ASTRA Club Photos - 149 - ASTRA at Hugh J. Boyd Jr. Elem. School 6-3-11

John Endreson is giving an astronomy presentation for 2nd graders. This was a private event including Class room presentation and Solar observing.

I started off the presentation discussing and explaining the differences between the Universe, the Galaxies, and our Solar System. I explained how the Sun and the planets formed from a Nebula. We named all the planets and talked and answered questions about each one. We discussed the other solar system objects, Asteroids and Comets then we made a comet in the classroom. We talked a little more about the Sun including Sun Spots and Solar Flares then we went outside and viewed the Sun through a telescope. We talked about how the early Earth formed and how Comets may have brought water and other ingredients for life.

The kids really enjoyed the Solar System paddles we have for each of the planets, Asteroids, and Comets. And the Solar Glasses where a big hit.
