Have you read the October issue of "Get on Our Soap Box!" yet? What did you think of this months issue?
We now a new car like the Red one in the middle photo at the top.
To all who may be interested to know we now have two Race Cars. The new one is a beautiful Silver one just like the red one in the Center photo at the Top. When I turn the Derby over to you as Officers I will allow the two cars shown at the Top to stay with the Organization for advertising purposes. The Older car is no Longer Legal for competition. But my Grand children live in Florida and It would cost more for freight than what they could buy a new one for.
The New one was donated by The Brother's Cabinet Top Manufacturing Company of Redding. Their daughter is a Former World Champion. I will show movies of her races and others when we have meetings. I need to get you Organized if we are to get our Sponsors ready to help get our cars for the Early Spring Races to start.
We need families and leader's. I will not be the Leader, That is for you the people to decide who will be in-charge. I just want to help you get everything Organized and you lined up with other Clubs to enjoy real Competition towards a World Championship.
I have found several Business's who are willing to be involved. BUT You the Member's have to show your responsibility and get the Organization formed. Money will come when you start making things happen. I am donating my expertise and the cars and I will even allow a work shop until we get it all organized and a club House. I have tools for kids to build their cars and a shop at no cost other than Electricity. That will not be much.
You are invited to a BBQ & Pot Luck to meet and make new friends:
With my dedicating more time to the Derby Effort, I would like to invite anyone who is new on our list and anyone else to attend a BBQ & Pot Luck My wife and I are throwing. This will give you a chance to meet other's in the North State and be able to build new friendships.
This is a Personal Invitation for you to come and enjoy BBQ and Pot Luck at our last Summer's End Event. We hope to have a fare amount of acquaintanceship and friends there. This will NOT be only for Car people. Due to health Problems This may be our last altogether. Event. We would love to have even those who has stayed away for the past few years. If there is anyone who would like to keep this site up and the people together,
Dian will sign it all over to whoever would enjoy making things happen. It would be sad to see all the great Photos and times go down the drain. It has been a hard road to travel But the Good over rides the Bumps.I want to thank each and everyone of you who has came into my life no matter how it turned out. I am sorry if I ever offended anyone. My home is still open to each and everyone of you. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 3:00 P. M. till 6:30 or when ever you want to leave. You can bring your own Wine and or Beer. We will have Ice in a Cooler to keep it cold. We will also have a Micro wave to warm food and the BBQ Grill with an extra Burner.

This incredible journey of 25 Hill has finally taken us to the end of one road and beginning of another. All the time and incredible effort that went into production of the movie has paid off! We are across the nation sharing our excitement of Soap Box Derby Racing. We are on store shelves at places like Walmart, Target, Best Buy and a variety of Christian Retailers, to name only a few. We are also available at Amazon and other on line outlets. And at the end of the month we will air on INSP - a fantastic Television Network. More on that specifically in weeks to come, but for now, all involved must feel proud of what we’ve accomplished.
The 75th anniversary of the All American Soap Box Derby takes place on July 21 – and we now are part of that history and tradition. I will be in Akron to celebrate this great day and witness, once again, the thrill of the hill; that coming together of families and communities for a common purpose that speak directly to “who we are” both as Americans and a global community.
This ride has been an honor, but as I said above, we are now heading down another road, where we turn fiction into reality, and like young Trey Caldwell in our film, begin to make a difference in our real world.
I stand side by side with you in that effort!

