On June 30th Lukie turned 3.  Happy and sad at the same time, he is getting to be a big boy!  We had cake for him and sang happy birthday, and he picked his favorite dinner (nachos).

 

June was a great month, very busy and great.  We went to Michele's Birthday Party, Ava's Spring recital, Arrshia's Birthday Party at the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum, Laura's wedding lunch with Grandma, Keira's Birthday party at the Novi Sports Park, Laura's Bachelorette Party, Swimming at Aunt Mary and Uncle Mark's, Katie vision and hearing screens for Kindergarten, Camping at Otsego Lake with Aunt Aimee, Uncle Darin, Ally, and Joey -- whew!!!

We started the month out strong with an awesome trip to Greenfield Village to see Thomas the Tank Engine.  The kids absolutely loved it!!  The weather was awesome - the only way it could have been better would have been if Greenfield Village was open longer!  Our good friends Damon & Kris invited us (along with their kids Grace and Carter) and we really appreciated it.  Katie and Luke keep asking when we can go back again.

 

May had a lot of showers!  Laura's wedding and Becky's baby shower.  The kids loved the parties.

January started the year continuing our whirlwind of illnesses that we pass around the family.  It finally let up in the middle of February and we have all been healthy since.  It has been wonderful!!!

My step-dad, Peter, died from complications related to his cancer on January 28th.  That was tough, it is hard to watch someone fight through all the chemo and radiation, and then die anyway so shortly after finishing treatment.  At least now his suffering is over, hopefully my Mom's will be someday soon too.

This Spring has been a whirlwind of dance classes, trips to the mall to play, and lots of inside time.  It has been such a cold and snowy late winter/early spring.  

We are so happy with our daycare/preschool, the kids are doing great, they get to go outside every day for a little while (except when it is bitterly cold, the kids have a much greater tolerance for cold than most adults do).  I am so nervous about Katie moving onto Kindergarten!  I have been making myself sick worrying about it and it is still 7 months away!!!  She is so smart and confident, deep down I know she will be fine.  I guess it is the milestone that has me so bummed. 

We went down to my Dad's in Kentucky again for Easter.  This was the rainiest year ever down there!  The coast guard was coming in with their flood rafts as we were leaving.  It has been a horrible time this spring all along the Mississippi.  We stayed inside for most of the trip, kind of a bummer.  At least a tornado didn't actually hit us.  Seemed close a couple of times though.

November 16th was Austin's first band concert (6th grade).  He plays the clarinet and he did a great job, we were very proud of him and hope he sticks with band!!

 

Thanksgiving was at Dan and Mary's new house, which is just as nice as their old one.  Although farther away from us : (   It was great to see Mom and Dad there!!

 

December was very busy, we had birthday parties the first two weekends (our cousin Gracie and Katie's friend from school Anna Emmanuel).  Lucas wasn't invited to Anna's party and it was cute how upset Katie was by that. 

Katie and Luke had a sleepover at Grace's house (with Aunt Linda) and they had so much fun.  They stayed over so that Dad and I could go to a Christmas party at Pat and Michele's house, which we go to every year.  It was nice to not have to rush home for a sitter, but strange to come home to an empty house.  Kids are very addicting : )

Christmas came and went in a blur, like always.  Kate and Luke got so many toys they didn't know what to do with them.  Lucas got a Batman Batcave (Papa) and action figures to go with it (Mom & Dad) and he loved them.  I think Katie's favorite was a tie between a Thomas the Train set (Grandma Vicki) and a Leapster Explorer (Mom and Dad). 

Our Centers' Christmas was at our house, and the DePotter Christmas was at Aunt Rose and Uncle Tom's house in Rochester Hills.  Lucky for us we had Grandpa with us at our house on Christmas Day!!! 

The year went by in a blur, I would not have thought that time could actually speed up more than it already had.  It has - life is a blur and we are trying to hang onto these times and enjoy the heck out of them.  Life has a way of sneaking right by you if you don't watch out.

At Christmas Katie was 4 1/2 years, 41 lbs, and 44" tall, and Lucas 2 1/2 years, 41.6 lbs, and 39" tall.

