Welcome to my Natural Hair Journey!

On March 2, 2004, while sitting in my beautician's chair receiving my last chemical fire cream, I knew it would be the last time (almost).  In November 2007 I backslid and put a chemical fire cream in myself, but immediately shaved it out within weeks (it was truly YUCK).  I remembered how disgusted the fake hair was to me.  I fully credit Dee from Nappturality.com for being an amazing influencing factor.  It is a mindset thing, just like my weight journey is.  Note I didn't say WAS, I said IS... because both journeys are never ending.

In late December 2008, I decided to grow my hair back and quit the barber shop cold turkey.  This is HUGE for me because for the past three years I have been addicted to the barber shop.  But I do everything cold turkey.  No half-azzing.

So look out for updates as I grow my mane back in!  Peace and blessings in 2009!!  Oh and YES WE DID!

 

In May 2009 I got bored with the shrinkage and decided to texlax.  Which then turned in to relaxing.  I wore my hair relaxed/straight for the entire 2009/2010 winter.  In early 2010 I started cutting it again.  Finally in the summer of 2010 I was deeply inspired by 2 of my Line Sisters Nikki and Cree, as well as my best friend Patrice and my mother to return to being natural.  The funny part about that is, in 2004 when I first went natural, I was the inspiration for my best friend and mom to do so.  Now they are my inspiration to return to it.

 

June 11, 2010 I got a relaxer.  2 weeks later I started having the barber shave it off little by little.  My goal is to start off with a very short boy cut and grow my huge fro back.  Hopefully 7/13/10 is my last barber shop shave down to remove all of the relaxer.  My real hair is SO MUCH SOFTER than that nasty relaxer!  I would like to be locked by the time I am 40 (8/17/2012) (unless I enjoy my loose fro too much to do so by then).

I REALLY like this gel. Not greasy, smell is fab, GREAT hold yet the hair is soft, zero whiteness or flakes. The hold is FABULOUS which I need, because the hair around my hairline always creeps out.. not with this stuff.
