I recommend that you always rinse your teapot with warm tap water before brewing so as to extend it's life. Add loose or bagged tea and freshly boiled water. Cover and steep for 3 - 7 min. The built-in strainer keeps loose tea in the pot and not your cup. Even though this is made of stoneware clay please take routine precautions around the spout, cover and handle. I wash mine by hand and it's lasted for years. Also, to avoid "thermal shock" don't expose it to extreme temperature changes: hot to cold and cold to hot.
