Ornaments for Holiday Party
This weekend is our annual Holiday Party! We hope to see all of you there! This is a friendly reminder that we are asking each cheerleader and mascot to bring ONE ornament to exchange. Please keep it around the $15 price limit and something that any member would like to receive. Looking forward to seeing everyone and celebrating this wonderful time of year!
November 22nd Game Rescheduled
Parents, please note that the November 22nd (Friday) girls' basketball game has been moved to Monday, November 25th. The Gold team will still cheer this game and the Blue team will still cheer the November 26th (Tuesday) game. Hopefully this will be the last change that the coaches make with all the Delco re-arrangements. Thanks for your understanding! The girls have been notified already.
This needs to be signed and returned to Coach Katie before the end of the day, 11/15. If you missed the meeting you were responsible for getting what you missed. Every day that it is late equals one lunch detention. Skipping lunch detention will result in a referral to Saturday school. Thanks!
A huge thank you to the cheerleaders and mascots who did a terrific job this past weekend during all of the Homecoming and 40th Anniversary celebrations. Stunts hit, dances rocked, skits were hilarious, and cheers were loud and proud. AND, of course, an even bigger thank you to all of you parents and family members who helped us out along the way! We couldn't do it without all of your support!
It's almost the 40th Anniversary of AHS! Here's how we'll be participating:
- 2:45-4:15: Pep rallies in AHS gym
- 4:30-5:30: Parade
- 10:30: Meet at AHS, in uniform, to kick-off 40th Anniversary Ceremony
- Lunch at AHS
- ~12:30: Load buses to House Park
- 2:00: Kick-off against Austin High
***No one is permitted to leave the game early. Please make all appointments accordingly.
Komen Race for the Cure - TEAM EVENT!
On the morning of November 10 the cheerleaders and mascots will be participating in the
Komen Race for the Cure in downtown Austin. This is a mandatory event. Your child can register themselves or you can register them at:
*Simply click 'join existing team'
*Search for 'Anderson HS Cheerleaders'
*Click 'join team'
*(You don't need to create a login)
*Click 'Adult Untimed'
*We are doing the 5k (not the Family Run)
***The fee is $30 to enter. If this is an issue for anyone, please
let me know and we can work it out.
As a team we will walk the first mile together. From there, students may
meet up with friends or family, but we ask that we at least do this
together. We'll be in matching shirts and will be raising money for the
event at the Bowie game.
Marcia Rader has graciously offered to pick up the race packets, and we will distribute them the day of the race.
Thanks for helping support this terrific cause!
Please make note that there are several events that are mandatory, along with the pep rallies, practices, and games. One is the Komen Race for the Cure on November 10. This has been on the cheer calendar for months in advance and I have not heard from anyone that they will be unable to attend. I have asked that any cheerleader who will be unable to attend an event bring me an excuse a month or more in advance. As I have not heard from anyone, I am under the assumption that all 20 girls and the two mascots will be at the race. Unless I hear otherwise in the next two days, they will be penalized with a failing test grade in the cheer gradebook for this event.
This also goes for the October 20th training at ACF from 1pm-3pm. We sent out these dates several weeks ago and the girls were told to put them in their calendars; the month deadline for excused missing of this event has passed. This will also be a grade.
Thanks for all your support.
As important as cheerleading is, we need PASSING
cheerleaders to do it. Unfortunately, we currently have seven girls failing at least one class and several on the 69/70 borderline. Please remember that you are ineligible
to cheer until an all-passing
progress report. Cheerleaders who are failing will still be required to attend practices, but may not perform. That means your child will not be able to cheer at games or the Homecoming pep rally unless they are passing every
class on this upcoming report card. Please make sure you and your daughter (or son) are logging into GradeSpeed regularly and attending tutorials.
As some of you may be aware, this year marks LC Anderson's 40th Anniversary of being at the Steck/Mesa location, so there will be extra festivities. Here is a basic run-down of the weekend:
- Blue & Gold Pep Rally: 10/25 - this will take place during the final block of school
- Homecoming Parade: 10/25 - 4:30
- The girls will walk in the parade (around a block) with poms and in uniform, possibly tossing candy and goodies
- We are trying to work up something for Troy to ride on with Anderson flags
- Kick-off 40th Anniversary Ceremony: 10/26 ~11AM
- We have been asked to perform the fight song/school song for the ceremony
- Belles and band will not be attending, so this is truly our time to shine and show our school pride!
- Homecoming Game versus Austin High: 10/26 - 2pm @ House Park
**The Homecoming dance is Saturday night. Please note that the cheerleaders will NOT be permitted to leave early for hair/nail/makeup/etc. appointments. Please plan accordingly. All of these events are mandatory appearances. Hope to see y'all there!