Good News;I had one Specialist Surgeon in Redding say to me today he will support with a donation for the 2013 Soap Box Derby if we can get our Organization up and running. The Manager of one of the Major Lumber Companies said if we have our Organization up and running they will also support our group. I have had several other Business's say the same thig. They want to see the people of the community show they can get together and form an Ogranization. We will have two World Champion Ship Soap Box Derby Cars also donated as well as my 1950-1954 Soapbox car. I have an appointment with Les Baugh County Supervisor Tuesday afternoon. I have talked to one of the Members of the Local Rotary Clubs as well as have a meeting with the Moose Lodge President next Tuesday also. I talked to one of the Manager's of one of the main Hardware stores and he also saidI would have to submit a Request in November.I have several Insurance Broker's who were also very interested. So We have to get an organization formed with Officer's and an Open Non Profit License registration filed ASAP. I am but one man and I need HELP! I need a Person who can qualify to handle the Money and take care of the Books for a Non- Profit Organization who is willing to donate their time and Knowledge. I do not and I Stress DO NOT: want any ties with the Money. Everything I do is Free and Donated. That is what I am hopeful for. Whoever is picked for the handling of the money it will be kept in a Trust Fund or whatever the leader's Vote on with a 2/3 rd. favorable vote by all Registered Member's. They should also be willing to submit to a Check through the Sheriff of the County. Boy do I agree with you that the world needs the Soap Box Derby, and other experiences like it for kids - anything that will get them off the cell phone and computer, and doing something creative where they build something with their own hands!
I was a derby racer in 1950. It was a great experience, and even though I only won one heat, it was great fun. (just for the record, I was ahead in my second heat, when my helmet come off and it was hanging by the chin strap - catching wind which allowed my opponent to pass me) Excuses, excuses! I was sponsored by 7up, and it was pretty jazzy with their logo plastered all over my car!
I hope you can get some support to see this happen in Shasta County.

I want to thank each and every person who has allowed me your E-mail address. I feel this can be one of the most rewarding things you have done for some time. It is my goal to get as many people, business's and Organizations united and represent the largest organized All American Soap Box Derby in history. With our Corporate Offices in Akron, Ohio, and our President Joe@aasbd.org, at the helm and many of us old Race drivers wanting to see the derby going for another 75 years at least. We appreciate your consideration of joining the program and helping bring the All American Soap Box Derby back to twice to three times it was in it's Hay Day. You can go on most any Search engine and enter the Name of the All American Soap Box Derby and learn it's History and of many great named people who once was involved as Race Drivers. I may be wrong, But I heard even Ronald Reagan once raced. Do not quote me. But I do know several NASCAR drivers got started with the All American Soap Box Derby.
I do know for a fact that Roy Roger's and Dale Evan's as well as Wm. Boyd were involved in the Derby in 1950, because that was my year of my first race. I met all three of them that year and maintained friendships for over fifty years. This is the most rewarding program I have ever been involved. Every child and family involved are winners. Every Business and / or Organization are also winners. We guarantee it. It will be the most educational and fun experience you will experience. Think of the advertising and boost it will give your community.

Big week. My film 25 Hill is released NATIONALLY this coming Tuesday, July 3rd. It will be on DVD at all the normal stores, Walmart, Target, Best Buy etc as well as on line. Also available for streaming - Netflix and others. Later in the month it will have a television premiere on the INSP Network as well. I wanted July 3 because the film celebrates all that is GREAT IN AMERICA. So many of you respond to posts I start here about family, community, faith and America. In 25 Hill I try to represent the basic discussion we have; that if we can come together for a common purpose, we can and DO make a difference. Those who have helped with 25 Hill have already made a difference, we have helped, for our part, to save The All American Soap Box DErby, the subject of the movie. We have helped save a GREAT AMERICAN TRADITION that celebrates everything we talk about. I never use this forum to ask for much personally, but I would so greatly appreciate your help in getting 25 Hill out there... yes, buy a copy, but more importantly, please tell your friends and family about it. It would mean more to me than you know. Take the upcoming week, and for just a week, put aside all your negatives and criticisms of our great country, and celebrate all that is good. That alone will make a difference and turn the tide. CB

to me
Hi Ray, It was great to talk with you the other day. I appreciate all your hard work and it's exciting to hear about all the enthusiasm for Soap Box Derby up north!
I agree with you that a dedicated track in Northern California would go along way toward exponentially growing the sport of Deby racing here in the West. The kids back east have the advantage of access to dedicated tracks within two to three hour radius of almost any where they live! A West Coast Nationals event could very much become a reality with derby race facility!
At the present, the only dedicated track on the West Coast is in Salem Oregon. Qualified racers from the west will be travelling this summer to the All-Amarican in Akron, Ohio and the National Derby Rallies (NDR) Nationals in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Imagine how excited folks would be if they could could realize the dream of making it to "The Big Race" without the added expense of travel across the country! Imagine how great it would be for the host community to have that many visitors in their town for a week!
We're hard at work down here in Tuolumne this week getting ready for our Local Championship Race next weekend, June 10th. We would like to extend an invitation to all in your organization to come attend our race. Our organization, The Northern California Soap Box Derby (NCSBD) has been organizing races for over thirty years. We recently moved our race city base from Vallejo to Tuolumne and are in our third year here. We put on two events each year here in Tuolumne. In coordination with the other race organizations in our region, we present both All-American and NDR sanctioned events.
We would love to have you join us. We would be happy to share whatever information you are interested in.
I have attached an information flyer for the event and some photos from our last race. I hope you can join us!

