Bushwood/NCGA Membership Renewal

The NCGA began their annual fall renewal period Monday, October 1st. There is no change to dues for this year.  Renewal fees remain $65 ($67.50 by Paypal) and it will allow you to avoid any further annoying reminders which will now be going out every hour on the hour.  The deadline for renewal is December 15th, but why wait?  If you already know for sure you are not going to renew your membership, please give me the courtesy of letting me know, just so that I can take you off the list.  Also, if you have any feedback on ways we can improve the club and/or how we can increase participation at our monthly events, I'm also interested in hearing from you.

If you already have NCGA membership through another club and only need Bushwood membership to participate in our monthly outings and to compete for the club championship, then annual dues remain unchanged at $30.

If you're interested in saving money on your membership, I'm offering a $5 discount off your membership dues for every new member that you recruit, once they have paid.  So, see below for new member information.  Share that with your friends and family and make sure they mention your name when they sign up and I'll deduct that from your membership dues or you can use it as a credit against an event in 2013.

For new membersthey can join now, and receive the remainder of 2012 free with their paid 2013 membership.  So, if you know of anyone, friends or family, that have been thinking about joining Bushwood/getting their NCGA membership, now is a great time.  They'll get all the benefits of NCGA membership, essentially for free, for the remainder of the year.   So, what do new members need to do?  Price for a new member is $75 (renewals thereafter will be $65).  That will cover their membership in both the NCGA and Bushwood through the end of 2013.  All checks should be made out to me (Dan Parnas) and sent to 155 Lawnview Circle, Danville, CA 94526.  Included with the check should be the person's mailing address, e-mail address, phone # and ghin#, if they previously had one.  If you want to pay by Paypal, the price is $77.50 to cover the transaction fee and direct payment to dparnas@yahoo.com .  Just forward this e-mail to your friends, and let them know they can click on the link at the bottom to see our club website, which should provide most of the information they might want about the club and membership.

Hiddenbrooke (April) final deadline this Friday - season ending event added

For April, we're heading back out to Hiddenbrooke in Vallejo, one of my favorite courses and always a great early season course due to their great drainage. We'll be playing there on Sunday, April 15th, teeing off at 10:00 am. Price for this event is $90 and includes golf, cart, range balls and prizes. Final payment deadline is this coming Friday, March 23rd.

The May event at San Juan Oaks has been moved up by one week to Sunday, May 6th, teeing off at 10:20. The original date was Mothers Day weekend, which would create conflicts for many people. Price for this event is $85 and includes golf, cart and prizes. You can save $5 off that price by paying by the early deadline, which is Friday, March 30th. Final payment deadline is Friday, April 13th.

Just booked the end of season event and got a great deal. We will be playing on Saturday, October 13th, teeing off at 11:33 at Eagle Vines Golf Club in Napa. Price for this event is $94 and includes not only golf, cart, range balls and prizes, but also a lunch of sandwich or polish, chips, soda or domestic beer. And, because this is the season ending event, we will be having the end of season party in the clubhouse after with free drinks and food as well. Should be a great venue to close out the season and hopefully have a dramatic finish to the club championship race.

For all payments, checks should be made out to me (Dan Parnas) and sent to 155 Lawnview Circle, Danville, CA 94526. If paying by Paypal, please add $2.50 for the transaction fee and direct payment to dparnas@yahoo.com . Guests are allowed to play in all events, from the beginning. First come, first serve. If you have a guest that you want to bring along, their pricing is $5 less than yours because they are not contributing to the prize fund and will not be participating in any of the competitions. The better solution there is to have your guest join the club at the same time, we can always use more members.

Kicking off the 2012 Bushwood Season

Happy new year everyone.  We're going to kick off the 2012 season at Poppy Ridge in Livermore this year on Sunday, March 4th, teeing off at 9:00 am.  Cost for this event will be $94 and includes golf, cart, prizes & choice of hot dog or hamburger, chips & a soda.  You can save $5 off that price though by paying by the early payment deadline, which is just over 3 weeks from today, Friday January 27th.  Otherwise, the final payment deadline is Friday, February 10th.  Sorry the deadlines are a little early, but both Poppy Hills and Poppy Ridge require payment well in advance.

