Aurora's first Christmas
First Christmas went really well.... Miss Aurora got up her usual 5 am , but after bottle and some play time, slept until 10am ... needless to say her father was happy about that and i was happy to have some quiet time in the house
When we were opening presents, at first she had no idea what to make of it ... the shiny paper, the colorful bows .... she was perplexed ....After we showed her what was inside the shiny paper, it did not take her long to start ripping paper and then promptly putting it in her mouth ... Once she realized that the stuff inside the yummy paper made noises and flashed lights, well she went to town
Second weekend in January, Aurora and I took our first trip to visit the girls on Staten Island. She did remarkably well for a 3 hours car ride. And i do have to say, she enjoyed the weekend thoroughly ... she was so excited to be with the girls, that she didn't want to sleep at all ... and then we got a cranky Aurora, but we would eventually get her down
Miss Aurora is rolling all over the place now .... and i do believe she is training for Olypmic gold in rolling .... No signs of crawling yet, but most her presents from Santa involve encouragement in crawling ... so we will get there
And for those of you counting ..... 4 months of teething and absolutely NO TEETH yet
Baby Blessings, Teeth and Halloween
Yes I know, I have a lot to catch you guys up on .....
Aurora had her baby blessing on October 11 ..... And it was a good day , we had unusually warm weather for October, the sun was shining here in Vestal, and all the out of towners did not hit traffic on their way here. We, the Black, went to the church early to meet everyone - and all was good.
Then we actually went into the church and that was when all heck broke loose. First my nephew Brendan preferred to be outside as opposed to inside. No problem there, we were not going to start for a few minutes. I went out with my brother and Brendan to play outside for awhile. My dad came outside and for the brief moment the door was open, I could hear Aurora wailing. I head inside and can not find the little one. I wonder through the maze of offices and classrooms and finally detected her wail in the men's room. I knocked once and then went in - i promise no males objected. Ru was trying to change her to see if that would make her feel better. It didn't. Then i tried feeding her , nothing would calm her down.
We finally decided to go through the blessing, wails and all. We then stripped her out of her blanket and polyester gown (hey dude it was from the '70s - first her uncle's then it was mine). So we drive back to our house with the kid in her nappy and the AC blasting. She calmed down.
We put a onsie on her and headed to my parents where everyone was gathering. She only wanted Daddy that day.... so with Daddy she stayed. We still thank everyone for coming and you can send us the bills for any headache medicine you may have needed to take that day.
Promptly on Oct 13, Aurora's Aunt Cindy found she had cut a tooth on the top front. Aunt Cindy went out and bought Aurora her first pair of shoes (little cowgirl boots - and Aunt Cindy she loves them - Daddy puts them on her when they go out)
From Oct 11 to current, Aurora is working on tummy time and flipping over. Right now she can only flip to the right .... no left flipping yet
On Halloween, work had a parade in the afternoon for all the kids to come around. Ru dropped the baby girl off in the afternoon. The first 20 minutes was great. She let people hold her and she actually got to trick or treat some ( no worries folks - she got a cuddly toy and a sippy cup=)). After the 20 minutes, she had enough. All at work knew she was there. We left soon after that and i told my baby girl not to worry, i generally cry when i am at work for more than 20 minutes as well
That is about all i have no for you folks... I will get better at updating
Just to catch you up on things
Ok, i know i am a complete slacker since i have been back to work ... but i wanted to update you on Aurora's doings...
I went back to work on 9/2/2008, of course that was a Tuesday. For those who do not know our daycare scheduling, Tuesdays are the days that grandma and poppop watch Aurora. So i went over at the crack of dawn to drop of my daughter. I got to say, i was very worried how the first day would go. I was not really worried about my daughter, but more for my parents! That girl can be a handful. Luckily my husband got off work around 3pm and was able to get her. All survived and the following Tuesdays have been going well.
Daddy watches her during the weekdays, and I go on duty during the nights. It has been an adjustment, but i think we are all doing well.
