With a stellar team of volunteers, with hundreds of dedicated walkers, and with the kind generosity of donors and sponsors, the WONDERFUL SUCCESS of this very special 2nd annual Beca’s Five became a reality on Saturday, June 25th, 2011 on the scenic trails of Queeny Park.

Please know what a difference EACH & EVERY ONE of you made in this success.

More than anything, we hope this was as rewarding of an experience for you as it was for us.

Throughout her battle with metastatic melanoma, Rebeca “Beca” Campos felt passionately about raising awareness of this aggressive skin cancer, about educating to save lives through proper prevention and detection, about bringing people together at this walk to take these symbolic steps toward a cure, and about providing hope. “Running the Race; Keeping the Faith”.  It has been an honor to carry forward her loving legacy in this way, and we thank you for helping to make her vision a reality.

We hope that you all will walk with us again next year for the 3rd annual Beca’s Five.  Stay tuned for the next SAVE THE DATE!

The vision for the Beca’s Five benefit walk & fun run is that it may serve as a special opportunity where people can gather to, as Beca would say, be aware, take time to share, show that you care. This inspiring young lady envisioned a society where no one else encounters this dangerous diagnosis – a Melanoma FREE generation!  There is no known cure for metastatic melanoma.  However, we know that through awareness and early detection, Metastatic Melanoma Skin Cancer can be prevented.

Continue with us on this journey toward fulfilling and fortifying beautiful Beca’s vision for Blackout Melanoma.

Warmest regards,

From the Beca’s Five team and the Campos Family

On nationally-televised Fox News, Sunday 9/12 at 2pm & 8pm (CT), they ran a special "Winning the War on Cancer" on that very treatment designed by her doctor at the time, Dr. Rosenburg.  Beca was interviewed!

Beca's Five Success and Thank You

On behalf of the Blackout Melanoma Team and Beca’s family, we want to sincerely thank every participant, volunteer, sponsor, and donor of Beca’s Five – you were all vital to this effort.

We raised more than $20,000 and nearly 400 participants took steps together toward a cure for Metastatic Melanoma Skin Cancer.  With these proceeds, we can now realize Beca’s vision of establishing Blackout Melanoma as a charitable foundation.

Please continue to hold in your hearts and minds the tenets of Blackout Melanoma: “Be Aware. Take Time to Share. Show that you Care.”  This movement continues beyond the inaugural Beca’s Five walk.  We know that through awareness and early detection, Metastatic Melanoma Skin cancer can be prevented.  This is only the beginning, ladies and gentlemen.

Together we can educate,

together we can provide hope,

together we can save lives.

Please continue to visit www.becasfive.com or join the Blackout Melanoma Facebook group. We will post links to event pictures, update everyone with the overall progress of the organization, and extend invites to future fun exciting events. Thank you all, so much, for making this possible.  See you next year!