Katie started dance.  It's a combination ballet and tap beginners class and she is so cute in it.  They do 30 minutes of ballet, swap shoes and 15 minutes of tap.  She is adoreable in her little leotard and tights.  Lucas does a good job of being good while we wait for Katie!

 

Also noteworthy this month, Katie has her first filling.  They gave her nitrous gas and did not numb her and she was great.  I was holding her hand and she didn't even squeeze she was so relaxed.  They scent the gas now, her's smelled like orange and she got to keep the piece that touches your nose.  I was pretty proud of her, she is much braver than I was at her age.

 

We got home from New Mexico on the 2nd, the following weekend we attended Jessie's reheresal and wedding.  Katie was the cutest flower girl!  She did great, loved every minute of it.  Afterward she lamented, "Mommy, I can't wait a whole year - until I'm 5 year old - for Laura to get married!!!".  Nathan's stock has gone way up to in Katie's book.  He is now one of 3 "boys" allowed to attend her birthday party (Lucas and Daddy are the other two). 

 

Jessie was beautiful and the wedding was flawless.

 

The next weekend was Ava's 4th birthday party, the girls are getting so big.  Loved the Hello Kitty cake.

 

We also went to two Halloween parties, one at the Blind's for Brooke's 12th birthday and one at the Luhr's.  Both were fun, but we forgot to bring a camera both times.  Lucas and Katie wore indoor costumes to the Blind's (a princess and a cowboy) which were really cute.

September has come and gone and we didn't slow down.  I had some old-timey pictures taken of the kids, they came out pretty cute. 

 

We stayed home for Labor Day weekend, we were just exhausted from being constantly on the go all summer and the forecast for weather wasn't great, and traffic was terrible : (

 

We went to Jessie's Luncheon with Grandma DePotter, which was really fun. 

 

We went Halloween camping again at Bruin Lake with the Larson's (Kelly, Dave, Laken, and West), and also the Luhr's (Dave, Shannon, Ben, and Keira).  We had good weather, fun trick or treating and good company.  This year Larson friends Sean and Brody came also.  We love this event and look forward to next year.

 

The following week we flew out to New Mexico to visit Aunt Linda and Uncle Larry.  There place is very remote, but nice.  We want to go back next time during balloon festival (Albuquerque).  We went bowling, shopping, to Chuckie Cheese, to the lake, we had lots of fun.  The kids kept Uncle Larry busy with never-ending tractor and golf cart rides around the property.  They LOVED it!  The kids did great on all 4 segments of our very long flight.  If you ask Lukie how old he is, he now answers "Chuckie Cheese", he wants his next party there. Sorry dude, not likely....

Aside from the routine of what we did every weekend, it has been an amazing summer.  Lucas' speach is coming along nicely.  He runs, jumps, and is all boy.  He is the favorite in every class he goes into.  He hugs me and says, "Mommy I love you" out of the blue.  He is all heart.  Katie is doing great in preschool 3.  She can write her name and (maybe I am biased) seems to be really smart.  She has figured out how to handle Mike and I, Mike with humor, me with guilt.  I love to cuddle with her, with both of them actually.  And I don't object too much when she climbs into bed with us almost every night.  She is little and I want to enjoy her while she needs me.  I need to start keeping a journal of their funny quotes...even as I sit here they don't come to mind and I know I get them every day.  I love being a Mom and wouldn't change a thing.  If I were younger I'd have a couple more :

 

Spring Mill Pond at Island Lake really is a hidden gem.  The sand is a little muddy, not that the kids minded that.  We went with the Christensen's (Melissa, Keira, and Soren) as usual, we love hanging out with them.  Katie considers Keira to be her best friend.  Anyway, Melissa took us there for our first time and we loved it.  Not crowded, clean, close by bathroom, just beautiful.  We can't wait to go back.

 

For July 4th we went to Torch Lake with Aunt Aimee, Uncle Darin, Ally, Joey and much of Darin's family.  We had a good time until Luke got sick and we had to leave early.   That following weekend we went to Mark Jr.'s Graduation Party, enjoy State Mark!

