I was so honored to accompany my dear friend Susan to DC last month for Police Week. What a tribute to our nation's fallen officers. Susan's husband Sgt. Mike King of the University City Police Department, in , was shot and killed on Halloween night while on patrol on the .
I have never witnessed such a somber, yet uplifting ceremony and was profoundly touch, moved and inspired by the entire week of events. I was reminded over and over again by what I thought I already knew, count your blessings and make certain that each day the people who you love know the special place they have in your heart.
I try to make each day count for something and embrace each new opportunity or challenge as a gift from God. For he places in our path special people, some for a lifetime, and other for a short stop, but each was placed there for a profound reason.
Live your life to the fullest and love profoundly, live with enthusiasm, and honor the lives of those around you, and do it with joy and thanksgiving. This is my recipe for a happy life.
