Welcome

Welcome to the Borrowed Acre Vineyard website! Borrowed Acre Vineyard is the collaborative project and hobby of three Auburn University Mechanical Engineers and college friends. Our purpose is to evaluate the latest commercial and private bred bunch grape, muscadine, blackberry, and raspberry selections for disease resistance and sustainable viticulture in the Southeastern United States. Our specific objective is to promote home grape growing and wine making in Alabama by sharing our experiences with potential interested parties. Here you'll find day-to-day pictures and videos we've taken along the way and sincerely hope you will find our experiences inspirational in your own grape growing & wine making endeavors. Visit regularly to see what's new! Feel free to send an email directly to Charlie at erwincm@gmail.com if you have any specific questions about the BAV project that you do not wish to discuss in this public forum.

Check out the Pictures tab above for vineyard chronology!

Crusher Destemer
Joe & Charlie crushing & desteming Frontenac grapes. The crusher destemer quickly and efficiently separates the grapes from the stems, breaks the grape skins open to allow the juice to flow, and deposits stems and broken berries in separate containers. The crusher destemer is truly a marvel of engineering and perhaps our best investment in terms of tools for productivity.