 

Katie loved going to Jessie's wedding shower on July 17th.  She got to stand in front of the crowd with the wedding party and helped Jessie with her gifts.  She absolutely loved it.

 

We had a joint party for the kids on July 24th.  Katie had an elaborate princess cake and Lucas picked a Yo Gabba Gabba cake.  We had a great turnout again this year.

 

We went to Clear Lake again this year the last weekend in July, with our usual rainy dreary Clear Lake weather.  Luckily we got up there early on Friday and were able to enjoy the beach, and that we the only sunshine we had the whole weekend.  It was still nice to see everyone, a pretty pregnant Kelly and Matt, Becky and Brian, and Laura and Nathan.  In addition to the Dittenber's of course : )

 

The next weeekend (August 7th) we went to Lost Lake and camped behind the cabin.  Again the Dittenber's with with us as well as Mom and Dad DePotter.  We love going up with the parents, it's nice to get a couple days time with them.

 

The weekend of the 14th we went to a rodeo (a.k.a Day-Scott Birthday party at Maybury Stables, complete with pony rides).  The kids loved it again this year, and Katie got to ride Bella (Joker from last year has been replaced in Katie's heart).  Lucas would not ride, but did give one of the horses a hug.  It was very cute. 

 

That Sunday we went swimming at Mark and Mary's (thanks!), it was great!  Both kids went in and actually briefly swam without holding on to us.  It was shocking and definitely a first, our two usually prefer to hang out on the steps and just put their feet in.  No diving or slide -- not yet! 

 

The last weekend in August was Kelly's baby shower, which Lucas got to go to even though it was another "girls day".  Girls and babies according to Katie   : )

 

Lucas' 2 year stats:  38lbs, 4 oz; 36 3/4" tall, with a 21 1/4" noggin.  That puts him "greater than 97th percent) for all three categories.  He is actually off the chart for weight and head circumference.

Kate's 4 year stats:  40 lbs (82nd percentile), and 42 1/2" tall (93rd percentile).

 

On June 30th we had cake and celebrated Lucas' birthday at home, he loved it.  He got a little electric 4-wheeler and he loved it.  I wish I could have gotten a picture of his face when he saw it. 

 

On July 21st we had cake for Katie's 4th birthday.  She got a princess bike which was pretty much the only thing she asked for, and she asked for several months.  She loves it, but is a little afraid of it still even though it has training wheels.

 

We had a combo birthday party for both kids again this year, it was wonderful.  They both had a blast, we were surprised and delighted by all the friends and family that made it, even with a day/date change at the last minute (the weatherman should be fired).   We were overwhelmed with everyone's generosity again this year.  WE LOVE YOU ALL!!

June has been incredibly busy for us, every weekend we did something.

 

Aunt Linda and Grace came to stay with us for a few days while Mike was in Mexico on business.  Grace slept with Katie one night, then refused after that.  I didn't realize then that Gracie would only be the first, as of now Joe and Ava also refuse.  The issue is that she won't stop talking so they can actually fall asleep. It makes her sad that they don't want to sleep with her, not sad enough to quit talking though :)

 

On June 1st we went to the mall with the Christensen's to tell Keira "Happy 4th Birthday".  Katie loves Keira and Keira did not have a friend birthday party this year.

 

On June 8th Katie, Lukie and I went to the Detroit Zoo with Aunt Linda and Grace, Steph and Ava.  We had great weather and a fun time.  All the kids love the zoo and playing with each other.

 

On June 9th we went with Keira, Soren, and Melissa Christensen to check out the brand new splash pad at Heritage Park.  It was really nice, it just needs a little time to mature (shade and better / less muddy grass).   Loved it and definitely plan to go back.

 

On June 10th Katie, Lucas and I took Daddy to the Tiger's Game for fathers.  Daddy loves the Tiger's.  It is so cute when Lukie says, "Go Tigers"...it was extremely hot that day, not the best day for a ball game.  Daddy and Katie's Tiger is Miguel Cabrara, Lukie's Tiger is Justin Verlander, and Mommy's Tiger is Magglio Ordonez, or Maggs for short.

