News Coverage
Fox 2 in St. Louis is going to interview the boys and I LIVE Tuesday on their morning news show at about 8:50 AM. Hopefully we will generate some more donations for the CFF. Thanks again for everyones support!
Final Day!
We rolled into the CF headquarters around 4:25. The entire staff was in the parking lot to greet dad and myself. IT WAS VERY COOL!!! We got a chance to go up to their conference room and have a little reception. I really appreciate everyone's kindness. Happy I did this, happy it raised money for CF, happy about all the support I got, happy to not ride a bike tomorrow and especially happy to see my boys tomorrow evening! Thanks eveyone!!!
Day 7 Pittsburgh, PA to Breezewood, PA
I am sitting at Holiday Inn Express in Breezewood, PA. It was a long day of climbing. The highest point today was 2,920 feet above sea level. The hill after that dropped us 1,600 feet in less, it was 6 miles almost straight downhill. Reached speeds of 45mph on a 20 lbs. bike. So much more fun coming down than going up. Brian and Steve are amazing riders. They would climb the hills like you wouldn't believe and then be sitting at the top waiting for me. The night clerk here has a niece that has CF. I will be talking to her in the morning. They were very nice and Welcomed me on their sign out front as Indy had. All the hotels have been great!!!
Day 6 Canton to Pittsburgh
We made it to Pittsburgh, we also picked up another rider for tomorrow. Brian's friend Steve is going to ride with us to Breezewood, PA tomorrow. We had some massive hills today. They suck going up but sure are a lot of fun going down. I got up to almost 43 mph coming down one of the hills. We stopped for lunch and threw the bikes in the trailer because it was a couple of miles out of our way. I did something really dumb...i left my helmut on the wheel well of the trailer. It was only on the side of the road probably no more than ten minutes but when dad went back it was gone! Then we had to drive 14 miles further out of our way to the local Walmart to get another helmut. Lots of looks from the locals, who would be dressed in all their bike gear, shoes and all, and then come in to buy a helmut. Oh well, I gave them something to smile about because their town is in morning, the Stealers lost today.
Day 5 Columbus to Canton
Everything was going well and then about 25 miles into the ride I hit something on the side of the road that threw me into Brian riding next to me. We both hit the ground. We survived but I jammed my elbow. We ended up riding another 90 miles after that, it was a long day of hills!
Thank you!
I also wanted to send out a big thank you to the Housekeeping staff at the Holiday Inn in Dayton. They ran all my riding gear through their on-site washing machines saving me from having to do it by hand in the bathtub.
Day 4 Dayton to Columbus
Confirmed last night a gentleman named Brian is going to come into Columbus tonight and ride with me from Columbus all the way to Breezewood, PA. Some friends of his might join us as well in Pittsburgh. Brian has CF his web site is www.briansride.org
Very excited about him riding along with me and ready to go to the CF event tonight in Columbus, "Half-way to St. Patricks Day"
Day 3 Indy to Dayton, OH
Another gorgeous day, again a couple of clouds would be a little welcomed. We made really good time today. Stopped for lunch in Richmond, IN right on the border of OH and met a lady on vacation from Festus, MO. She was amazed! The Holiday Inn we are staying at tonight has a lounge, thank god I only have 76 miles to ride tomorrow! Have a pretty cool surprise to tell everyone but have to work out the details first. Stay tuned!
Made it to Indianapolis
It was a long day but we made it. It was a gorgeous day, some clouds wouldn't have hurt my feelings any. Starting to a farmers tan from my jerseys. Oh well! The staff at the Holiday Inn Express in south Indy have been great. A local italian resturaunt brought Tracy and myself dinner as well. Off to the hot tub for a little relaxation.
KSDK Show Me St. Louis Interview
Had the opportunity to talk about the ride with local St. Louis afternoon show. Can't seem to make the link work in this entry so I'll add a link to the Media Coverage on the right side of the page.
Day 1
Well it didn't go quite as well as planned. We didnt end up leaving St. Louis until 10:30 AM. I am forever running behind, then we got a little misdireceted in East St. Louis of all places. We had to stop the last 14 miles because we ran out of light. My sister is not all about me riding in the dark. I plan on making up that milage on one of my shorter days. Other than that, it went pretty much without incident. Ended up riding 114 miles and averaged a little over 18 miles an hour. I guess the best part is I am not feeling to bad about riding tomorrow!
Should be in bed!
9/15/2009 12:15AM:
Little under 9 hours until we hit the road!
We taped the segment for Show Me St. Louis today. Right on cue, the boys played shy almost the entire time and would not get close to the "beer horse" at Grant's Farm. Overall I think it went well, guess we will see when it airs later today at 3PM.
2 Days to go...
9/13/2009 Running around crazy trying to wrap things up before we hit the road Tuesday morning. Hope the weather gods are smiling on us.
