This Website

Welcome to "Soaring Flight Images".  This site features a few glimpses of recent sailplane adventures at our soaring club.  (Nevada Soaring Association and Air Sailing - see "Bookmarks" section to the left, to navigate to these pages).  By all accounts this website is a very limited glimpse into our world of soaring so you are officially invited to join us to see for yourself.

As club members, we have a share in seven sailplanes, three runways, two tow planes, an expansive clubhouse, hangar facilities, world class lift and wide open areas in which to fly - and most importantly - the camaraderie of a friendly and well experienced group of fellow aviators.  Our club resides at our private glider port, NV23.  Larger and more active than many public use general aviation airports, we cater to fellow club members and soaring exclusively.  Many sailplanes are based at Air Sailing Gliderport, as a number of club members have purchased their own private, high performance sailplanes.

All rights are reserved for images and video content on this site, but feel free to use images for non commercial and simple personal enjoyment.  After all, this website is here to share the passion that goes along with soaring, and to motivate you to fly with us.  Fly safe, have a massive amount of fun, and we'll see you at Air Sailing Gliderport!

2010 Air Sailing Season Trailer
Want to fly?  Want to fly now?  It's about time.  2010 is here and the soaring season is nearly upon us in full swing.  Dust off the logbooks, the flying knowledge, the soaring books and regs - you'll need to be ready to hit the ground running when the weather, sailplanes, friends and lift all converge into a great day at Air Sailing.

This short 3 minute trailer has a few clips from last season set to Pearl Jam's "Fixer" tune.  I hope you are ready to fly - 'cause I need a tow to the Dog Skins ;)  "...stand by for rudders"

TS-11 "ISKRA" Type Rating
At Stead Airport (4SD), a friend get's his second jet warbird type rating, this time in a TS-11 Iskra Jet.

NSA's new (to us) L-33 Solo
A "Quick and Dirty" expose on our newest aircraft, a LET Blanik L-33 Solo glider.  We start with bringing the parts out of the trailer, assembly, cockpit familiarization and then first flight by Chukar.  Unfortunately I was in the middle of an FAA checkride and did not get footage of Stoney, Blackhawk, Coot and Skimmer also flying the L-33.  Thanks to Aaron Derringer for filming Chukar's landing as I was "unavailable" for that!  Next in the film is my turn to get a checkout by Skimmer, and go for a high tow followed by a pattern tow.

Flying Niner Hotel Again
A short subject "oddity" clip of our old 9H (SGS 1-26E) in an otherwise unremarkable fall morning.  9H shows signs of wear these days but she has an interesting place in history as one of several hundred SGS 1-26's made in the USA during the golden age of soaring that still fly actively today.  Serial Number 669 has the honor of being the first aircraft many have flown where the principle single seat model has no two place trainer equivalent.  Many move on to the SGS 1-36 and, then again, to a high performance composite single place aircraft.  However, there is something special about 9H; a piece of history and a classic with character, waiting to be flown (and restored in a future club project).  That's why we keep coming back to fly 9H, even if it's been a while, and even if she needs some cosmetics.  To see a rendition of the proposed new scheme in a possible restoration project for 9H, see the "On the Flightline" gallery.