 

Last but not least, on June 30th we had cake to celebrate Lucas' actual 2nd birthday.  Happy Birthday Handsome Lukie-Bear!  We love you so much!!!!!

Mike and I went to Vegas with Damon and Kris Day-Scott, which was really fun.  The kids got 3 fun-filled days with Aunt Stephie and their cousins.  I'm not sure if they even missed us : (   but I know we missed them.

 

We went to the zoo two weeks in a row, once with Damon, Grace, and Carter then once just me, Lucas, and Katie.

 

Memorial Day weekend at Harrisville State Park on Lake Huron was wonderful.  We had terrific weather and were able to use the beach (although the water was freezing).  I've never seen it so nice this early in the year.  Looking forward to next year!

We spent Easter in Kentucky, as we've done for the last few years.  We had great weather and were able to play outside a lot.  Aunt Linda and Uncle Larry, as well as Little Larry, Lori, and Grace came in addition to the usual suspects (us and my sister's family).  We had a blast!

 

Katie gave up her night-time pull-ups starting on the 20th and was very proud of herself.  Thanks to daycare because I don't know if we ever would have gotten there without them.

 

April brought Lukie the Croup and Katie Hand, Foot, and Mouth -- fun fun fun.

 

We made it to Laken Larson's 3rd birthday party, which they had at the Rainbow Recreation Center which was really fun, Kelly always does great food/cake. 

March 2010 - We spent most of March recovering from various illnesses, we have all been sick over and over.  It started around Thanksgiving, and as of this writing (June 3rd) is still not over. 

 

The good news is that Katie is officially potty-trained, and I can't tell you how good that news is!!!

 

We did manage to make it to the Gymnastics drop-in at Conrads with the Larson's and Christensen's, which was fun.   Other than that Katie and Lukie both had ear infections - lovely!

Parents 60th anniversary, the actual anniversary was January 28th, we celebrated on January 24th.  Imagine!  60 years! 

 

Mike and Kevin's 39th Birthday.  They have celebrated together every year for the last 20 years, literally. 

November 1st was the 7 year anniversary of mine and Mike's first date...love it!  I can't believe we've been together for 7 years already...the time is flying by.

 

Lucas was full on walking at the beginning of November, so 16 months old.  Not so bad, Katie walked at 14 months and she was normal sized! 

 

November was so unseasonably warm!  We were outside flying kites and going to the Detroit Zoo without coats early in the month, that is unheard of in Michigan!  But awesome!  I took the week of Thanksgiving off for vacation, which was good because that week was the start of our family sick season...first Lucas, then Katie, then me, with some minor relapes in between.  We think Lucas had the H1N1, but it is unconfirmed.  A couple weeks later he had a stomach virus, which he passed to me so I could get sick during my best friend Sheri's bachelorette party (no not before, I got sick during the party - it was aweful).  Mike obviously has a superior immune system because he didn't get sick at all, the rest of us were sick on and off all the way from Thanksgiving until after Christmas.  We also missed Gracie's 3rd birthday which we were bummed about due to illness.

 

Sheri got married on December 18th, I spent quite a bit of time stressing about that!  It ended up being a blast and an awesome start to Christmas break. 

 

Dad came to visit for Christmas, arriving safely which was a big improvement over last year.

 

Lucas had his 18 month well baby appointment on December 28th.  He was 35.6 lbs, 35 1/4 inches tall, and his head still measured 21"...finally it has stopped growing so fast!

 

Mike and I took the kids to the movies to see their first in theater movie on New Year's Eve.  We saw The Princess and the Frog, and they both did well.  They got figety about half way through it, but not bad enough that we had to leave.  And Katie wants to go again.  Mike made me a wonderful crab leg dinner and Katie got up to toast the New Year with us at midnight (unplanned, she got up on her own)...it was a wonderful end to 2009!  Come on 2010 -- we are ready!

 

Well, Lukie could tell how much Mike would love it and started climing up on the hearth this month (10/11/09).