Aurora has outgrown 3 month clothes, and i think she will fly through the 3-6 month clothes. She is starting to grab her feet, entertain herself, and loves to kick her mobile when she is awake during the night (needless to say, this send me flying into the room until i see her and observe she is laughing at my quick response time)
As of yesterday, at the grandparents house, she grabbed the ratlle herself and started playing with it. This made me very happy. She has not done it again yet, but its good for me to know she can. She also tried to hold her bottle when feeding with Daddy
That is all i can think of at the moment. Hope all is well
Sorta Smiles and Rattles
OK .... We now have confirmation from the grandparents that Aurora does indeed smile. I still have not been able to get proof of her smile on camera. Aurora does give me smirks for the camera, but she refuses to let that beautiful smile be caught on tape. In the new pictures added today, you will see her smirks
She has her 2 month (2 month already!!!!) doctor appointment on 8/21/2008. She is now at 23.5 inches, 12 lbs 13 oz, and developmentally doing real well. She had to endure 3 shots and one vaccination by oral dose. Needless to say, my lovely daughter never minds when she has to eat or drink something, so the oral dose was a piece of cake. Not sure how it tasted, but it smelt like bananas. The first shot was in her left leg. She cranked for a millisecond after the needle was taken out. Then she was happy again. In the right leg, the two last shots were given. After the third, Aurora had enough and felt it was highly important that the nurse know how annoyed she really was.
Daddy comforted her and got her in the car, while I went to set up the next appointment of torture ...(for anyone interested, it will be 10/22 and this time Daddy will have to go it alone because i will be in work)
A new thing Aurora is doing is holding her rattle and shaking it. We do have video for the non-believers who may think we are "posing" her pictures (mainly talking to you Mom =)). I just need to figure out how to get video on this site. We are trying to encourage her to hold and use the rattle in both hands. When the lovely princess is in a good mood, she will go to town with the rattle. When she can not be bothered, she will hit herself in the face with the rattle, causing me to freak out and take it away..... so says they can not manipulate this early is out of their mind! There are some new pictures of her with her rattle added today as well
That is all for now folks! I hope you enjoy!
Poppop's Birthday and Crib Time
Well, on Poppop's birthday, it was confirmed, at least to Grandma, that Aurora's does indeed smile. Grandma witnessed this event twice that evening (i believe the smiles were her present to Poppop on his birthday, but not sure if he got to see them)
We still do not have photographic proof of her smiles yet. I am snapping the camera everyday, but the smile still evades me. I do not want to snap too often because i do not want my child to go blind by the ever ready flash.
Another note, as of 8/9/08, Aurora has been sleeping in her crib in her room at night. Now this is not such a big deal to her, but more a huge deal to me. I liked having her right at my side at night, but the fact of the matter is, she is simply getting too big for her bassinet. Soooo, I took my big girl pill and put her in her crib. For the past two nights, she has slept absolutely fine.
And sooner or later I will stop staring at the video monitor and actually sleep myself. Lets face it, its nothing to her and a huge deal to me. Aurora is a strong willed little lady and is helping me get over myself. Needless to say, her father is happy with the move.
That is all for now. I posted pictures from Poppop's birthday and random ones I took over the weekend.
That elusive smile
Aurora has started smiling on an almost consistent basis. What has not occurred is that she will not smile when you have a camera nearby OR a person not mummy and daddy around to witness the smile.
Take yesterday for example. Grandma, Aurora and myself were in the grocery store. I just needed to pick up a few things, so Grandma was pushing the cart. Aurora was happily making cooing sounds and looking at Grandma. I turned to look, and the girl had a big smile on her face ...Grandma, however, was looking away. So I smacked my Mom on the arm to turn her head. As soon as Grandma looks in her direction, Aurora promptly wipes the smile off her face and continues cooing communication.
Grandma told Poppop (American granddad) about this "supposed smile". In my family, if no one confirms the event, there is great suspicion that it ever happened.
My new mission now is to capture my baby girl's beautiful smile on film and put the naysayers to rest!
I will inform all once I have the evidence in hand!
