Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedachtniskirche

While wandering completely lost, I happened by the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Chuch which was destroyed in WWII. The remains stand imposingly in the middle of a crowded shopping area. The seemless integration of history and modern life is really amazing.

The Sunflower Hostel

This is the hostel the group will stay at for duration of the class. The wall is the wall along the opposite street, covered in graffiti like most of the city. The upside-down dog etc. are among the several varieties of stuffed animals and fake flowers hanging from the ceiling in the common room. Then there is the mural in the laundry room, our dorm and a view behind the building.

The Brandenburg Gate

Here is the gate. The Dali Lama was appearing when we were there, so we couldn't get very close because of the crowds.

The Reichstag

This is the parliment building. The glass dome looks over the city and into the main hall of the parliament.

Alexanderplatz

This area was on the east side of the Berlin Wall. The area is now a major stop for shopping. The picture of the glass building was a person walking down the side.

Podsdamer Platz

This area was destroyed in World War II and left undeveloped before the fall of the wall. Since then, there have been considerable efforts to rebuild as a major global center.

"Holocaust Memorial"

The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, first visitors go to the underground exhibit that displays personal stories of Jews killed in the holocaust, then can wander through the memorial consisting of a field of concrete blocks of various sizes.
