Project # 60 - Anniversary Cake
The cake was blue velvet with white chocolate cream cheese icing. Yum!
Top of Cake
This cake had white roses and blue forget-me-not type flowers on it. All made from buttercream

Blue Velvet Mini Cupcakes
As you can see, these are some very blue cupcakes. They are actually a red velvet cake made from scratch; however, instead of red food coloring I used blue...

Daisy Up Close
So, this was supposed to have been a Gerber Daisy. Mixed feelings on how realistic it is, but it sure looks pretty!
She said she loved Gerber Daisies and wanted a "retro" theme...
I felt that the cake would be much prettier without any of my horrible lettering on it!
I think this kind of looks like wind currents...

Project # 27 - Mini Heart Cakes
Successful (mostly) are the one with the rose on top and the one with the ruffles. The one with the swirls was partially successful, and the other one was the one that I dropped. The last cake that I did is obviously not in this picture...
Rose on Top
Shaky hands and no turn table make for wobbly, uneven lines (see green lines). The drop strings turned out nice and the rose was trial and error...a petal here, a petal there...
Rose on Top
Overall, a nice little cake.
Rose On Top
This one was my favorite! Lots of ruffles. Very dainty and pretty. Perfect for Valentine's Day.
Used a small leaf tip for the green and a petal/rose tip for the pink ruffles.
Project # 26 - King Cake
Project # 25 - First BIG Cake
Here it is in all its glory (or lack there of)...
Leaves and a Rose
First came the rose. Next came a couple of leaves. Then there was some cursing. And lastly came the leafy "ground cover" effect...
Not bad work for only having done these like twice before...
I was demonstrating how the cake stand wobbled when my mom exclaimed, "OH HONEY, A BUNCH JUST FELL OFF THE BACK OF THE CAKE!!!" To my dismay, I turned the cake and a couple of the drop strings had fallen off. I made the best of the situation. I didn't have any yellow icing left.
Lesson learned...don't shake the cake stand!
Project # 24 - Birthdays
Last Minute Cake
Vader appears to be standing in a huge pile of something...
I spent about five minutes decorating this cake, so I figured it turned out okay for the amount of time that went into it. I'm such a bad Aunt!
I thought it would look cool to add some yellow sugar to the sides...alas, it didn't work out like I had planned.
This is supposed to be a furry monster
Disagreement with the Icing Tip
This icing tip and I seem to have an ongoing disagreement. I think it should be easy and it persists in being difficult.
Red eyes and all...
Project # 23 - Christmas Cake
Project # 22 - Gretchen's Cake
How cool is that!
As you can tell from the top view, the drop strings on the top don't show up very well.
This little cakes leans in curiously to check out the funny camera taking its picture...
Extreme close up!
Whew, that's better.
The inside of this cake had the tie-dye effect in green and orange. You can get an idea of what it will look like, but it looks much, much cooler when you cut into the cake for real.
The drop strings show up better here than in the top view.
I wonder if it would have looked better with orange drop strings on the top part instead of green?
Okay, so I took a lot of pictures this time!
well, until I get a picture of the cake once they cut into it.

Project # 18 - Thanksgiving
with cotton candy buttercream. Was very good but I think that I like the first try with the blue raspberry cake better. Couldn't taste the cotton-candyness as much this time.
Well, I tried...
When doing drop strings I think it is important to measure, measure, measure...
The smaller tier turned out really short and domed. I didn't have the heart to cut it down. Not the most symmetrical cake I've ever made, but oh well.
Sure tasted good, though.
top shot of first cake
I tried to be a little more artistic with this one (in hopes that people would miss how horrible the shape of the top cake was).
it worked, kind of, right?
Good from Top
Sure looked good from a top view, though.
Project # 17 - Gage's Birthday
Who would think that a white cake is under all that chocolate icing? (Except perhaps for the person who noticed the cake crumbles on the foil)
Had to add the Oreos. Turned out well, I think.
the cake was moving, I swear!

Project # 16 - TUMC Time and Talent Auction Cakes
Orange Cake with Orange Butter Cream Icing
No, none of it is flavored chocolate...
Basket with Flowers
I thought I would try doing a fall basket with flowers. I was concerned that the brown on the flowers would make them look like they were wilting, but I think it turned out okay.
This was done the same way as the hydrangea cake...
Chocolate Fudge Cake with Mint Oreo/Chocolate Butter Cream
So, lessons learned...put the crumbles on BEFORE you put the finishing edges on...don't put crumbles where you want to put more icing because the icing won't stick...
I opted to leave part of the bottom of the cake without icing because the cake had such a nice rich color all on its own.
The mint Oreos gave this cake a nice subtle minty flavor without being overwhelming.