Still a few spots available for Mare Island...

Still a few spots open for the May 15th event at Mare Island, so I can extend the deadline through the end of this week if anyone is interested, or if you have a guest you want to bring along.  Also, it's a good time to get in on Presidio and save $5 by getting your payment in by the May 7th early payment deadline.

For the May event, we'll be playing one of my personal favorites and what I think is one of the best bargains/undiscovered gems of the bay area, Mare Island http://www.mareislandgolfclub.com/golf/proto/mareislandgolfclub/ .   I moved that up by one day to Saturday, May 15th, with an earlier start time of 8:30 am, which is the reason for the slight price increase.   Cost for this event will be $75 and includes golf, cart, prizes and range balls.  The final payment deadline has been extended to this Friday, April 30th.

For the June event, we're going with the Presidio on Saturday the 12th teeing off at 1:00 pm.  Price for that event is $90, including range balls and each player will receive a voucher for a free round at Presidio within 30 days of the event on a Monday-Thursday, any time of day.   You can save $5 off the price if paying by the early deadline, which is Friday, May 7th with the final payment deadline of Friday, May 21st.

Score Posting Confusion?!?!?!?

If you have scores that need to be posted, click here to go to the GHIN website and you can post your score on line. Post your score

The Handicap system is based upon the honor system. Everyone is required to post all of their scores accurately.

Some people are not clear on what it means to have an adjusted score. An adjusted score is based upon the equitable stroke control. See the explanation below.

Based upon the following grid, if you have any scores that fall above the maximum allowable score for you on any hole, then you are required to subtract however many strokes will bring you down to your maximum for each hole. Once you have adjusted down all of your scores for that round, you have arrived at your adjusted score for that round that you then should post. Now don't try and understand why the rule doesn't take into account the difference between a par 5 and a par 3, that is just the rule whether it makes sense or not.

Course Handicap    Maximum Score on hole
9.9 or less    Double Bogey
10-19.9   7
20-29.9   8
30-39.9   9
40 or more   10

So, for an example. Say I have a handicap of 6.9 and I am playing on a course with a slope of 127. You consult the Slope Rating tables that should be located on the wall by the posting computer and it should tell you that I have a course handicap of 8. Therefore, on that course, from that set of tees, the highest score I can take for posting purposes is a double bogey. Now that doesn't mean I can't take a score higher than a double bogey, that just means that when I go to post my score, I will be adjusting any holes where I scored higher than a double bogey. In tournaments, your score is always your gross score. Adjusting of scores should always happen only when it comes time to post.

So, say that in my round, I have a gross score of an 82. But, I take a 7 on a par 4 and an 8 on a par 5. That means that I need to adjust down the 7 to a 6 and the 8 to a 7, both then being double bogeys instead of triple bogeys. That is a total of 2 strokes that should be adjusted prior to posting. Therefore, my adjusted gross score is an 80 and that is the score I should post.

Early payment deadline for Poppy Hills, still time to get in on Shadow Lakes event in September

I’m extending the final deadline on Shadow Lakes, as we could still use more players and the course is giving us some time.  Also, if you want to save $5 on the season ending event at Poppy Hills, the early payment deadline is this coming Friday.

For September we’ll be playing Shadow Lakes Golf Club http://golfinbrentwood.com/golf/proto/golfinbrentwood/course/course.htm in Brentwood on Sunday, the 20th at 9:00 am.  We got another great rate for this event at $65, including golf, cart and prizes.  Final payment deadline has been extended to Friday, September 4th.

And we’ll be wrapping up the 2009 season in October at Poppy Hills http://www.poppyhillsgolf.com/ on Sunday, October 18th at 10:30 am, which will include our regular end of season open bar and food on the club attraction.  Price for that event is $107 and includes golf, cart and prizes in addition to the end of season feeding frenzy.  You can save $5 off that amount by paying by the early payment deadline, which is Friday, August 28th.  The final payment deadline is Friday, September 11th.
