We are so glad you decided to visit our site and hope you will "sit & stay" long enough to enjoy some of my favorite pics of my 4 legged family members. Animals are great companions and we can learn a lot from them. Click on an album below to view more pictures. Don't forget to visit my new page, "Take Me Home", dedicated to homeless animals. Just click on the tab at the top of this page. And if you have time click on the link to TailWaggers and visit Bella Hope's page to read about her happy ending.
The ButtWaggers

Bathtime at our place is so enjoyable the dogs just line up to be next :)
We offer boarding for the pets of people who go on vacation so that while you are on vacation your precious dog will be on his own vacation. He'll be loved and cared for like one of our own and have a blast so don't be surprised if he's tired when he goes home. We will also offer bathing for medium and large dogs during the warmer months. Our rates are reasonable so give us a call 903-922-0156.

Chrissy, Bones & Frankie
Bones is so funny as I was taking pictures of the kids before the game he just casually walked over and positioned himself between them as if to say "I'm ready". Does he know he's a pet and not another of my children? 2008-09-27

Bones & Honey
They are so cooperative with my picture taking. Bones is almost 4 and Honey is 6 months. 2008-09-27

Honey starts school to enhance children's desire to read. 2008-08-12

Bones 3 1/2 yrs
Bones just chillin on the lush front lawn. He loves to step out of the house on sunny days and sun himself. Because of his amazing ability to fly (gracefully jump) over fences we keep him as a house dog for his own safety from traffic, cayotes, people with guns. He's the biggest baby in the family (and I have a 5 year old child). 2008-05-03

Bones & Frankie
Bones is our "GENTLE GIANT" and we love him dearly! Most of the time you don't even know there's a dog in the house (when it's just him) 2006-10-30

Sugar 5 months
Sugar 5 Months old 2006-11-11. I've had a really hard time training Sugar because she already acquired bad habits before I got her at this late age. It's not so much the age as it was the bad habits. But we're not giving up on our precious little loveable Sugar Cookie. She has so much potential.

Jake 10
Jake is my beautiful red tri Australian Shepherd. He is 12 yrs old and just as spry as a pup due to top quality food, love and vet care. If you're interested in owning a beautiful Aussie give me a call and apply to reserve 903-922-0156. They will only go to suitable homes. If the breeding goes well pups should be born in March and ready for new homes 8 wks after that. These will be amazing dogs with the proper care and training.

Sugar & Frankie
An every day sight at our house. Kids lounging/playing with the dogs. Pets are so great for kids and kids for pets (as long as the children are taught the proper way to play with and care for their pets). Pet peave of mine is parents who think everything their child does is adorable - even abusing the family pet. Children should learn early the proper way to treat their animals. 2008-04-26

Chrissy 10 with Honey
Honey is only about 2 months old in this picture and already knows how to fetch the newspaper. I'm tellin' you, Aussies are AWESOME! I'm constantly thinking up new stuff/tricks to teach her. She thrives on it and can't wait to learn new stuff. 2008-06-13

Sleepy Head Honey
This picture speaks for itself. Honey is so irresistable it drives Chrissy nuts that she doesn't like snuggling. If you try to snuggle her she gets up and moves to the foot of the bed. Chrissy is a snuggler like Bones. 2008-06-13

Bones & Honey
After playing on Chrissy's bed they stopped to pose for this picture. 2008-07-01

Big Baby Bones
Chrissy was unaware of me taking this picture until later on. 2007-09-30 Now this is a dog who loves to cuddle!

Chrissy snuggles Bones
Bones has got to be the biggest snuggler I've ever seen. He never tires or gets uncomfortable with someone's arms around him. He'll actually sleep in Chrissy's arms all night long. 2007-09-30

Happy Trails
I love everything about this picture. Little brother looking up and holding the hand of big sister as they walk the road of life together with their faithful friend, Shep. I took it as we were walking away from a child's birthday party where Shep was enjoyed by all the guests. What a great memory of the special occassion. 2007-05-04