 

On Friday, October 2nd, Lucas went in for his 15 month well baby appoint.  He was 32 lbs, 15 oz, 34" tall, and his head was 21" around.  That night we went to Uncle Dan and Aunt Mary's house to visit, because Dana and Ryan were in town.  We had a fun night eating pizza and playing the lego jumping game.  Katie was a pro!

 

On 10/3/09 we went to Soren's birthday party (happy 1st birthday Soren)!  Ava came over and went to the party with Katie and I.  On 10/10 we went to Ava's 3rd birthday party (happy 3rd birthday Ava).  She was so cute, except when she cried during an excellent rendition of "Happy Birthday".

 

On the 14th Aunt Linda and Grace came to visit us, it was an afternoon of princess dress up and we had a lot of fun.  We went to the mall with Kelly, Laken, and West Larson on the 16th and again on the 23rd.

 

The 17th was special because we did breast cancer walk (American Cancer Society, Making Strides against Breast Cancer) at a park in Ann Arbor.  This was Laura's first event with the ACS, and it was a huge success!  It was pretty cold in the morning and Aunt Mary Renee, Katie, Lukie and I got an extra mile in walking from our car to the start point : (   It was really fun having Aunt Mary ride with us so we could spend some time with her : )   Katie is too young to understand about charity, but we did talk to her about the walk.

 

On the 24th we had an awesome time hanging out at the Day-Scott's and going to the Halloween event at Greenfield Village.  Trick or Treating at Greenfield Village is a lot of fun, and the rain held out so that's all we could ask for!  Katie was a monkey, and Lukie was a giraffe.  He was a lion at our Bruin Lake Halloween event, but that costume would not fit over a coat.

 

On the 31st we went to Brooke Blind's 11th birthday party, it was a great time (as always).  The kids were troopers making it until 11 pm!

This month Lucas got two more molars (both uppers), and started pulling up on the furniture and some toys (9/11).  Yeah Lukie!!!!

 

We celebrated Austin's 10th birthday a little late at Red Robin.  The kids all love Red Robin.  I can't remember why we didn't celebrate it on time, this is the first year I can remember him not having a party.  I think he had a small friends only gathering instead.

 

We spent Labor Day Weekend at Lost Lake Woods Club with Aimee, Darin, Ally, & Joey (9/4 - 9/6).  We slept in the cabin, and the Dittenber's slept in the camper behind the cabin.  It was not really hot but was warm enough for some beach time.  The kids were both still recovering from the Croup so we took it easy, going for walks and hanging out by the campfire. 

 

On Sunday, we had dinner at Rob & Jayne's with Mom & Dad DePotter (9/7/09).  Laura and Sarah were there too, Dad looked great and we had a fun time. 

 

Katie, Ava, and Grace tore it up at Jeff & Candy's Wedding (9/12/09).  I don't have any pictures because we forgot the camera, but it was really nice and we had a lot of fun.

 

Mike, Katie, Luke and I went to Kensington Farm on Sunday (9/13/09).  It is not really a petting zoo, but does have mostly farm animals.  We watched them unhook the horses for the day and it was pretty neat to see them up close.  Katie would not pet the horses, and complained that they were not "Joker" her horse from her first (and only) pony ride at Maybury.

 

We went to Spicer's Orchard with Damon, Kris, Grace, & Carter (9/20/09). We had a good time although I don't think I'd go back.  They charge you to get in then charge more for most of their attractions.  The donuts and cider (also the company) was good and we had a lot of fun.  The kids all loved the tube slide!  Too bad we didn't see the nails that ripped both girls pants to shreds before it was too late... 

 

The last weekend of the month we went Halloween Camping at Bruin Lake State Park with the Luhrs', Larsons', extended Larsons', and us (9/25 - 9/27).  This is SO much fun, we can't wait to do it again next year.  We had three campsites all right together, with lots of kids, trick or treating, bike riding, eating, and fun! 

 

It was a great and very busy month! 

