In the summer of 2005, we offered our luxurious grass yard to our neighbor who was a "front-yard" breeder of paint horses, after all they frequently escaped their small dirt paddock and appeared in our yard to munch the grass anyway. We enjoyed the lawn mowers and the entertainment of 2 mares with foals, and the horses were safer than just roaming free.
Thus began the giant magnetic pull of horse under my skin. The yearling stole my heart that summer, she had a rough start in life with developmental bone disease. The breeder could not get full price with that history, and I did not want to race or show, just wanted to have a relationship with the horse. Hah, so much for what I thought!
That fall when the vet declared her sound I bought "Impressively Plain" aka Phoenix, and boarded her for the winter while planning our new paddock, run-though, and hayshed. Everything exploded from there!
