Working on Design
Mary Tappouni works with Mark Gelfo, Jeff Stone and John Hall of TLC Engineering and Marc Skarecki of Sunworks Solar Systems on the design of the photovoltaic arrays and HVAC system for the remodel project of the Breaking Ground Contracting corporate office. BGC anticipates this to be a LEED platinum project.

Design Team Working Together
Pictured as part of the Breaking Ground Contracting remodel design team are (left to right) Marie Hurst, Kevin Songer, Michelle Tappouni, Marc Skarecki and Mary Tappouni. Having an integrated design team working together at the same time allows ideas to be presented with all interested parties present for decision-making. Think of all of the phone calls and emails that get saved with such a process!

Checking It Out
The design team makes their way outside to view the exterior of the building. Here you have the owner/contractor, landscape and vegetated roof consultant, mechanical engineer, roofing contractor and interior designer. Wow! That's a lot of problem-solving in one fell swoop!

Charette...working together
Hours into the charette (a fancy word meaning all interested parties working together to discuss design and implementation of the project) everyone is still going strong. Left to right is Mary Tappouni, Tamara Baker, Rick Anderson, Robin Ackerman, Jeff Stone, John Hall and Mark Gelfo.

A roof is NOT a roof...
Landscape and vegetated roof consultant, Kevin Songer (left) talks with roofing contractor Rick Anderson while the remainder of the design team investigates the current spaces at Breaking Ground Contracting. Something tells me this space is going to look QUITE different after the renovation!

LEEDer of the Pack
LEED Facilitator on the project, Ellen Reed, records ideas as the charette team discusses and problem-solves various issues with the project.