Races in Tuolumine, Ca. Sunday June 10, 2012 Come Early:
To all Soap Box Derby Fans : The races are on in Tuolumine, California Next Sunday. Come early and get your spots. They are expecting a Great Crowd. This will be a sanctioned Champion Ship Race. We urge everyone to attend if possible.
If you are interested in bringing all American soap box derby to the Mt Shasta area, both Nor Cal groups and the Salem OR group are certainly here to help.
Looks like you had a good turnout!
One of the best way to generat initial interest is to hold a rally so you can show the town and the locals what the cars look and run like and use it to generat enough interest to have your own races (ie: local race). Both our group and California Family Soap Box Derby( of which I am on the board) are very experienced traveling to new race cities and putting on rallies.
Will you be at Tuolumne for the local on Sunday? We could talk more then.
Let me know what you intentions are and we can go from there...

Dunsmuir, Chamber of Commerce 1 St. Soap Box Derby Race;
As an ole Race driver of 1950, and lover of the derby all these years I have helped several small towns throughout the Mid-west restart this wonderful youth as well as family and community program. I am so excited that it is finally getting a new start in Northern California. We want to invite all Soap Box Derby racer's Young and Old to attend each and every race they have a chance too. It is my goal to bring the Bay area as well as the Gold Country and other areas involved in these Soap Box Derby programs together and help me in my goal towards a West Coast Derby Downs like Akron, Ohio has. I know without a doubt we can do it. Stop worrying about the Economy. That has been an excuse long enough. The Soap Box Derby helps build Economy. It promotes Tourism, Education, Family togetherness, It has even brought split families back together and promoted new jobs as well as better education. It promotes better Citizens all around.
If a small mountain town such as Dunsmuir and Pinole, along with Small Gold Rush Towns in the Gold Country can do it to help their Communities out yours can too. This is your chance to get back to grass roots. I am sorry for not remembering the town's name. I think it is Tuolumine, I am not sure. But these towns have learned how much the Derby can do.
If you likeAll-American Soap Box Derby, like Gravity Racing Challenge. It is our education race where kids learn science, technology, engineering, and math then build a car and race it. Check it out.
We are hopeful to have a meeting at The Light House Restaurant on January 28, 2012 @ 6:30 P. M. to kick off the start of a drive to start a program to get the All American Soap Box Derby introduced here in the North State. We invite you to come and get acquainted and learn more about the Derby. We hope to have a Derby movie with a local yong lady from Redding being the Derby Champion in Akron, Ohio.
This is a program that is very enjoyable plus educational to all families. It is also a great program for the community with many benifits. We hope some of our community leader's and business people will fall in and help us get this program. This program can also bring business and Tourism to our area.
The All American Soap Box Derby is a Non Profit Organization and is a great Fund Raiser for our community as a whole. Check out who and what the Derby does by checking , www.aasbd.org, You can contact the President of the Derby @ Joe@aasbd.org/

The finish line has been crossed, new friends have been made and winners are preparing for Akron, Ohio. The 2011 Arlington Soap Box Derby took place on Saturday, June 4.

June 4, 2011 Coffee & Breakfast:
Today was an extremely disapointing day. We had two men show up besides myself. One gentelman was a new interested person and he even paid for all our breakfast. I really want to thank him for that. He ask me to not publish his name since nobody else showed up. The other gentleman Mr. Steve Hatfield drove all the way up as he has every time we have had a meet from Dairyville, CA.
I then went to a meeting in Whitmore, CA. where we conversed about starting a Derby Group in both Shingletown and Whitmore. The People there are extremely interested. They are going to start looking for an area to hold events. The Volunteer Fire Cheif as well as the Classic Car Show sponsor and others were very receptiveof the idea.
Ladies and gentleman, IF, I do not receive interest in Redding, CA. I am going to withdraw my support towards Redding. I am sorry, But I have tried to sponsor four different types of groups and programs in Redding and for some unknown reason, the people in Redding Ca. seems to only want to support programs not really where the youth can be involved. I have talked to High School chldren all over Redding, and they say Redding only wants events where the Police are always involved. I would welcome the Police or any organization who will help make the Derby a reality.
Once we get the Derby licensed and organized, I will no longer be much involved. I am only doing this for the youth and will turn over all responsibilities to the Elected representatives and the Parents. My family lives in Missouri and Florida.