NO GAME 9/20 - **RAINED OUT**
Hi parents and team!
We will NOT be attending tonight's game versus Vandegrift. As much as I love school spirit and want to support our boys, ultimately the girls' (and Sam's, of course) safety is number one priority. With the continuing rain and lightning/flash flood warnings, I believe it is best that we forego tonight's event along with the Belles and band.
A big thank you, however, to Ms. Crosswell, for still bringing us delicious food! And a shout-out to the cheerleaders and mascots for ROCKING the pep rally this morning! Great job everyone!
First Day of School
The first day is almost here! In place of practice Monday morning, cheerleaders and mascots will be expected to go the various elementary and middle schools to welcome our future Trojans on their first days. The girls (and Sam) already have their placements.
Everyone will also wear their uniforms on the first day of school, as per tradition. Please make sure all uniforms and parts are washed and ready for next week. It will be one of our busiest and set the tone for the rest of the season!
As always, thanks for all you do!
Please note the change in the summer practice schedule for the week of August 12-14. I have a new teacher orientation training all day every day and these practices were scheduled before I was aware of that, hence the later time. Monday and Tuesday are for sure, Wednesday depends on how the first two days go. The following week's practices are also subject to change. Apologies for any confusion - please let me know if this presents any conflicts! Thanks!
- Coach Katie
**URGENT** Forms needed ASAP to participate in cheer
Good morning cheer family!
I am emailing you, telling your sons and daughters, posting on the AHS Cheer site, posting in the team's Facebook page, texting, calling, carrier pigeon-ing to make sure that we get several very important forms completed and returned to me.
1) PHYSICALS. This is absolutely necessary to have on file. I need a copy of the 2013-2014 physical form completed and with a doctor's signature. You and your child also need to read over and sign the anabolic steroid use/steroid testing portion as well as the concussion acknowledgement form. All of these are included in the yellow physical packet I will give your child. If you already have a physical on file with the school, please send me a copy or let me know so I can verify with the trainers. **Regardless, everyone needs to fill out the additional steroid and concussion forms.** Physicals (in total completion) are due to me no later than August 17! Without these completed your child will not be able to participate in practice or performance. If I do not have it by this date, your child will not be allowed to cheer at the Blue and Gold Scrimmage (a required appearance) and will be penalized accordingly. These are the district's rules, not my own. Please take care of this!
2) EMERGENCY STUDENT INFO CARD. This is a green card that I must have on file for every participant. You will need to fill out both sides and include all information. I need one for cheer even if you've already filled one out for another sport. Please remember to sign this. This form is simply a required safety precaution so that, heaven forbid, I can always contact you if your child was to experience any injury. This is also due no later than August 17 with the same penalty as the physical.
3) UIL SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST AWARENESS FORM. This is the simplest of the three. It is simply a required sheet to be read and signed by you and your child. This must be returned by August 4 (when we leave for camp).
4) UCA CAMP PARTICIPANT WAIVER & DRIVER'S RELEASE FORM. Most of you have signed and returned these already, but we need to have every participant's by August 1!
Each student will receive a copy of these things. The physical form can also be downloaded from the Anderson Website.
Thanks to each and every one of you for all that you do for your child and the AHS cheer program!
UCA Cheer Camp
It's almost that time! Please makes sure your children have brought both their travel forms and their camp waiver forms to me. Also, if you opted for the camp insurance option, you will need to send $5 with your child to camp. Parents are invited to attend final day, August 8, to watch performances. They will be held in the Rec Center at Texas A&M. I'll post a schedule as soon as we get to camp, but I would try to arrive by 9AM at the latest to watch. Cheerleaders will perform several routines they've learned during the week and the mascots perform a big skit, "mascot follies." Awards will also be given out. Camp should be over by 11AM.
I'm attaching a packing check-list. Please go over this list with your cheerleader/mascot! I'll also post it on their Facebook page. It is going to be a fantastic week!
Happy Summer, everyone!
I hope you are all relaxing and soaking up some rays. Just wanted to throw a few dates and times at you to mark on your calendars:
The week of July 22-25 practice will be held from 12:30-2:30 in the Small Gym. This week will focus on making signs, spirit card templates, and making sure our dance and fight song routines are set for camp.
The following week is our youth camp, which should be a blast! This will be July 29-August 1, 9:00AM-4:00PM.
Next is our amazing day and night in Bastrop then UCA cheer camp at A&M! I'll be sending out a packing list - please make sure your child has EVERYTHING on it in their bags!
