What's New on the Avenue...

Long time, no update...

I'm finally getting around to updating this site, mostly for posterity's sake since everyone who would see these photos has already seen the progress, but I feel like it needs to be documented anyway. Front yard got a face lift this summer and the stairwell and upstairs should have new photos up as well.

Moving On Up!

Well, no, we're not up there yet, but much progress has been made toward our eventual move into our own [master] bedroom on the second floor.

Ty and John have been painstakingly installing insulation upstairs almost every Saturday since February thru May (taking a break in April for obvious reasons). It's tedious work, but they're nearing the end at last. Drywall should be up -- we hope -- sometime in July.

Go check out the "Upstairs" page from the drop-down menu above to see photos of the work in progress.

Home At Last

Only six months after purchasing our new home, as of November 20, 2008, we have finally, officially moved into it. It's a great feeling. And we love it here. The list of things left to do to the house is still a mile long, but we're over the hump now. The rest is icing on the cake. Obviously, the upstairs will become priority #1 in the new year, but for right now, we're just enjoying what we have and are having fun settling into the neighborhood.

Lights, Paint, Action!

The house is really looking like a house these days. Color on the walls, lights everywhere, even a half-complete kitchen! It's really starting to get there, and we're getting excited to finish up the last necessary steps prior to move-in (the date for which is still, unfortunately, up in the air). Serious progress has been made, now we've got to focus on getting our water heater hooked up, our floors in, the kitchen appliances installed, and the bathroom tiled and functional. Once that's all done, we'll really be in business!

Check out the "Lights + Paint" and "Kitchen" tabs on the navigation bar above to see new photos.

Walls! We have walls!

Yes, the light at the end of the tunnel has finally appeared. The walls on the main floor are insulated and drywall is going up. They should be finished and ready for paint by the end of the week. Exciting stuff, people! Go check out the pics by clicking on the "Walls" tab above.

Yes, we've been slow to update...

...but don't take it to mean we're falling apart (not quite yet, at least)--things are definitely progressing. Just nothing very fun to show yet.

We've made great strides in getting the electrical and plumbing updated, and we've decided to update the main bathroom now too, so that was demo'd as well. We also have our flooring and most of our light fixtures and appliances either bought or on order and will be finalizing our kitchen order this week. The oil tank has been decommissioned, the radon fan is set up in the basement, and the new furnace is coming together.

At the moment, we're waiting for the inspectors to give us the go-ahead on the plumbing and electrical so we can start closing up the walls and get busy with the fun stuff. Like drywall! So stay tuned...

Welcome

Here, you will find photographic documentation of our adventures in home restoration as we set out to renovate our newly-purchased, hundred-year-old Northeast Portland bungalow.

Hello to all. The place looks fabulous. The backsplash is stunning. Can't wait to see it in person. Also glad to hear you are settling in before the holidays. I have really enjoyed the story and photos of your rehab. Happy holidays and congratulations!

Looks great!  Can't wait to see the finished pictures, of all the rooms.  You must be so proud of the work that you have done.  But I hate to tell you that a house is never finished!

I think it is so attractive.  You have both done a great job in your color and material choices.  Now, of course, Mike and I are looking at our kitchen cabinets and going hmm.  Well, We'll have to deal with what we have and just change out the pulls thanks to your great taste.  Looking forward to each additional change, it's really taking shape.