Project # 10 - Cake Balls/Pops
These were chocolate with white coating. Pretty dang yummy!
My Cupcake Pops
This is my first attempt at making cupcake pops. There was a learning curve, so the first few looked pretty bad. I'm sure they will look much better next time. They got rave reviews at my niece's choir practice.
These were supposed to be the cake for Skye's cake, however, the top part of the cake cooked really quickly and the bottom of the cake cooked really slowly. It was aweful and crispy. So, in the interest no wasting the cake, I used a mixer to crumble the cake up and made cupcake bites.
My Cake Balls
I thought these turned out really well for my first try.
Are these not the coolest things ever!!!
I finally made some of these myself and will get pictures posted as soon as I remember to get the pictures off my camera!
Cake Ball Example
NOT ones I have made
Project # 9 - Orange Cupcakes (a.k.a Crackcakes)
This was my first try at this flower pattern and I thought it turned out really well. I did it on mini and classic cupcakes (both cake and icing flavored orange). And the best part was that they tasted as good as they looked.
Project # 8 - Melanie's Cake (Tie-Dye)
Starting at the bottom
After having done the first one, I decided that it was best to start decorating at the bottom of the cake...
I was a bit unhappy that you could still see part of the cake, but since it was pretty uniform, it was okay.
Simplified from the first version, upon request
Sweet and simple (and very bright)
Inside of Cake
I was pleased with the way the inside of the cake looked. Very tie-dyed, which was the intention...so that's good!
I decided to try doing some drop strings and think that they worked out pretty well.
More drop strings.
Colors weren't quite so bright in person. This picture makes my eyes hurt!
This is the little 4 inch cake that I did using left over icing from other projects. I figured that my niece and nephew would enjoy having their own miniature cakes to maul at my birthday party. I experimented with the basket weave technique and amazed at how well it turned out.
Another shot of Andrea's cake.
This was the top of one of the smaller cakes that I had cut off to make it flat. Sadly, we decided not to let her eat the cake because we were going out to eat after the party and didn't want to have to clean her up.
Another shot of Reegan's cake.
I was in a hurry when I took the pictures, so some of them turned out a little fuzzy. This was my nephew's cake. I was trying to use up all of the icing that I had left, so I iced the cake smooth (kind of) with the blue icing and then used up at much of the left over icing as possible. I thought it turned out really nice, especially the coloring on the leaves, which you can see in the other pictures.
A more clear shot of Will's Cake
You can see the coloring on the leaves in this picture. I don't think i could have gotten it to turn out better if I had actually tried to get the icing to work like that! This was pure accident.
Project # 7 - Penguin Cake
This was meant to be a nice thick, clean coat of icing, but I ran out of icing and didn't feel like making more. I ended up leaving it like this because it didn't look too bad.
Here the main cake has been topped with the top of a giant cupcake, but not iced yet.
I used a 1M swirl to go the iceberg with white buttercream.
The water is piping gel tinted blue and then put on with a spatula.
Top view of water
...well, as I said, it's a top view of the water.
Adding/Icing the Penguin
Here you can see where I've started icing the penguin. This is a mini bear mold with it's ears cut off. the ears are used as the feet for the penguin. I also cut off the legs that were on the sides so that the icing would be more rounded in that area.
I decided to try writing Happy Birthday on the cake. Results were not what I would have liked, but didn't look absolutely terrible. The icing was too thick and at this point it was like 11:00 at night and I was ready for bed.
From the top...
Close-Up of Horrid Lettering
What can I say, it was my first time writing on a cake. I wasn't happy with it, but it was too much trouble to change it...
I told myself that the lettering looked like the water was breaking it up and pushing it around on the waves and THAT was why it looked the way it did. Everyone went along with that point of view, whether they agreed or just thought it best to say they agreed even though they didn't.
This guy is only about five inches tall, and yes, I did him in grey on purpose. It took me WAY longer than it should have due to some really stiff icing and a way too small icing tip. I'm sure he will go much quicker the next time I do him. I thought he turned out really cute, though!
The Next Inspiration...
So, this is NOT a cake I have made, but it is one that I plan on trying. I think it is just about the cutest thing ever!!! I can't wait to see how it turns out!
This is my first trial on making a buttercream penguin. I obviously didn't take the time to get the colors right and used some left over icing that I had in the fridge. I thought it turned out rather well for my first attempt.
Project # 6 - Giant Hostess Cupcake
Not my cake...
This is NOT a picture of my actual cake. I completely forgot to take a picture of the cake I made. This is just a picture I got off the internet so I would mark that I had actually made the cake at this point!
Project # 5 - Hydrangea Cake
Hydrangea Top View
I used a 104 (I think) for the flowers and the yellow centers were done with a 2 tip. Each flower has four petal and they are all layered on so that the cake doesn't show through.
Hydrangea Side View
I didn't like the green color that I mixed up so I wanted to cover most of it up with the purple. I think it turned out looking pretty good.
Project # 4 - Trial Recipe
I used the 1M tip again for the top and the 18 (I think) for the bottom decorations.
I did a much better job this time with the 1M tip. No gaps in the icing!
Project # 3 - Janet's Birthday Cake
Janice displays Janet's Cake...
I'm sure she will yell at me for using a picture with her in it, but it is the only picture I have of the cake.
Project # 2 - Another 1st Birthday Cake
Not the Best Picture
So, totally NOT the best picture of this cake, but it will do, I guess.
A little Better
Didn't take any pictures of the cake and had to pull some stills from my video of that party...
Project # 1 - First Birthday Cake
Yes, I know...the one is backwards. What can I say? I wasn't paying attention when I took the picture. This cake is kind of short because I hadn't figured out how to divide the cake mix up correctly yet. The pan is supposed to hold one and a half cake mixes and I only used one box of cake mix.
She's not sure what to think at this point, but she ends up doing a pretty good job of tearing it apart.
See, she figured out what she was supposed to do with the cake. She was a bit unconventional about it, but still got the job done.