We will have some practices in the weeks following cheer camp, and I will be getting back to you with exact dates and times once they are set.
Take care and have fun!
Passing the Spirit Stick
By now you are probably aware that I have decided not to coach again next year. My youngest son is graduating, and I feel the need to transition as well. I will teach Seniors and AP Juniors (American Studies) next year, and want to focus my energy and time on those classes.
I spoke with Ms. Houser some months ago about this decision and she was supportive. Much time and effort was spent searching for just the right replacement, and I am so excited that Coach Katie Raymond will be my successor at the end of May. She is the former UT Mascot and has been employed by UCA for the last six years, touring the country, and teaching. I know you will welcome her and support her with the same love and enthusiasm you have shown me.
We shared our transition plan with the team this morning, and I believe the team is excited about her experience and youth.
I have treasured the time spent with all of you, and look forward to seeing you at many events.
New Cheer Parent Meeting & Fundraising
Hope this day finds you well! Our New Cheer Parent Meeting has been rescheduled! We will meet @ 6:00 PM for 30 minutes prior to the booster meeting on 4/9 in room 334. Also, please be sure your girls (and Sam) turn in their fundraising money! This is the last week! Take care.

Jan. 10: School Of The Week, Anderson H.S.
Updated: Thursday, January 10 2013, 12:42 PM CST
We had quite a morning at Anderson High School.
We visited on-air with Principal Donna Houser. Anderson has a reputation for academic excellence. She also let us know about the students accomplishments in science, athletics and fine arts.
Science students showed off the robotics projects they’re working on.
Students from Anderson's International Baccalaureate program told us about how the program prepares them to do college level research papers and challenges them to do better in school.
We also worked in a plug for the school's upcoming production of the stage musical "Pajama Game."
And the swim team told us about having to practice out in the cold when a natatorium to allow them to work on their skills year round.

Appreciation for the girls hard work!
I am copying a sweet note from Sarah Frankenfield, AHS Project Specialist, who coordinated the event this morning. I too was very proud of our team!
Audrei, please give a big thank you to the cheerleaders. During the interviews you could see the kids in the background, and the the cheerleaders were always "at attention" and then did their thing when called upon. It wouldn't have been the same without them. They truly added to the atmosphere in the gym today. I looked back at Austin High and their cheerleaders didn't even bring pom-poms and barely cheered. Ours were great! Appreciate your help with this.Next us, Course Fair. Thank you!

Subject: IMPORTANT: Thursday's KEYE visit
Good morning! This is the week - Thursday morning at 5:15 am! ***Please email me that you received this message and are ready to go on Thursday! We will have lots of coffee, water and snacks available. (I need to know numbers for snacks/water. How many in Band? Belles? Cheer?) Everyone should report to the gym.
4:30 am - Jesse and I arrive to meet the KEYE Photographer
5:15 am - Students arrive
5:45 am - IB interview
5:50-6:45 - Live clips of students in the background. Fred Cantu will let everyone know when these will happen.
6:45 am - Robotics interview
6:50 am - OVER! Students can go home.
Band, Belles and Cheer - wear some sort of uniform.
- Band doesn't have to fully dress out but dress alike.
- Cheer, please wear uniforms and bring pom-pons.
- Belles - should the girls wear their uniforms and hats? Others were in these uniforms and it did look good on the tv. Should Belles bring pom-pons so that they can hold something? Erin, let's visit before you leave.
- Please ask the mascot to be there also in uniform.
Feel free to send complaining parents my way. I'm happy to deal with them so that you don't have to this time! :-)
I will send a reminder to the staff on Wednesday reminding them that they may have some sleepy kids in class and that we ask for no tests this day since so many of our students are involved. (Being the 4th day back, this shouldn't be an issue!)
THANK YOU for once again being our "go to" for instant visual impression! See you on Wednesday. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
Senior Recognition / Appreciation Night
Hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing break. We will kick off the spring semester with a night to honor our Seniors and their Families. Tomorrow night during half time of the Basketball game, seniors and their parents will be recognized. Prior to the game, 6:45 - 7:30, their will be a reception for seniors and their parents in room 11. All other cheerleaders and mascot will serve, and all must stay for the entire game. I will post on FB what to wear.
- Senior parents - Can you email or text me what family members will be recognized with your daughter? email@example.com It's fine to bring siblings and grandparents. We know they play a huge role in support.
- There is no booster meeting tomorrow night. It has been moved to 1/15/13.
Basketball Blue / Gold Schedule
Hope you all had a restfull (albeit filling) Thanksgiving. The girls are spit into blue /gold teams during b-ball season based on stunt group, not leadership teams. Here is the balance of the calendar:
