This trip was totally different than our last in so many ways. The fear we experienced the first time, about where we were going and what we were going to expect,... the food...It was all so much easier. Even leaving our families this time was a little easier. We were so much more confident sharing our cube and sharing God's word. It is amazing how the first trip help us grow in so many ways! We were so much more prepared in everything we did. Our crew this year was wonderful as well. That was another fear of ours was that the people that we were going with wouldn't be as great as the one from our last trip. But they were just as much on fire for God and had the same fever as all of us that have been to Brazil have gotten..That yerning desire to "just go back". These are TRULY the best experiences of our entire life. If you have been before there is no need to explain, and if you have never been before there are no words to explain~!
We were able to provide much needed healthcare to over 500 people just in the clinics alone, not counting the teams that went out providing it while they evangelized. Not sure of the exact number of people who accepted Christ, one because we never know which ones had a true encounter with him...but HE knows and that is all that matters....If only one single person came to know our Jesus because of this trip, then it was ALL worth it!! It is wonderful to go and share about our Jesus to someone that has never heard the story and doesn't "know" or have a relationship with him..to know you went and made a difference in those peoples lives is truly indescribable!!
We were able to go back to the place we were Baptized the first year and see several people that we had met and evangelized to the year before. It was really special to see them, and that they remembered us. Thank You SOOOO much to everyone who supported us, and prayed for us. So many people made this possible!! You all know who you are!!
Everyone has been asking about my Mission Trip to Brazil....I wish there were words to describe it. I can only say it is an experience that I would encourage everyone to take advantage of. It was an experience of a lifetime! I went to go and help others and provide medical blessings to the villages without health care. Little did I know I would receive the biggest blessing of my life. Man God is good! He surrounded us with his presence everyday. I did things I never imagined in a million years I would be doing. Our team saw around 400 people in the clinic. Some had never seen a doctor or pediatrician. Health Care is about 2-3 weeks by canoe for these people. Generally there if you get sick with minor things such as an ear infection, dehydration or tooth abscess you just die.
I saw and treated a man with leprosy and ended up sharing with him the story of the man in the bible that had leprosy and the story of Jesus and led him to the Lord. I thought worldly things were what life was all about and learned that it isn't. It has nothing to do with what you do or what you have. Life is about what you can do for other people. We are selfish people. We live in an environment where life is all about us. For lack of a better phrase, it is a "dog eat dog" world. "Every man for his own". We learn our entire lives to look out for yourself because no one else will. I visited a place where it was not that way at all. Even though we didn't speak the same language, I saw what true compassion and caring for your brothers and sisters was all about. That life isn't all about you. These people had NOTHING, but yet had EVERYTHING. They had the love for one another! I feel like if we all had that mind set the world would be such a better place. It was just AMAZING!
Welcome to our new web site. This site has been created for those of you, who have been asking about how Brazil went. There are truly no words to describe how wonderful this experience was. I hope all of you can experience at least a small portion of this trip through our pictures.
Thanks to all of you that supported, encouraged, and prayed for us.
Tesha,
I am so proud of you for going on this trip. I was a silent prayer partner for you and prayed for you daily on this trip. God answered my prayers in that He gave you a glipmse of His love, wonder, and beauty in the faces and eyes of a people you'd never met. You ARE blessed!!! I well remember my first trip to Brazil and the amazing blessings I received, thinking all the time, that I would be GIVING the blessings!! God worked in my heart, too, and I am forever thankful for my trip down the Amazon!!! I will continue to pray for you as you re-enter the US. There are many things, I know, on your heart and mind right now and I pray you will be able to sift through them in the coming weeks. I bet you have a totally different perspective on Christmas this year, huh? Please know that I would love to sit with you for lunch or an evening and talk about your trip!!!
Much love and continued prayers,
Melody Scott
