New this year! New registration policies have been implemented for 2012. In addition, all BCSC families will be asked to work a specified number of jobs during the season or pay a $125 volunteer fee. Please see the information below for details on 2012 registration and the volunteer fee.
Limited space is available on the swim teams. Families are encouraged to register early. Space on both the Penguins and Stingers teams is subject to availability and the Burke Centre Swim Club will close registration once capacity is reached. In addition, if capacity is reached in a specific age group, registrations for swimmers in that age group may be closed. It is difficult to say when the teams or age groups will reach swimmer capacity, so please register early. Once registration is closed, a wait list will be started. Preference on the wait list will be given to Burke Centre residents and returning swim team families. If you have a financial concern that prevents you from registering early, please contact Mary Mulvenon, BCSC President at mhmulvenon@verizon.net.
Cost: The cost for early bird registration (register by April 30, 2012) is $105 per swimmer for the first two swimmers and $80 for each additional swimmer. Registrations completed after April 30, 2012 will automatically be charged an additional $30 late fee per family. In addition, swimmers must be members of the Burke Centre pools to participate on the swim team.
Volunteer Fee: New this year, there will be a volunteer fee. All BCSC families (both Stingers and Penguins) will be required to work 6-8 jobs during the swim season or pay a volunteer fee of $125. The specific number of jobs required will be determined in May and will be based on the number of families registered and the meet schedule. You will have the option during registration to pay the $125 fee up front and not work the required jobs. However, if your family chooses to fulfill your volunteer requirement, no additional money will be assessed during registration. Each family must submit a check made out to the Burke Centre Swim Club in the amount of $125 by June 8, 2012. A table will be set up at swim practice from Tuesday, May 29 until Friday, June 8 where payments can be made. If payment has not been received by June 8, your child will not be allowed to participate in further swim team events, including practice, until payment has been received. Checks will only be cashed if the volunteer requirements are not met by the end of the season party on July 29, 2012. For more details on the volunteer fee, please go to the VOLUNTEER tab.
New swimmer evaluations: All new swimmers ages 10 and under (including siblings that have not previously participated on the team) will be required to pass a swim evaluation. The Stingers evaluations will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 4-7pm at the Commons Pool. Swimmers will be evaluated to ensure that they meet the Red Cross Level III performance criteria. To join the swim teams, swimmers must be able to swim 15 yards (front and back) and float and tread water for 30 seconds. Swimmers do not need to know all competitive strokes. If your child does not pass the evaluation, you will receive a full refund of registration fees.
June 22, 2012: Last day to request refunds: All refund requests must be made in writing (e-mail is acceptable) to the respective team president by June 22, 2012. No refunds will be given after June 22, 2012. If a swimmer withdraws from the team for a reason not related to the swimmer evaluation, you will receive the registration fee minus a $10 non-refundable processing fee. Full registration fees will be refunded to swimmers who do not pass the evaluation.
