There is a lot of grill on this radio and I was fortunate to find plenty of the original style grill cloth before the big shortage of 2012.

The dial panel has a rich mirrored grain and is set back for better viewing. The radio has continuously variable bass and treble / selectivity along with automatic bass compensation. The sound is certainly rich, but good fidelity can be found with a bit of fiddling.

Here is the RF chassis flanked by the two 6 inch tweeters. The Chassis was in poor shape when I bought it with mouse damage and extensive rust. The decision was made to strip and replate the chassis', which took a lot of time. The result looks good and the radio plays strong and sensitive, down to 1.5uv.

This is the ad for the new sloped face design. The 38-116 shown is one step below the 38-690 on the price list. The 116 sold for $200 while it's big brother went for $395. Quite a bit of cash considering the avg price of a new car was around $700

Features shown of the two top Philcos. I like to collect the advertising that went with my radios whenever possible. It gives a sense of time to the product and a bit of a sense of the American personality of the day. However, I've never seen the use of a woman's "derriere" to sell a product like this before.
