Activity Descriptions:

Animal Farm

Sing with me, “Wyomoco has a farm, e-i-e-i-o!”  And on its farm it has cows, chickens, ducks, rabbits and more!!  Learn how to care, feed and enjoy the animals in our petting zoo like atmosphere.  If you’re more than an average animal lover our Wyomoco staff is very capable of assisting you with show techniques for the next County Fair competition!

Archery

At Wyomoco, every camper has the chance to become the next Robin Hood. Using our newly constructed archery range and new bows our archers can work their way through skill levels to reach the title of Master Bowman! Our new program is part of the Junior Olympic Archery Development system. Archers will learn first and foremost safety and skill with the help of an expert archer. Don’t be surprised when picking up your camper if they ask you to take them immediately to Sherwood Forest!

Arts and Crafts

Van Gogh would be Van Gone if he were to participate in our Arts & Crafts Program!  Create finished works of art by learning new drawing and painting skills and techniques.  Try your hand at a variety of crafts, some with Native American origins and others using contemporary materials and designs.  It’s fun, it’s creative, and it’s Wyomoco Arts & Crafts!!

Basketball

On our newly improved basketball courtcampers at the beginner level will learn the fundamentals of basketball while our intermediate skill level campers work toward improving their ball handling, shooting and passing techniques. This is all coupled with plenty of time playing the game itself! Emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship is stressed as it is with all Wyomoco athletic programs. You might not see NBA scouts but word has it that they hide in the trees surrounding the court, so be sure to show them your best stuff!

Beach Volleyball

We’re not in Daytona but when you’re on our new sand beach volleyball court you won’t know the difference! Using Wyomoco rules we play with six campers to a team. Campers will learn the rules of the game and how to serve, bump, and pass the volleyball to each other in this fun activity open for all ages. Younger campers often start out with Newcomb and then work their way up to a traditional game format and rotation. You may end up with sand in your shorts but you’re guaranteed to have a smile on your face playing Wyomoco Beach Volleyball!

Comic Arts

Are you the “Class Clown”? Then this is the activity for you! Juggling, balloon animals and face painting are some of the skills that you’ll experience. You’ll also enjoy participating in comedy skits, learning jokes and playing games of the imagination. And no one here will tell you to “STOP CLOWNING AROUND!!”.

Canoeing and Kayaking
Canoeing in the splendor of our Western New York rivers and lakes can be a wonderful, lifelong activity. Wyomoco canoe programs offer something for everyone. On our three-acre pond beginner canoers will learn canoe safety and practice basic strokes and maneuvering techniques. They’ll develop the skills of combining strokes, adapting to wind conditions, navigating and self-rescuing as they advance to the Intermediate program.

Camp Wyomoco now offers you the excitement of kayaking! Our well trained, expert instructors will introduce you to many of the wonderful aspects of this awesome sport including the wet-exit, the Eskimo Roll and Rescue, and the Sweep Roll. This all takes place in the safety of our three acre pond. You’ll come away with a great sense of accomplishment when you work toward mastering the skills of Wyomoco kayaking!

Culinary Fun

What’s cooking at Wyomoco? You are! Culinary Fun is the only activity at camp where you can eat your accomplishments! Our camp “chef” will train you in the ways of the great cooks of the world or at least in the ways that Wyomoco campers will love! Hands on learning, great recipes and tasty treats will highlight our Culinary Fun activity.

Drama

If you know that “Hamlet” is not just another name for a small pig, then you may be who we’re looking for in our Drama program. Learn and participate in comic arts, drama, dancing and singing as one of Wyomoco’s talented cast members in preparation for a brief, end of the week performance for your camp friends! By the way, last year’s performances were attended by some pretty wealthy spectators. Squirrels were seen watching from the trees wearing fur!

Fencing

There’s a little Zorro in every child! Master the art of swordsmanship under the guidance of our fencing coach as you learn the rules and techniques of foil and epee fencing. Our instructor has studied fencing since the age of five giving him 22 years of experience in this exciting sport. Fun for boys and girls, beginners start as Squires as they first learn safety with Wyomoco’s state of the art fencing equipment. They then begin to learn fencing skills that are both mentally and physically challenging! They will practice balance, foot work, body movement and blade training. Within a few days, campers begin to spar as they cross foils with their peers. As they master more complex blade-work and competitive tactics campers will move through the ranks of Noble, Lord and with weeks of training be able to achieve the status of Wyomoco Knight!

Fishing

Catch the BIG ONE!! The pond at Camp Wyomoco is stocked with a variety of fish including sunnies, bluegill, bass, perch and ever elusive “Giant Grass Carp”. Bring your own gear or use ours and enjoy your time dropping a line in the water. Learn to bait a hook, cast and remove the fish from the line. If you’re a seasoned fisher-person or beginner you’ll see why people get “hooked” on this lifetime activity!

Gardening

Get Dirty!! You’ll “dig” the dirt when you take part in Camp Wyomoco’s Gardening classes. In this activity campers will learn to plant, cultivate and harvest the gardens of Wyomoco. The emphasis is on building a love for plants and the tasks gardeners of all ages enjoy. Any colored thumbs are allowed!