If anybody knows the 3rd Annual Madisonville Local All American Soapbox Derby Race is right around the corner, it’s Bill Farrell.
Farrell, the race director for the Pennyrile Soapbox Derby Association, has spent the last week putting the finishing touches on cars and preparing the necessary equipment for Saturday’s big race.
“The first year was tough, but it’s becoming a lot easier,” Farrell said. “People know what it is, they see the cars in the Parkway Plaza Mall and they see that it’s growing and it’ll be a good thing for the community.”
Among Farrell’s duties this past week were making sure the cars’ steering was OK, checking brakes and making sure the small, yet important bolts and screws were tight. Earlier in the week, the racers stopped by the race’s temporary headquarters at the Parkway Plaza Mall for their final weigh-in before the big event.
This year’s field has 31 racers, including some seasoned veterans that raced at the national level last year, as well as 11 newcomers. Much like past years, the race will feature two divisions — stock and super stock. Farrell is happy with the size of the field, as the experienced racers can show the new ones the ropes.
“If you bring in 50 people who have never raced before, you’re going to have a lot of confusion on race morning,” Farrell said. “But we only brought in 11 cars, so the ones who have raced before will almost teach the ones that have never raced.”
The work Farrell has put in this week may increase next season, as the Pennyrile Soapbox Derby Association is already planning on adding 14 more cars to the race, as well as the masters division. The race’s growth over the past few years has been steady, and unlike the race itself, Farrell doesn’t want to go too fast.
“Our goal this year was to just add 10 cars but we got 11, and that’s fine,” Farrell said. “A lot of cities that have grown real fast have died. One city in western Kentucky started with 77 cars 10 years ago and is no longer in existence.”
Madisonville will be aware of the race’s existence this Saturday when Main Street gets temporarily transformed into a speedway. The opening ceremony and festivities will begin at 9 a.m., with the races starting directly after. Admission to the race is free and spectators are able to come and go freely, as well as enjoy the concession stand on site.
“Find some shade, bring a lawn chair and support the children that are racing,” Farrell said. “And don’t be afraid to yell or scream for a favorite car. I think everyone that goes will have a good time.

Regards,
Don Biggie

Last year, two cars competed. This year, nine. Next year, perhaps 50. We are sorting out a new way to sell the tickets and will hopefully be up tomorrow. Apologies from me personally. And no we are not sold out - we had HUGE interest - part of the problem - site traffic but tickets are still available.

Although they call it the Soap Box Derby, Theirs is not the same as the All American Soap Box Derby. In older times the Cars they are using were called Apple Crate, of Wood Frame Racing which is also a lot of fun, But do not offer the many benefits the All American or National Soap Box Derby Organizations do.
I fel it would be fun to have both types of Racing in the North State.

Jared Sjohn, is a very seasoned Soap Box Derby Race driver and has quite a history with the All American Soap Box Derby:
Not only is Travis a talented painter, pianist, gardener, Sunday school helper and Cub Scout, he's also an inventor and a seasoned Soap Box Derby racer.
Travis became fasinated with Hoover vacuums at 18 months old while visiting friends who had the little Hoover play vacuum. As he got older, he used Legos to build models of vacuums and even built some from scraps of wood and a plastic bread bag. At the age of 5, he became friends with everyone at the Hoover Museum. When Hoover turned 100, he had collected so many Hoover items that he was able to have his own display table during the celebration.
"He admires the people of Hoover, especially Boss Hoover, who gave so much to the town and citizens of North Canton," Sara said.
And there's more.
Last September, Travis built his own Soap Box Derby car. He had his first race at Derby Downs in Akron and came in third place. On July 23, he'll race in the All-American Soap Box Derby, where he'll compete against kids from all over the world.
"He's an extraordinary kid to us and and his younger brother and sister," Sara said.
Blue Ridge Soap Box Derby Classic registrations will be ending soon for the annual derby to be run this year on Saturday, June 11 in Downtown Waynesboro.
