The Camera Club of Oxford Greens is open to any resident of Oxford Greens. We meet twice monthly through out the year. One meeting includes judging of member photographs on assigned subjects or open category as well as a business portion. The second meeting is generally devoted to member education. December Activities
Holiday Party...
Thanks to Rick Raskopf and his helpers, our annual holiday party was a huge success. It was held Dec 7 at the Ridge Club. Fresh greens and while lights decorated the ballroom. Food was provided by Antonio's of Woodbridge and they did a wonderful job. Singing holiday songs, enjoying a visit from Santa and Mrs Claus, and the special camaraderie, which is always present with this group, completed the evening.
November Activities.
Due to power outages from late October's snow storm, the Camera Club of Oxford Greens met just once on November 16th. Members submitted photos in the open print and digital categories as well as in digital creative and digital black and white. Photos are displayed below.
October Activities
Wednesday, Oct 5th, Bob Harrington spoke to us about off-camera flash photography. His camera was connected to a projector and as he demonstrated various techniques taking photos of his model, we were able to see the results on the screen. It was a wonderful learning experience.
Bob shared his knowledge as well as his great sense of humor and he had a very appreciative audience!

As Good as it Gets!!!
On Monday, September 19th, 32 members and friends of the Camera Club of Oxford Greens headed to Newport, RI. Thanks to members, Betty and Ken Saco, and trip chairman Doug Bartel, a busy day was planned. First we visited
Onne van der Wal's studio on Bannister's Wharf and the Ave of the Americas. Onne shared some of his expert advice on marine photography preparing us for our 4:30 sunset sail on three classic 12 meter sail boats. We enjoyed his talk and the opportunity to browse the fabulous photos in his gallery.
The weather was perfect at 4:30 PM when we boarded Weatherly, American Eagle and Nefertiti for a harbor sunset sail. It was amazing. It can only be appreciated through the photos taken. We are afterall, a camera club! Please look at our
blog.After the sail, we headed off to the Pier for dinner. We enthusiastically shared our thoughts, discussed our photos and what we learned and asked,"Can we do this again next year?" over good food and libations!
The following day members were on their own. Many chose to walk the cliff walk and visit a mansion or two. Others shopped. Eventually all headed home anxious to view their photos and share their experience with family and friends.
September Activities
Thanks to all the members who worked so hard on producing the Photo Show as well as producing their prints for display, the September 10 and 11th event was a big success. 144 photos were exhibited by 31 members. John Signarelli provided delightful background music with his guitar
and the raffle baskets drew almost as many "oohs" and "aahs" as the photos! Please see pictures of the event below.

Several members attended the NECCC conference in Amherst in July and found it to be a rewarding experience.
Members are busy sorting photos to find up to 5 they would like to submit for display in the September photo show and also planning for the field trip to Newport on September 19th!
July Activities
July 6th a still life photography hands-on workshop was presented for members. Stations with various lightening set-ups were around the room and members moved from station to station arranging object and using various settings on their cameras. Off camera flash, studio lighting and multiple flash set ups were tested. Judging from phrases heard like,"So that is how you change the amount of light!" or "How do I get rid of that reflection?" or "Why aren't the kernels on the ear of corn sharp," lots of learning was going on.

June Activities
The educational meeting was held June 1st with Len and Phyllis Acuzzo, Frank Pouyat and Carolyn Bottomley holding mini Photo Elements workshops.

The annual barbeque was held at the golf club tent June 10th. Diavid Liang did a wonderful job organizing the event and a wonderful time was had by the 50 attendees!
May Activities
Phyllis and Len Acuzzo presented a well received HDR workshop for the membership at the May 4th meeting. The slide presentation can be viewed at

Jim Warner hosted a 'still life" workshop at his home May 13th. Flowers, fruit, veggies, and sculptures workstations were set up. Participants experimented with natural lighting, dual flashes, pro lights and various camera settings. Many thanks to Fran Barr for sharing his expertise at this very successful mini-class!
The May 18th meeting photo review produced winners in 5 categories as judged by members of the Flagpole Camera Club. The themes for May were Spring and Creative! Please see photos below
April Meetings
April 13th brought NECCC's Black and White Prints with recorded commentary from NECCC judge David Charbonnet to the Oxford Greens Camera Club. Club members felt the meeting was enjoyable and members learned lots! CCOOG members chose the same photos for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place that David did! We look forward to participating in 2012 as well.
On April 20, exhibition night, Fran Bar joined excellent judges Ann and Frank from Flagpole Camera Club to score photos in the following categories: Open Prints, Black and White Prints, Digital Open, Digital Theme-At the Mall and At the Zoo, Digital Black and White, and Digital Open. Blue Ribbon!
Congratulations to CCOOG for earning a blue ribbon in the NECCC Spring Competition! The four entries submitted in the black and white print category scored highest of all the clubs represented in this regional competition. February Activities
The monthly educational meeting took place on February 23. Members brought cameras and laptops and participated in activities led by John Munno, designed to enhance their knowledge of the start to finish journey of any one photo. Decisions made before the shutter is pressed to the final output whether it be the web, an email or a print, were looked at. Our Photo Review was held Jan 19th. Photos were entered into three categories: Digital Open, Digital Theme Holiday Decorations, and Prints Open. Our educational meeting was held Jan 5 with 20 members in attendance. John Munno presented on image resizing. This complicated topic included information on several ways to resize both document sizes for printing and pixel dimensions for viewing on the Internet and emailing photos for various purposes. Thank goodness for Adobe's Image Resize and Save for Web menu choices! John's excellent presentation is available for viewing at

