RIP: Steve Adler
Sadly this morning the Seal Beach and Surfside surfing communities are coming to learn that one of their own, surfer/shaper/paddler/all-around good-human Steve Adler has passed. While details of his untimely departure are still forthcoming, the impact that the 41-year-old Surfside local had on people in his brief time with us is evident.

Adler, a career surfboard builder, shared a shaping factory in Westminster, Calif., with fellow craftsman Tim Stamps. Reportedly the two were at the shop together...

Following the demise of KGB Bike Company late last year, no one really knew where owners Martti Kuoppa or Viki Gomez would end up sponsorship wise. Martti seems to be going his own route with Jungle Rider, but we hadn't heard much from Viki since the end of KGB. Until now that is.

Stephanie Gilmore crowned top athlete
World Champion surfer Stephanie Gilmore can add another trophy to her case with her most recent win, the World Action Sportsperson of the Year. Hugh Grant presented Steph with the Laureus World Sports award and sent her to star-athlete status among the world's top athletes. Layne Beachley took home the award in 2006. Defgrip Presents BMX Shorts


This is pretty awesome. Defgrip is teaming up with the Bicycle Film Festival this year to help find, pick and curate the BMX portion of the festival.
