"Word Up" from Coach Katie

Passing the Spirit Stick

Cheer Family,

By now you are probably aware that I have decided not to coach again next year.  My youngest son is graduating, and I feel the need to transition as well.  I will teach Seniors and AP Juniors (American Studies) next year, and want to focus my energy and time on those classes.

I spoke with Ms. Houser some months ago about this decision and she was supportive.  Much time and effort was spent searching for just the right replacement, and I am so excited that Coach Katie Raymond will be my successor at the end of May.  She is the former UT Mascot and has been employed by UCA for the last six years, touring the country, and teaching.  I know you will welcome her and support her with the same love and enthusiasm you have shown me.

We shared our transition plan with the team this morning, and I believe the team is excited about her experience and youth.

I have treasured the time spent with all of you, and look forward to seeing you at many events.

God speed.

Jan. 10: School Of The Week, Anderson H.S.

Updated: Thursday, January 10 2013, 12:42 PM CST

We had quite a morning at Anderson High School.

We visited on-air with Principal Donna Houser.  Anderson has a reputation for academic excellence.  She also let us know about the students accomplishments in science, athletics and fine arts.

Science students showed off the robotics projects they’re working on.
Students from Anderson's International Baccalaureate program told us about how the program prepares them to do college level research papers and challenges them to do better in school.

We also worked in a plug for the school's upcoming production of the stage musical "Pajama Game."

And the swim team told us about having to practice out in the cold when a natatorium to allow them to work on their skills year round.

Appreciation for the girls hard work!

Cheer Family,

I am copying a sweet note from Sarah Frankenfield, AHS Project Specialist, who coordinated the event this morning.  I too was very proud of our team!

Audrei, please give a big thank you to the cheerleaders. During the interviews you could see the kids in  the background, and the the cheerleaders were always "at attention" and then did their thing when called upon.  It wouldn't have been the same without them.  They truly added to the atmosphere in the gym today. I looked back at Austin High and their cheerleaders didn't even bring pom-poms and barely cheered. Ours were great!  Appreciate your help with this.

Next  us, Course Fair.  Thank you!

Good morning!  This is the week - Thursday morning at 5:15 am!  ***Please email me that you received this message and are ready to go on Thursday! We will have lots of coffee, water and snacks available. (I need to know numbers for snacks/water.  How many in Band? Belles? Cheer?) Everyone should report to the gym.

4:30 am - Jesse and I arrive to meet the KEYE Photographer
5:15 am - Students arrive
5:45 am - IB interview
5:50-6:45 - Live clips of students in the background. Fred Cantu will let everyone know when these will happen.
6:45 am - Robotics interview
6:50 am - OVER!  Students can go home.

Band, Belles and Cheer - wear some sort of uniform.
Feel free to send complaining parents my way. I'm happy to deal with them so that you don't have to this time! :-)

I will send a reminder to the staff on Wednesday reminding them that they may have some sleepy kids in class and that we ask for no tests this day since so many of our students are involved. (Being the 4th day back, this shouldn't be an issue!)

THANK YOU for once again being our "go to" for instant visual impression!  See you on Wednesday. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.

Senior Recognition / Appreciation Night

Cheer Family,

Hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing break.  We will kick off the spring semester with a night to honor our Seniors and their Families.  Tomorrow night during half time of the Basketball game, seniors and their parents will be recognized.  Prior to the game, 6:45 - 7:30, their will be a reception for seniors and their parents in room 11.  All other cheerleaders and mascot will serve, and all must stay for the entire game.  I will post on FB what to wear.

Take care.
