Welcome

Welcome to Chilli's page.  Are you looking for a sweet cuddly lap dog?  Chilli is your man! He is a 9 year old chihuahua/Dachshund mix, but don't let his age fool you, he is very playful.  Chihuahua's can live to be 18-20 years old and he is very healthy.  He likes to sleep under blankets, give kisses, play with toys, but mostly he likes to curl up in your lap and relax.  He gets along with other dogs and cats, but would prefer a home without small children.  If you are looking for a fun sweet little guy you will adore Chilli.

He is being fostered through the Bella Foundation.  If you are interested in adopting Chilli visit the link on the right and fill out an application.  If you have questions, feel free to email me at meganmagnant@yahoo.com.  Check back soon for more pictures and videos.

Journal

3/26/12

I haven't updated in a while, so I thought I'd give a quick update even though there is not much to update.  Chili is still doing very well, I'm really surprised he hasn't been adopted.  i'm guessing it is because of his age.  But Chihuahua's live to be 18 to 20 which means Chili has only lived half his life. I added a link (to the right of the page) that lists the top 10 reasons to adopt a senior dog.

He is such a happy go lucky guy.  I know the right family is out there for him and he is patiently waiting.  For now he is getting all the love and attention in his foster home.  He gets along great with my 3 dogs and cat.  He will even sleep next to our cat :) He hasn't had any accidents since the first or second week we got him.  He loves to play!  and most of all loves to cuddle.  He likes to put his head on your chest and looks up at you with his sweet eyes. Please check out all the new pictures I have added, you can't help but smile at him.  As always feel free to contact me if you have questions about Chili (meganmagnant@yahoo.com)

3/4/12

Not to much to update this week. Chilli is such a sweet boy and I just love how he likes to cuddle.  He is sitting in my lap sleeping as I type this.  Today he finally convinced our chihuahua Ranger to play with him.  Unfortunately, I was so busy watching how cute they were playing that I didn't film them.  They had a blast chasing each other around for about 5-10 minutes.  Then they took a power nap :) Chilli is doing very well and hasn't had any accidents in the house! He still needs work warming up to new people.  His new family will need to be patient with him the first day or two.  It only took him a few hours to warm up to me and now he's my little buddy!

Update 2/24/12

If you are looking for a sweet cuddly lap dog, Chilli is for you!  He is such a sweet little guy.  He likes to sit on your lap and lay his head against your chest and look up at you.  He also likes to give kisses.

He gets so excited when we get home from work for the day.  He zooms around the house and jumps up and down.  He is a perfect mix of relaxed and playful :)

Housetraining update:  We decided to get Chilli a Belly Band (http://www.dogchatforum.com/belly_bands_dog.htm).  He wears it when we can't keep a close eye on him.  He doesn't seem to mind wearing it.  It's a good training tool and we plan to start slowly transitioning to him not having to wear it.

Chilli got a bath tonight so he can look his best at the adoption event tomorrow.  He was pretty good, just held on the the edge of the tub.  He was good for his nail trim.

He also really wants to play with our other dogs, but they don't want to play with him :( So I think that a more playful dog would have fun with Chilli.  We plan on taking him to the dog park again this weekend so he can get some playtime with other dogs.

2/16-2/19

We got Chilli on Thursday, he had been in a foster home before us.  Here are some of the things that we have observed over the last few days.

Personality:  Chilli is a happy go lucky guy!  He gets spurts of playfullness and gets the zoomies around the house and backyard.  He likes to play with toys, but mostly likes to cuddle on the couch.  His favorite spot is on the back of the couch where he can check out everything and see out the window. It does take him a day or two to warm up to new people and he is a little shy about new people petting him.  So whoever adopts him will need to give him a few days to adjust to being in a new home and around new people.  But once he warms up to you, he is very sweet!

Housebreaking:  We were told that he is housebroken, but he did have a few accidents in the house on the first day (Thursday) and one yesterday (Sunday). In between we had no issues. Just pee accidents and I think it may be because we have another male chihuahua in the house.  We are working on getting him to ask to go out and really praising him a lot for going pee outside.  So far we have him on a routine and we are hoping that it was just the new environment that made him have the accidents.  I will update how he is doing with this at the end of the week.

Crating: He is only left in a crate when we are not home and does good in it, with no accidents.  At night he has been sleeping in bed with us under the covers :) He loves to snuggle.

Other dogs and Cats:  He has been great with my dogs (I have 2 Border Collies and a Chihuahua) He has been to the dog park and will play chase with dogs that are his size.  He has done fantastic with our cat.  He has not tried to chase her, he even seems like he wants to play with her.

Leash Walking:  He does not seem to like to be walked with a collar, so we got him a harness.  It is a Comfort Control Harness that we got at petco, but any type like this would work best for him.  I don't think he would like the regular harness with the thinner straps.  Here is the link
http://www.petco.com/product/110236/Petco-Comfort-Control-Blue-Dog-Harness.aspx?CoreCat=OnSiteSearch

So far Chilli has been a joy to have around, he will make someone a really nice companion.  Check back soon, I will post an update at the end of the week and I am always adding new pictures.

Bio

Don't let my age fool you! I may have a few years on my buy I am as spry as a spring chicken!!! I am a loveable and fun boy. I would prefer a less active home where I can just have a nice place to snuggle in your lap all day. I have been around other dogs and do fine. I would prefer to be in a home without children. I can tolerate them but would be happier without them. I am housebroken and my favorite color is blue!!!