August was an exciting month...Katie had her first dentist appointment (8/5), at which she did great!  She has become and expert flosser since her appointment, and enjoys throwing all the sugar bugs in the garbage every night before bed.  Other than some minor misalignment due to the pacie, which the dentist feels will correct on it's own, she got a clean bill of health, and some fun trinkets.  If anyone needs a good pediatric dentist, I can hook you up.

 

On the 8th we finally got to see Kelly and Matt's new house, which is really nice.  We had a great time hanging out with the fam.

 

On the 14th we took the kids to see The Wiggles, which they really enjoyed.  We expected Katie to like it, but Lukie liked it even more I think.  He danced in his chair the whole time, he especially liked when they dimmed the lights and put a strobe light on.

 

On the 15th Lukie officially started crawling (13 1/2 months).  Scooting is still his preferred method of getting around, but he can crawl and does mostly on carpet.

 

We went camping in the Upper Pennisula from the 19th - 23rd.  The UP is beautiful as is the beach at Whitefish Bay.  We went to Tahquamenon Falls, but only made it to the lower falls, the trail to the upper falls is not stroller friendly.  Aimee, Darin, Ally, and Joe made the hike though, braving the rain.  This had the makings of a great trip, if only the weather had cooperated.  We had a good time, but it could have been better : )

 

We finished up the month with two molars for Lucas, the lower right and upper right popped through just a few days apart, I noticed the lower one on the 26th and then it was still partially covered with gum.  Two molars and a case of the of Croup, which Luke was only to happy to pass to Katie for Labor Day weekend.  Katie had it worse than Lucas, which I hear is typical (for the 2nd infected to get it worse than the first that is). 

 

Labor Day weekend was beautiful at Lost Lake.  We stayed in the cabin with Aimee, Darin, Ally, Joey, and Ben.  We got to go to the Harrisville fair again, it has gotten a little smaller than last year.  We went to the beach and for some walks.  The campfires were excellent this trip.

For July 4th we went up to Lost Lake with Dan, Mary, and Aimee.  We had nice, sunny weather, but it was not super warm. 

 

On July 10th Katie and Luke went in for their 1 yr / 3 yr well baby appointments.  Both are very healthy, we are so lucky.  Lukie is greater than 97 percentile for everything at 31 lbs 1oz, 31 7/8" long, and 20 1/2" head circumference.  Katie is greater than 97% for height at 39 1/2", and 95% for weight at 35.6 lbs.

 

We had a big combo birthday party blowout on the 11th.  It was great, the weather cleared up around 1 for the party to start at 3pm.  It was really hot and humid, but that is better than cold and rainy.  We had a better turnout than we had even hoped for, with lots of support from our friends and family. 

 

The 18th was a great day, Jenny and Adam's wedding!  We had so much fun!  Then on the 19th we went to Grace and Carter's birthday party (3yrs and 1 yr) at Maybury stables, where Katie got her first pony ride on a white-ish horse named "Joker".  It was a busy, but very fun filled weekend.

 

Katie turned 3 on the 21st, and we had cake and ice-cream here at home for her.  She had us singing the Happy Birthday song constantly for the week before and the week after.  It was her favorite part of turning 3.  Her least favorite part was the arrival of the pacie fairy, to whom she traded her basket full of pacie's for a new Dora bike with training wheels.  She ended up regreting that trade -- but all is well now, we are pacie free and sleeping peacefully again.  Lucas will not be keeping his until his 3rd birthday, we learned a lesson!

 

We went to Clear Lake with Aimee, Darin, Ally and Joey the weekend of the 23rd.  The weather was funny, it was bright and sunny one minute and rainy the next.  We had enough sun to make the weekend worthwhile though, we had a good time.  Most of the rain came at nighttime and the sandy campsites drained quickly.

 

On the 30th we took the kids on a picnic at Heritage Park and listened to some music in the park, they really enjoy picnicing.  On the 31st we went Raspberry picking in Ypsilanti, they should have weighed Katie on the way in and out, she must have ate a quart on site. 

 

July was a fun month, we did a lot and had a great time!

This summer has been crazy because it's been so busy.  In June we celebrated Luke's 1st birthday (June 30th)!!!  Just us at home with a cake that Mike and Katie baked for Lucas.  He is not really into getting messy with it, but did like the taste of the frosting. 

