Johnstown Senior High School parking lot on Pearl St and Wright Dr off of Rt 67 (West Main) in Johnstown at 9:30am and leave at 10am and head east on the F J & G rails to trails to Broadalbin, NY and return. on the 6th of September. Ride

My girlfriend and I went on a short ride on the Erie Canal Bikeway with our Raleigh Sprites. We went from Fultonville to Sprakers, New York. We saw some owls under the bridge in Sprakers. Looks like they are always there. On the way back we stopped to look at some ratrod bicycles and the $1000 Caddilac bicycle in the shed on Monk St next to the Rock of Ages barn.  On the eastern side of the old landfill there is an old road that should have a great view of the Mohawk River and the Noses. Big and Little Noses are the rock formations on the river. The old buildings are in Fultonville.

There was only one rider for this outing. I went as far as Canastota and returned. I will save the rest of the trip for another day. The  weather was in the 90's and sunny. I rode my 1970 Raleigh Sprite 27 for this ride. The is Jak's Pizza at Canal St and E Canal St where I stopped for lunch. They have these things called "sweetazzia." Canastota has a few diners in the small downtown area. There were large carp and turtles in the canal. On the way back there were 2 Ospreys, Merlin and a larger hawk or eagle that I could not ID.  On the way home I was able to pick up a brown Raleigh Sports 3 speed.   

As for this month's ride well the only time that I am free to ride is the 16th of August. We will meet at the parking lot on the corner of Minoa Road and Manlius Center Road in Minoa, New York and head east on the Erie Canal Bikeway to Canastota and Durhamville, NY and return. I have traveled half of this route before so it will be the first time for myself to find a proper "pub and grill" in Canastota for us. 

On Tuesday, the 4th of August I went up to Wolfe Island, Canada and traveled for 21 miles through farm lands and wind farms on back roads with my girl friend. The roads on the island were gravel with very little traffic. Wolfe Island is found across from Cape Vincent, NY on the St Lawrence Seaway just north of Lake Ontario.  Leave your car in Cape Vincent and take your bicycle on the car ferry for $2 per person each way. The information desk near the ferry has maps for 3 bicycle rides on the island and one for a 35 mile ride around the Cape Vincent area. Parking is close by and free in Cape Vincent.
In Marysville, Ontario there are a few places to eat. We went to Erine's Cafe where we had a sandwich and beer on their small outside patio. 

 Bring along you passport as you will be traveling into Canada and back.

Why do English Riders hate other types of bicycles? We have to give them a push to keep up with our casual pace.

Legal Beverages??
Jordan Grill, now known as Woody's Pub. Another confusing sign as the have lost their liquor license last year. So, first we go to a grill that does not serve food, then we go to a pub that does not serve beer.  

While this group was being formed, 2 Raleigh 10 speeds were spotted on the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail that go from Adams through Cheshire into Lanesboro, Mass. They were a 1970 Man's Sprite 27 and a 1976 Woman's Sprite. The ride was about 22 miles long going through the Northern Berkshires. On the way back is the perfect place for a 2+ mile gravity race.  Next time start in Lanesboro and have lunch in Adams before heading back. Only thing at the Lanesboro end is a cement plant and a shopping mall. Afterwards drive over to Shelburne Falls for a look at the Bridge of Flowers. There are alot of other sites along the Mohawk Trail (Route 2.)
