning with Hillary Hirsch. They talked about G-d and how we know that G-d exists despite not being able to see him/her. They did a coloring activity where they explored G-d using their 5 senses. I can't wait to see what they created when I stop by the classroom tomorrow. The students also reviewed bet and vet and learned shin and sin.
Next week the class will be exploring more concepts related to G-d and learning a new Hebrew letter.
Please let me know if you are available to help with our pre-Shabbat cooking project that will take place in a few weeks!