 

We also went to the zoo with Kris, Grace, and Carter Day-Scott (June 10th), we went to Katie's friend Keira's 3rd birthday party (June 13th), we met up with our friends at the mall for playtime (Kris, Grace, Carter, Melissa, Keira, and Soren) on June 3rd.

 

We had an awesome time on vacation with Aimee, Darin, Ally, and Joey (and Darin's family).  We spent a long weekend with them at the Silver Lake Sanddunes (they rented a house, and had room for us that first weekend).  We took a pontoon boat ride over to the dunes, and Katie, Ally, and Joey LOVED playing on the dunes.  We stopped at a really steep part and they could all, even Katie scamper right up it with no problems.  Beach by day, campfire by night, it was a great trip. 

 

On our Silver Lake trip Lukie started to "phantom scoot", not perceptible to the human eye, he managed to move several feet in just a few seconds.  A week or so later he was full on scooting, it is his preferred method of getting around.  I think the hard wood is too hard on his knees at our house.  We discovered that Lukie is not so much a fan of swimming, just like his sister, although they both did get in for a little bit without screaming.

 

On the way home from Silver Lake we went to the Binder Park Zoo.  They have an amazing raised bridge walkway where you can observe the animals in their natural habitat.  It was nice, but if the animals were out of sight that was just it, and it wasn't always easy to tell what you were looking at.  The Giraffe feeding deck was awesome!  More fun and more economical than feeding the Giraffe at the Detroit Zoo.  You could actually stand there and pet the Giraffe, they we quite tame.

 

Also in June Mike and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary, can't believe it's already been 5 years!

 

April and May have been a whirlwind of trips and illnesses. 

Lucas was Baptized on April 19th, we had awesome support from friends and family for his big day, we love our family and feel very blessed.  

 

The last weekend in April Uncle Dan, Aunt Mary, and Uncle Mark helped Mike put Katie's new swingset together.  It was a bigger job than they anticipated, but it turned out perfect!  On Sunday Aimee Louise and Aunt Mary Renee (a.k.a. The Other Aunt Mary) made guest appearances, which made Katie very happy.  Thanks for the M&M's and the Monkey Aunt Mary! It was very nice of you to think of us on your vacation to Vegas.  

 

The first weekend in May was packed, we went to Jenny's wedding shower that Saturday (5/2/09) which was beautiful, the food was delicious and Katie and I had a great time.  We missed Aunt Linda though : (   On Sunday we went to Joey's 1st Communion, he looked very handsome and did a great job in the ceremony.

 

Lukie got his first haircut (a trim, by me) on April 6th, he is not as follically challenged as Katie was at this age.

 

We spent my birthday (April 7th) in he ER with Katie, fortunately she was well enough by that Friday that we didn't have to cancel our trip to visit my Dad for Easter in Grand Rivers, KY (near Lake Barclay).  We caught up with Aunt Stephie, Uncle Kyle, Austin, Jojo, and Ava there and had a nice and fun trip. 

 

Later in the month we went to the Zoo with Melissa, Keira and Soren in one trip.  Then again with Aunt Steph, Austin, Jojo, and Ava in a second trip. Both times we had great weather and it as a lot of fun.  The first time we fed the Giraffe, I had to do it because Katie wouldn't get close enough for even the foot long giraffe tongue to reach the cookie. 

 

Mike left us for Memorial Day (again) and headed up to the UP with his buddies.  The kids and I managed to spend lots of money while he was gone.

 

Then we closed the month with toddler yoga with Melissa, Keira, and Soren.  You can see from the pictures Katie and Keira loved it.  It's been crazy!!

 

This month Lukie turned 9 months.  He weighs 26 lbs. 14 oz (he is huge!), is 31" long, and has a 20" noggin.  He is off the chart in every measurement.  The Doctor says he is very healthy and for that we are very blessed.

