October 3, 2009 at Washington High School

Congratulations to the 2009 BGHS Chess Club Officers:
Captain - Ethan
Captain - Jon
Secretary - Christopher
Treasurer - Anu
There's lots to be done this year for the club, including publicity, STUGO, assemblies, pep rallies, fund raising, tournament organization for the 2 tournaments hosted at BGHS this year, and, of course, just playing chess! The officers cannot do all this by themselves, so helping out with club activities will be everyone's business.
Welcome to all the returning BGHS Chess players, and a special welcome to our new freshmen and also to our new junior Jon! This will be a special year for BGHS Chess, many of the players have worked hard since the 2008 season to improve their chess games. Ethan went to Supernationals/Nashville in June, and Anu, Ethan and Richard went to the Las Vegas International Chess Festival in June. Many of the varsity and junior varsity players also played in local tournaments.
Please check out the calendar which shows our Region II AIA chess schedule for this fall. Details about these tournaments, including transportation, will be provided at Thursday chess meetings, so don't miss any of the meetings!
While there have been some changes in our support staff for 2009, chess instructor Nicolay will be providing chess instruction for 1 hour at the Thursday chess meetings. Nicolay once played and won against Garry Kasperov, so training with him is an experience not to be missed!
Good luck Bulldogs!