November Activities.
A new exhibit wall was added opposite the "Wall of Fame" at the Ridge Club. New lighting was installed to illuminate the photo exhibit walls. High scoring photos from club photo reviews will be selected and hung as usual. The remaining spaces will be filled each month by members (selected alphabetically) who will chose one of their favorite photos for the wall.

5 members of the Camera Club enjoyed an excellent presentation by Rick Sammons on HDR photography at UCONN on Nov. 14. Phyllis and Len Acuzzo will conduct a workshop on HDR for the club at a later date.

Oxford Cultural Arts Exhibit
The Camera Club of Oxford Greens was chosen to fill one of the 12 artists' spots in the first annual Oxford Cultural Arts Commission Show September 25th and 26th at Town Hall. !6 of our members had a photo displayed.
Many members attended the lovely reception on Friday evening, Sept. 24th. We enjoyed viewing the works of other local artists and appreciated the positive comments we heard about our entries. Photos of the exhibit are posted at

Infrared Photography
After hearing Bill Barnett speak on infrared photography at the NECCC conference in August, attending members of the CCOOG agreed it would be wonderful if Bill would speak to the entire membership. Bill graciously agreed and presented his program at the Ridge Club on September 22nd to a very appreciative audience. Bill told us what infrared photography is, what kind of equipment is needed and where to get it, and how to edit after the fact. The presentation ended with a wonderful presentation of Bill's infrared photography. See his notes here.

June Activities

On June 16th, Mike Coville presented an outstanding talk on 'Exposure." Mike explained to the attending members why setting the camera on manual and taking control of the aperture, shutterspeed and ISO settings of your camera can result in superior photos. He instructed members how the camera settings worked together and how to use them to the best advantage.
CCOOG members also did some traveling this month. Wonderful photos are sure to follow. Mike went on a safari in Africa, Phyllis and Len went to Yellowstone with the New Haven Camera Club, Joe Bielanos visited the Canadian Rockies and Dog Bartell went to Pebble Beach to see the US Open.

May 16th meeting: Fred Ortoli, professional photographer, spoke to membership about macro photography. We will have the opportunity to practice what we learned while taking photos for June 3rd meeting when the theme is "macro.

April Meetings
On April 7th, the Camera Club met for its first competetion since November of 2009. Guest judges, Art Yost, and Lisa and Tom Cuchara, members of the New Haven Camera Club, shared their expertise while scoring the photos members had entered into the review. The categories were "Open," and "People." Winning photos are posted below as well as at http://ccoog.blogspot.com where members share some information about the photos.
On April 21, John Munno and Fran Barr presented information about DSLR cameras and lens to the membership. In addition, members brought their cameras to the meeting where more experienced members answered questions and helped less experienced members learn about their cameras.

Year's Photo Review Scores
Frank Pouyat kept track of submissions and scores for photo reviews which the CCOOG held June through November. In 2010, plans are to award "Best of the Year" for photos in several categories chosen from the top scoring photos.
This year, the scoring for the photos has been very close. Members are learning more and more about both how to judge and how to take better photographs.

CCOOG Does Well in CAP Competition
CAMERA CLUB OF OXFORD GREENS
The CCOOG competed in the Connecticut Association of Photographers competition. Our Oxford Greens Camera Club placed 5th in the Print club category and ninth in the Digital club category. Jim Warner received an individual Award of Merit for his Print entitled, “Daddy’s Home.” This was the highest place awarded to any of our twelve participants.
We are very proud of our accomplishment in competition with the other Connecticut Clubs for the first time. This is only our third year since we organized in 2006.
Jim Warner accepted his award at the Crowne Plaza Saturday, November 21, 2009 where the results were announced. Jim and Don Barry attended the Dinner with their spouses. Congratulations Jim and the other 11 members who participated in the competition.

Judging Photographs in Competition
Frank Gardner of the Candlewood Camera Club made an excellent presentation on Wednesday evening, October 28, to 23 members of the Camera Club of Oxford Greens on judging photographs. His handouts included "Guidelines for Better Photography" as well as "Guidelines for Judging at Photo Clubs." Frank showed several prints which had been judged previously and the group discussed why the photos were scored as they were. It was emphasized that judging photos' main purpose is helping the person submitting the photograph, become a better photographer.
Annual Photo Exhibition
The Camera Club of Oxford Greens held its annual exhibition on October 17 and 18, 2009. By all accounts, it was a very successful exhibition. 113 photographs by 21 members were on display. Professional portrait taking was available for anyone interested and many took advantage of the opportunity. Proceeds benefitted the club. Visitors to the exhibit were also able to purchase note cards featuring photographs taken by club members.Proceeds also to benefitted the club.
