In August 2006, I returned from California after having attended a prominent national basketball camp whose focus was to give kids "exposure" and to provide ranking feedback to parents and a public who have grown hungry for this type of information. Although it was enjoyable, I felt it was too costly and seemed to cater mainly to a few players who already had made a reputation. I thought there was room for a better widget, hosted right here in Texas.
The first All American Prodigy Camp was held in Austin, TX in the spring of 2007. It was a resounding success attracting among others, future McDonald's All American John Henson (North Carolina) as it shot him on to the National scene. It did the same for unknown Daniel Alexander (Texas A&M) and Cory Jefferson (Baylor), just to name a few.
The camp was loaded with talent, but just as importantly it was staffed by knowledgeable, caring coaches. Under the direction of Coach Jeff Arnold, (Purdue) a veteran of 12 years of playing professionally overseas the camp stressed fundamentals and station work, and of course culminated with the obligatory all star games and awards ceremonies (including 3 point & slam dunk contests).
Players not only gained information to improve their game, but they also were treated to a positive evaluation from the staff, with inclusion into Coach Max's D-1 Nation Prep Report. It is my pledge that every camper improve their game and ideally raise his/her recruiting profile in the ultra competitive chase for an opportunity to be a key contributor on their high school team, and ultimately to obtain a college scholarship.
The camp is open to highly competitive boys and girls from 5th-11th grade.
Sincerely,
Coach Max Ivany
