Arts of the Covenant Mission Statement
We are a group of people interested in exploring the intersection of Christian faith and the visual arts. Emerging and professional artists, art teachers and art therapists who live throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area gather monthly for intellectual stimulation, spiritual nourishment, artistic development and the opportunity to use art in ministry and community service.
The content of our Arts of the Covenant meetings is always changing and refreshingly varied – from presentations by artists, theologians and museum curators to explorations using art materials. Our activities have included religious-theme art exhibitions, book publishing, creative workshops, and art collaborations.
We offer a monthly art critique, a small group for artists wanting to work through creative blocks, and a variety of service activities, such as crafting quilts for hospitals in Goma, Africa, art auction to support an Ethiopian mission, and art workshops for marginalized people, including jail inmates, foster kids, and the homeless.

Arts of the Covenant News Update
Compassion Weekend - Portraits of Veterans. On the weekend of April 28 and 29, 2012, members of Arts of the Covenant will be at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Palo Alto, CA creating free portraits in different art media of the vets and their families. Rhythms and Patterns in Nature. An 80-page catalog of selections from the fall 2011 art exhibition artfully combines images, artist statements, scripture and poetry. Angels: Artists Imagine the Invisible. This beautiful 120-page book, published in 2009, contains angel imagery created by Arts of the Covenant members, their artists statements and a foreword by theologian Chris James. Fifty-six artists of faith explore through art, prose, and poetry 31 Biblical heroines and villainesses, imagining their experiences and reflecting on their purpose in scripture. Produced by Arts of the Covenant in 2008, the youngest artist was 17 and the oldest writer was 97. The book contains a Bible study guide and discussion questions. To order the book, click here.
Names of God. This unique collaborative artist book illustrates 50 poetic and visual names of God as recorded in the Old and New Testaments. The book includes original artwork by Arts of the Covenant members and other artists around the country. It can be viewed online by clicking here.
Upcoming Group Events
Arts of the Covenant Monthly Meeting: Our next meeting is Thursday, April 26, in the Fellowship Hall at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church at 950 Santa Cruz Ave., Menlo Park, CA 94025. Betsy Colby will lead a discussion about bridge metaphors. Afterwards, everyone will collaborate to create a large "Peacemakers Quilt."
