Welcome to Terry's Alfa site

My passion for Alfa Romeos started in the 60's and has not let up yet.  Feel free to peruse pictures of past and present projects, Alfa parts and restoration parts I have made.

This site documents this passion in my restoration efforts, focusing on my present project: restoring a 1965 Giulia Spider Veloce, AR390381.  Why this particular car?  Here's the story...

While stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1966, I bought a 1300 Junior with a fellow Army Lieutenant.  I fell in love with Alfas through that car.  I sold my interest in it when I was transferred to Viet Nam.  The thought of owning another Alfa sustained me while I was there.  When I got back "to the world" in April, 1969, I looked for another Alfa.  I found one not far from my home in San Jose, California, and bought a red 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce.  I was in love!  She was my constant companion on the winding roads of Northern California. 

I was also in trouble.  I got eight speeding tickets in eight months and the State of California took my license away for five months!  I ended up trading her in on a Datsun pickup truck and driving back to Massachusetts to care for my ailing grandparents in 1971.  My Alfa dreams on hold, I married in 1972, had a family and career, and moved to Longmeadow, Massachusetts, in 1977.

Toward the end of my career with the phone company, I got the opportunity to purchase a 1979 Spider Veloce and restored it with my brother in Prescott, Arizona.  That car now resides at my second home in Viera, Florida.  In the meantime, I have purchased, restored and sold a 1974 GTV and a 1977 Spider Veloce.  These efforts were taken to placate my desire for a '65 Veloce and my search continued.

I finally located my elusive dream car in Ohio and, after about four years of negotiation, bought her and trailered her back to Massachusetts.  My retirement, due to an offer I could not refuse, afforded me the time and inclination to undertake its restoration.  I will attempt to document this effort in narrative and photos here.

Move to Florida

We put our house on the market just after Christmas and drove to Florida to visit my wife's parenta.  We sold our house in Massachusetts in a record 29 days during the worst snowfall, lowest temperatures, poor economy, and depressed real estate market anyone can remember.  We rushed back to pack up and move to Melbourne, Florida.  As of April 1, 2011, we are here and settling in.  My email address has changed to redrush@cfl.rr.com.  I have suspended much of my parts manufacturing until I can get set up again.