Teamwork
Honey is currently 21 months old and since I now have my son's Golden Retriever, Happy, I've decided to work him into the Therapy Dog Training to assist Honey. Honey loves to perform but she is quite leary of adult strangers and would prefer that they didn't get too close or pet her. She usually backs away unless I request her to get closer. She is absolutely wonderful with children and could care less how many surround her, pet her or hug her because she doesn't see them as a threat but the adults who tower over her, staring her in the eyes and leaning forward to pet make her uneasy (I don't blame her). These are all threatening signals in the dog world. For this reason I've decided not to make her do anything she is not comfortable with. It's not unusual for Aussies to favor their families and not trust strangers. For this I am glad because I can allow my children to play in the front yard under her watchful eye and not even the UPS man can come around without her sounding off to alarm us of an approaching stranger. She sometimes even designates herself as the guardian of the children she is in a group setting with. When outsiders approach I notice she keeps a watchful eye on them. She will still do her tricks and perform but Happy will come along for the socializing and petting. He approaches everyone with a full wag of his tail and eagerness to meet as many people of all sizes as possible. I think the Golden Retriever motto should be "Don't worry, be happy!"
Upcoming Performance
At one year and one month of age Honey's current knowledge of words, tricks and commands is at a total of 54. Her most recent trick, in preparation for a dance performance, is side stepping. Now all I have to do is get some rythm in these bones of mine and courage to do it with her and of course I need to choreograph her tricks and moves to the rythm of the music. No problem, right? I don't know about this. Oh, Honey will do just fine, it's me I'm worried about. Any words of encouragement will be appreciated.
Our next venture...
Honey is currently 10 months old and knows 37 tricks/commands. I've been thinking about this next idea almost since I got her. Originally I was hoping it would be something I could get my 11 year old to do with Honey because it would be sooo much cuter - but she doesn't seem to be very interested in it any more so I might just try it myself. Dancing with Honey. She already knows so many moves/tricks that it would only be the task of getting me to have the courage and rythm and being able to choreograph the tricks with music and add a few more steps (like side stepping). The biggest thing for me is having the courage but I know Honey will help me with that. With a dog like that "No one will be focused on my blunders".
Personality changes
As Honey gets closer to a year old (currently 9 months) I can't help but notice her protective instincts are becoming more prevalent. She has also been backing away from strangers as they reach to pet her.

Although I've always been aware of the characteristics of this awesome breed of dog I hope to work thru some of it by early training and socialization. I still hope to work thru these aspects of her personality but might have to stop the visitations until she's comfortable with strangers approaching once again. She has also become more vocal (when she gets excited or wants to perform) which is something I do not accept during visits at nursing homes unless I give the command. Because she is a young dog/pup I may just start the therapy training with another of my pets and just let Honey be an active/hyper/fun loving dog until she gets older and settles down on her own.
I'd never want to break any dog's spirit but only mold them into a great companion and enjoyable pet. But whatever I decide, she will always be happy to perform her tricks for folks and small audiences wherever we go. It's one of the things that puts the sparkle in her eyes and perks her ears.
Silly Puppy!
The other day Chrissy and I were having a frisbee flying good time and training session with our Aussies until it started to rain. We walked to the porch and waited for Honey and Handsome to join us. They were in no hurry as they finished some outside business and slowly made their way, walking in the rain, down the sidewalk towards the front porch. As they walked they lapped up the puddles of water along the sidewalk. Suddenly Handsome was stopped in his tracks and didn't seem to know why he couldn't move forward or retract his tongue into his mouth. Chrissy and I had a good laugh watching him as he stood there stepping on his own tongue for several seconds. Too bad I didn't have my camera in hand at that moment.
HONEY'S LATEST TRICK
The other morning I was teaching Honey how to open the frig and get a beverage and take it to my husband. She learned the trick in one morning with only a couple of glitches to perfect. One being the direction she pulls the door each time so that it swings open to the side the door hinges are on. When I was on the computer a while ago the kids told me that she had gone (on her own without any request) to the refrigerator and gotten a beverage and taken it to my husband who was sitting on the couch watching a football game at the time. Then she brought him another and another (that's the other glitch to perfect). Either we need to get her to stop bringing the beverages or we need to have guests over to help drink them all. She is only 6 months old now and I think she has finally won my husband over. As for me, I love her to death! She keeps me laughing.

