Photography novice

As you can tell by the way my pics look I am a novice when it comes to photography. I own an Olympus E-420 with the standard 14-42mm kits lens, I also have the 40-150mm telephoto lens. I've come to love taking photographs just because there are so many ways you could display your photos. With an d-slr camera or any camera for that matter you can turn a picture into a photograph and I think that's the attraction. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

   Thanks, Bryant

Life in Flint Michigan

I grew up in Flint MI, a place that has a reputation of being one of the worst places to live in the United States. If you talk statistics according to the top 10% of the country's most wealthy, then yes it is the worst place to live in the United States. It is a place that at times has been one of the wealthiest (per capita income) cities in the U.S., but those days are long gone. I remember growing up, General Motors had 12 manufacturing plants in the city limits, today there are 3. The population at one time was above 220,000 people, today that number stands at the low 100,000's. If you drive around the city on a daily basis like I do, you would see an enormis amount of abonded houses, businesses, vacant lots where GM once had massive plants. The one thing that Flint has that not a-lot of other cities have is a tremendous amount of people who have decided to stay in this area and show their character in the way of developing young people, mentoring, volunteering and just not giving up and leaving like so many people have. While Flint will never be the manufacturing powerhouse that it once was, it will always be a place to learn about the power of people, come to Flint and go to one of the many local coney island resturants, go to the Mcdonalds on Dort HWY go to the Cultural Center and there you will see what people that care can do for a city that has been called the worst place to live in America.