 

On the 30th of this month Katie and Lukie started daycare.  Our two plus my sister's three kids turned out to be too much for her, so we put them in J. Tots daycare.  The first couple days were challenging but both kids seem to be doing well now.  It has only been a week so I'll keep you posted.  Katie does love playing with the other kids and all the projects they keep her doing all day long. 

 

On March 8th we went to visit Grandma and Grandpa DePotter.  An extra pleasant surprise was that Tom and Rose were coming over also so we got to visit with them.  Both kids latched right onto Rose!  We had a great visit.

 

We saw Melissa, Keira, and Soren three times this month.  We met them at the mall for a short playtime, they came over to our house for a few hours one afternoon, and we stopped by to pick something up and ended up staying for an hour.  We enjoy hanging out with them.

 

On March 22nd we had a great visit with Damon, Kris, Grace and Carter.  Katie and Grace had a blast playing together.  Carter is already walking around furniture and is the definition of a "wiggle-worm".  We went to Shiawiasse Park and then they came over to our house (it was colder at the park than anticipated). 

Today is the day Lukie stops wearing his helmet.  It has been 6 1/2 weeks since he got it, and he has worn it 23 hours a day every day.  Now it is just too small and is making him uncomfortable.  We are glad it is over and in retrospect it went by pretty fast.  His noggin looks great now.

 

February was a fun month, Dad came to visit and it was great to see him.  He bonded with Katie and Lukie without much of a problem, he is still working on Ava.  She was just warming up when he left - she likes to make her Papa work for it!

 

Lucas is up to 27.4 lbs now, he is so heavy it is hard to carry him up and down the stairs.

 

In February, Mike had a huge snowball fight with Austin and Joe, they all came in soaking wet and exhausted.  We went to Parachute Fun at the Novi Library with Melissa, Keira, and Soren...they keep us in the loop with all the fun free stuff there is do to in the area, we catch up with them whenever we can.  Katie and Keira love each other.  Riley lives in our subdivision, we went to her birthday party at My Gym...Katie had a great time, but the pictures didn't come out great, the lighting wasn't so good and our camera is not very good with action shots.  We are going to have to do something about that.  I have a problem with stroller and cameras and Mike is no longer so supportive on those items.

 

 

 

January is wrapped up now, we just celebrated Mike and Kevin's 38th birthday last night at the Uptown Grill.  It was fun, but smokey and loud - makes me feel old!  Today Katie was singing "Happy Birthday" to Mike for the 900th time, and she included Kevin in lyrics - "Happy Birthday Daddy and Kevin..." it was cute.

 

Lukie has been wearing the helmet for 3 weeks now.  We are all getting used to it. It never bothered him, so I guess Mike and I are getting used to it.  Lukie is 7 months old now, and weighs 25 lbs.  Katie is holding steady at 32.5 lbs, but she is 38 1/4" tall.  She is so tall.

 

Lukie can roll from his stomach to his back when he wants to now, and he is saying "da da" constantly!  He is also getting very good with his hands, he can easily grab stuff, pick it up, and get it to his mouth.  He can also transer items from one hand to the other easily (think paci).  The time is flying by.

 

Aunt Linda has gone home again, we'll miss her.

I put up some pictures of January early because I know everyone wants to see Lukie in his helmet.  It looks uncomfortable I know, but it really isn't.  It is thin, and it doesn't seem to bother him at all.  He is still sleeping really well, and in his own bed.  He doesn't wake up at night and he doesn't pull or mess with it during the day.  He wears it 23 hours a day, and it reeks when we take it off to wash his hair.  He has to get his hair washed every day because it makes his head sweat a lot and smell pretty bad.  Hopefully he will only have to wear it for 3 months and it'll be gone by Easter.  Katie thinks Lucas looks cute in "him's hat".

 

Also noteworthy, Luke's bottom two teeth are through.  They came in together like it was a race to get out!  We noticed them last week, so just a week past his 6 month birthday.  He is also doing well with sitting, he can sit for a little bit by himself and is close to being an "unsupported sitter".

 

I am backfilling some old months -- so check back to see what you missed last summer.  I am going to go back to Lukie's birth and call it good, so I am almost caught up.
