Happy New Year to All!

I want to wish all my friends a very happy, healthy, and prosperous new year, may it be the best year ever.

 

This year we spent the holidays in Livingston, TX, the weather has been somewhat cool for the area. Low 50s most days, some days it was in the high 40s, yesterday it was in the 60s, beautiful. We walked for hours wearing a long sleeve shirt.  The nights get down to low 30s, but, it hasn't froze the water yet!!!!  I hope I didn't talk too soon, the weather isn't supposed to improve for another week or so. By that time, I think we will be on our way to Florida, God Willing!

Well, I'm back!!

I haven't made any entries for awhile, I guess writing isn't my thing but I do love to share my trip with everyone.

We recently visited my sister in Crowsnest Pass, AB, then onto BC. The drive was wonderful to say the least. We spent 7 days on Vancouver Island visiting as many places as we could.  Made day trips to Nanaimo, Qualicum Beach, Port Alberni, Chemainus, Duncan, Catherdral Trail in MacMillan Provincial Park, and Victoria. On the way back to the ferry I visited Butchart Gargens, how beautiful!  I really enjoyed Vancouver Island, it's a beautiful place! I will post pictures soon. Before leaving BC I took a tour to Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain, I was at Blackcomb one day before the forest fire. Whistler is a cool place!

We took a couple of days off in Washington then took the ferry across Deception Pass to Olympic National Park, WA. We went to 3 different campgrounds, spent the last night at South Beach Campground right on the Pacific Ocean. We visited Hurricane Ridge, HOH Rain Forest, Rialto Beach, and visited the largest Sitka Spruce tree at Lake Quinault another part of the Olympic Rain Forest. We saw another large Sitka Spruce on the way to HOH Rain Forest.

Now we are spending time in Ocean City, Ocean Shores, and Copalis Beach before heading to Seattle area to do some siteseeing around Seattle.

The scenery everywhere is awesome, I have taken many pictures to remind me of all the beauty. I will share them soon.

The weather here is not real hot, in fact, it cools down a lot at night. Not unbearable though! It isn't hot as it was in BC.

 

 

Happy New Year to All!

First, I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year.

We are at Valley Vista RV Resort in Benson, AZ, now. The weather has been simply wonderful! Low 70F during the day and low 30sF at night. Last night, the water froze at the outside tap, it took a couple hours of sunshine to thaw it out. Thank heavens the inside pipes didn't freeze!

We are at 3500 Ft. elevation here, and completely surrounded by mountains, very nice! The desert has more plant life here but you have to watch out for small burrs, or stickies, as I call them, that stick in your feet and legs right through your socks. So, I try to walk in areas with less dry vegetation.

 

We'll be here until January 11, then thinking of heading east to Texas to do some square dancing, we also want to go to Deming, NM, and Big Bend National Park in Texas on the way to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.

Finally a Nice Day!

We arrived in Casa Grande, AZ (Desert Shadows RV Resort) on Dec. 21, the weather has been real cool up until today. We had 66F today, they forecasted for 56F, I'm glad they were wrong. I'm not sure but I think the temperature has been much cooler than usual, around 55F during the day and in the 40s at night.

Not much to do in this area, but the RV park has many activities and meals to participate in. Christmas dinner was booked so we will have to eat alone tomorrow. Tonight, we will go to the "Traditional Christmas Eve Soup Dinner", consists of soup, corn bread, and drink, all for $3. Following the Soup Dinner will be Christmas Carols and Candlelight closing, should be fun.

A Rainy Day in Arizona!

Well, it's raining!  Haven't seen much rain for a long long time!  It doesn't rain much in this part of the country but they sure need it. Tomorrow we'll see much more green around, and we'll see plants, shrubs, and trees actually growing. The desert is particularly beautiful after a rain. There isn't any desert to walk Charlie here, we're in a sort of populated area alongside the Colorado River. Right here, the river separates CA and AZ.

 

A little update on how I feel:  I can't believe how fast I've recouperated from surgery.  On December 11, when I went for my followup Doctor appointment I actually felt very very little pain. Two days later, I actually felt no pain, so I can say that around 8 days after the surgery I was almost back to normal. How wonderful!  The doc made four cuts, 3 very small ones, and a bigger cut around 1.5 inches where she removed the sick gallbladder. At home, back in 1997, I was actually advised not to do the surgery because it would be a difficult one. How wrong they were! There was no problem with scar tissue or anything else, how little they knew then.