Hiking

Anyone ever tell you to “Take a Hike!” Well little did they know that when you take a hike at Camp Wyomoco you’re in for a great time! We have hiking trails throughout our 280 natural and wooded acreage. Less challenging hikes will be offered for young campers and for older campers who are looking to test their hiking skills geo-caching hikes will be offered. Take a hike? When you’re at Wyomoco say, “Sure!”

Horsemanship

Ride like the wind! As one of the only horse camps in the area Wyomoco prides itself in its expert instruction and spacious corral. Campers will learn at their level and can gain the knowledge and skills that are necessary to compete or ride for pleasure. We are now offering a “Getting to Know Horses” program for those campers that have never had the pleasure of striking up a relationship with these wonderful animals!

Horsemanship Class - This class is offered Weeks 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. An additional fee of $95 must be paid with your application and deposit.

Musical Production

Guys would you be Troy or Shane? Girls, Gabriella or Mitchie? In Musical Production you’ll work with campers and counselors to sing, choreograph, produce and perform a selection from one of your favorite musicals. No previous experience is necessary to be a part of the Wyomoco Theater Troupe. Just a willingness to have fun! Who knows? Maybe this will be your first step toward Broadway and TV!

Nature

Is it in your nature to explore nature? If so then you should take part in our Nature program. Camp Wyomoco has 280 acres filled with a variety of plant and animal life. Our newly renovated nature trails will guide you through the natural world of plants, animals and hidden treasures. Terrariums and aquariums are used for catching and observing wildlife until they are safely released back into their natural habitat. Is it fun? Naturally!

Outdoor Living

Imagine this, you’re hiking through the outback of Australia and suddenly your supplies are ravaged by a gang of ‘dissin kangaroos. You’re left there with nothing but your wits and your outdoor living skills. Well, if you took the Outdoor Living activity at Camp Wyomoco you wouldn’t be worried at all. Our expert staff will teach you skills such as building a fire and orienteering. By the way, these skills can also be used if you go camping with your friends or family.

Soccer

Everyone can play soccer! Campers can expect to improve upon fundamental soccer skills such as ball control, dribbling, trapping, and passing. Often collegiate athletes and coaches teach beginners the rules for throw-ins, penalties, corner and goal kicks. Skills taught at the intermediate and advanced levels include work on kickoffs, side-fouls, top of the foot, left/right curls and chipping techniques for shooting accuracy. Each class period saves time to play for fun while our Olympic week holds the wildly popular "World Cup" Soccer Tournament!

Sports

Be surprised each day when you sign up for Wyomoco Sports! Our staff will assess the number and ages of campers in the activity and decide on a sport for that day. It may be Beach Volleyball, Softball, Basketball, Golf or a number of other athletic activities. If you simply like to play sports and like variety the Sports is an activity you’ll enjoy!

Swimming

Our swim program is based on the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program, which ranges from introductory lessons for new swimmers to pre-lifeguarding skills and special Red Cross lifesaving for advanced swimmers. Every swim level emphasizes personal safety as well as stroke refinement. We are always delighted when a camper meets the requirements of a swim level and can be moved up to the next class! The program is closely supervised by experienced American Red Cross Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors.

Unusual Athletics

What do you mean you don’t know what “Frolph” is? It’s Frisbee Golf!! Camp Wyomoco now sports a new nine hole Frisbee Golf course! Throwing specially designed Frisbees campers will be challenged to become accurate and consistent disc tossers in this unique and fun-filled activity! But “Frolph” is only one of the zany activities in our Unusual Athletics Program. UA offers campers a variety of “sports” that you won’t find on ESPN! You might find yourself in a three legged race or a rousing game of kickball! UA has something for everyone but one thing for all and that’s FUN!

Water Games

Did you ever try to grab onto a watermelon covered with vegetable oil and then attempt to swim with it past a goal line? How about diving for gold in the shallow end of a pond? These are just two of the activities that you’ll enjoy when you sign up for water games! The games we choose at Wyomoco will be filled with fun and enjoyable for campers of any age. Classes will be broken down into activities for junior and senior campers to insure camper safety. Splashing and screaming will be the order of the day when you’re participating in Wyomoco Water Games!

Counselor-In-Training (CIT)

This 4-H program helps develop young leaders for our community. Camp Wyomoco's CIT Program will help you become a leader at camp, at home and in your community. It is also the first step in becoming a counselor at camp.

There are three levels in our program: 1, 2 and 3. In CIT1 and 2 classes you will learn and develop leadership skills amongst peers as well as younger community members. You'll begin to assume responsibilities in the camp community. CIT1's are at least 14 years old and CIT2's are at least 15 years old.

The CIT3 program is the highest and most respected level of our program. The 16 year old CIT3s are assistant leaders in cabin groups of younger campers and in classes. CIT3s also help develop and run special camp programs and themes. To become a CIT3 you must have completed the CIT1 and CIT2 programs at camp, as well as applying and interviewing for the program.