That's one smart PUPPY!
Dog safety tips at Northside
Honey is such a character! As I began to talk to the school children about dog safety Honey looked up at me with those beautiful eyes of hers as if to say "I thought we were here to show them my tricks". As I continued to talk about the 3 safety tips around strange dogs Honey let out a
huge sigh and flopped down on her side - in her napping position - as if she was trying to tell me she was bored out of her mind

(and the children probably were also). Because of her AWESOME AUSSIE personality she actually helped me remember not to talk too much and kept the program/presentation from being boring.
She was great! When I announced that it was time for Honey to do some tricks she
immediately sprung to her feet, ears perked and

eyes all a sparkle with her tongue hanging out the side of her mouth! This is one special pup! No doubt about that! I'm not used to speaking in front of a crowd and Honey helped me so much!
Honey in the News

Therapy with Honey the Dog. It's in Monday's September 29, 2008 issue in
Neighbors section (or local news), article by Cheril Vernon. Honey has also been to another local school for an introduction to teach children simple safety around dogs. Hopefully we can share some knowledge and prevent children from dog bites/attacks.
Honey was a hit with the kids!
If you're feeling sad or blue - call HONEY to the rescue!
Kindergardners crying & missing their Moms, strangers among us, making new friends and trying to fit in. All I could think is, Honey could sure help some of these kids with the transitions they're going thru. I hope they give her a chance.
Doggy Instincts
As I was taking my children to school on the first day, reminiscing in my mind all the first school days for each of them and thinking about how much I would miss them, the tears started to whell-up in my eyes. As Honey rode, in her usual spot with her front paws on the console between the two front seats and always watching where we're going, she gently nuzzled my cheek and eventually licked the tears as they rolled down my face. I was wearing sunglasses so no one else knew that I was upset. But Honey did.
ButtWaggers
The title "ButtWagger" came from a term Chrissy used when we returned home and Honey approached her so excited that her butt was wagging (since she doesn't have a tail). Chrissy calls her the little ButtWagger.
Some ask why...
I'm doing this. Well, I was looking at my 17 yr old moving out and my 5 yr old starting school all in the same year. This meant that for the first time in 21 years my house and my arms would be empty during school hours. As a stay-at-home Mother of 5 wonderful children (ages 5 to 21) I found myself in need of therapy and something to do to keep me occupied. I worked outside the home up till my oldest child (now 21) was almost 2 yrs old because I had to. He had medical conditions and my government job provided great insurance to cover it.
People kept asking me what I was going to do when the youngest starts kindergarden. I still have 3 children at home (in school) and knew I didn't want the demands that go with getting a job and being on someone elses schedule and demands therefore having to put my family on the back burner. I steered my thoughts towards volunteer work. Something to help others.
I love the feeling of giving. And since I was in a state of depression myself I knew whatever I was going to do it would have to give me great joy or I'd get burned out and remain in a state of sadness. I've always loved animals and have had dogs my entire life. I also love elderly and children. I was remembering that when my youngest daughter was only 3 months old I was hospitalized (for pancreatitus) for a week and very sick and sad to be away from my new baby and the rest of the family. The highlight of my hospital stay was when the people with therapy dogs came (one day). For the time that soft, furry, happy tail wagging dog jumped on my hospital bed and smiled at me I had forgotten the pain I was in and the saddness in my heart (from missing my family) was lessened. It's true what they say about pets/dogs. They improve your quality of life in so many ways. So here I am, trying to share the love and joy of those wonderful, furry, four-legged friends with others. Hopefully Honey can help the young and old alike and bring a little sunshine where things seem dreery and also help encourage kids to read.
Honey is only 5 months old now, knows 29 commands and is doing amazingly well with her therapy training. I hope this will be a long and successful journey together.
Honey goes to school!
As most of you already know, Honey has been visiting and performing at area nursing homes and they love her but when school starts back up she will also be visiting with the kids at Neches Elementary as their therapy reading dog. This is a great program for the kids to enhance their interest in reading and therefore increasing their reading skills and comprehension. Go Honey!
Australian Shepherds
All dogs are great but Aussies are AWESOME!
The above picture is Tristen. He is a 5 year old neutered male who loves affection. He knows sit, stay and shake and is very smart and eager to please. He is very well mannered. Possible breed is Alaskan Malamute, Australian Shepherd mix with the heart of a Golden Retriever. I am currently fostering him because the owner is away for weeks at a time and cannot care for him any more. We hope to find Tristen the kind of home with a family to love him and he can run and play in a safe environment and have his doggie dreams fulfilled. If you are interested and know you can take care of him for life please call 903-922-0156. We are located in Palestine, TX. Tristen is just waiting to go home with the right person. See more pictures of Tristen below.