 

We're here in Ehrenberg, AZ for two more days, on December 19, we'll go east to Salome, AZ for two days before heading for Casa Grande, AZ for 14 days. The weather is supposed to be better there.  So, keep well and have a great day!

This is a Great Day!

God is good, I am still here to share all the wonder and beauty that has been given to us. Yes, the other day I was afraid that this would not be the case. You see, on Tuesday, December 2, I decided to visit the emergency department of the Yuma, AZ hospital and they kept me there. Around 8 p.m. on December 3, I had gallbladder surgery, and was released around noon on December 5. Today, I feel quite a bit better, not perfect, but quite a bit better.

I have been very lucky in my life in some ways, ways such as hitting the right Surgeon at the right time. You see, I attribute me being on this earth today to the surgeon I happened on way back in 1977, those who know me that long will understand that statement. Now I have again happened on a great surgeon who did a great job of the operation, but has also given me back my confidence in those matters. You see, I had carried a great fear of having surgery since 1985, when I had my hysterectomy, for some reason I had the fear of dying on the table. I guess that's why I never had this surgery way back in 1997, when I had my first gallbladder attack. Besides, I was convinced by doctors then that it wouldn't be a good idea and that I would have to take the long road back if I did. So, I elected to watch my diet instead, it worked all these years.

So, today is a great day in my life and I have to share it with Bill, he is so good to me. He truly is my special angel!

A Few Days!

Well, I don't have much to say today, I've been sick this past couple of days. Gallbladder attach or real bad case of indigestion, don't know which it was but I still feel bad.  I guess I should be going to a doctor but I always think that it will pass, and usually it does.

Anyway, Bill has to walk Charlie and he's real good about taking care of me.

So, til tomorrow when hopefully I will feel better!

Our Day in Mexico!

Well, this day was an experience and a half!  We took the 10 minute drive to Mexico, parked the truck on the U.S. side of the border in a parking lot run by local Indians. It cost $5 to park. The town, Algodones, is right on the border. In a few block radius, there are so many vendor shops, dentists, and eyeglass shops, and I can't forget pharmacies, that I couldn't begin to count them. We stopped at a sort of town center, with a big outdoor restaurant, some vendors, and musicians playing and singing the whole time.  Bill had a small margarita, and I had a Light Coke. That's what they called a diet coke in Mexico. We also shared a dish of Nachos with cheese, guacamoli and tomatoe. It was good!

The highlight of the day was the lineup of people at the border waiting to cross back into the U.S., we got into line at 3:15 pm and finally got to the car around 5:20 pm. Until this point, we had made no purchases while in Mexico, we just went to look around. Well, there were kids, women, boys, and a mother with her baby all trying to sell us things while waiting in line. I couldn't resist buying a rather large plaster frog, with a red hat, red scarf, a big smile on its face, and the word welcome written along the bottom to put on the ground beside my RV.

All in all, we had a very different but interesting day.

What a beautiful day!

We'll the sun is shinning bright, it's a georgeous day. Charlie and I went for a very long walk in the desert, some places are still wet and mushy if you walk there.  Today, Bill and I will take a drive across the border to Mexico, there's a small town called Algodones, just 6 miles from here.

 

Happy (U.S.) Thanksgiving to All!

What a beautiful day today, a little cooler than normal. We actually had rain last night. This morning when we finally went outside, Charlie and I, we noticed that the rain washed a lot of the sand around. One road we walk on in the desert was washed out, and the path to the desert where we walk was also washed out. An interesting walk this morning to say the least. I think we got all and more of the 2.7 inches of rain per year in one night. And yes, we also had rain the night before, nothing was washed out in the morning after that rain, but last night was a different story. Let's say that some of the landscape looks somewhat different today. I guess that's the desert for you!!

I have created this site in the hopes of sharing my travels and pictures with my friends and family. I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoy taking them.

What a wonderful way to spend my retirement, travelling to some of the most beautiful places in the world, and, sharing the experience with Bill and my dog Charlie.

For those of you who are wondering how the dog is doing, well, Charlie loves the truck, loves watching all the animals, and loves the long walks he gets to go on.
