| Captain Stark's Company of 1st Regiment U.S. Infantry is dedicated to the preservation of our past through research, living history interpretation, and excellence in historical accuracy. Accepting recruits (members), both male and female to portray early 19th century military and civilian. The main focus of this group is to educate the public about the American side of the War of 1812.
Captain Stark's Company represents an actual military unit stationed at Fort Madison (Louisiana Territory) during the years 1808-1813. Our group travels to various historic sites and reenactments throughout the U.S. |
The following rules are not intended to offend anyone associated with the 1st Regiment US Infantry, Captain Starks Company. These rules are offered as a means of maintaining the historical atmosphere at reenactments as well as build our reputation as a quality group.
General Camp Guidelines
In an effort to maintain the historical integrity of the event, all members and associated civilians of the 1st Regiment are expected to remain in period appropriate attire from opening morning to closing afternoon of the event.
Clothing needs to be kept in good repair -- which means no rips, tears, burns, or holes in inappropriate locations. Please obtain a sewing kit that can be used to repair garments on campaign.
No cell phones -- No Ipods -- No computers -- No portable DVD players. Leave your modern technology in your car or at home, it has no place in camp.
Drinks should be contained in a period vessel and modern containers disposed of properly. DO NOT LEAVE FOOD WRAPPERS, SODA , BEER, OR WATER BOTTLES LAYING AROUND CAMP!!!
The Sgt will assign camps details as needed during the event. (i.e. clean-up, water detail, wood detail, etc)
All members are responsible for providing their own eating utensils, dishes and cups. And, are responsible for cleaning these items.
Smoking will comprise of period pipes and/or cigars. NO CIGARETTES.
All modern items are to be concealed within your tent. Please keep modern items covered (even within your tent).
Civilian tents and military tents will be separate in order to maintain the integrity of each. All enlisted men should be house in small military wedges. Officers will be house in wall tents. Whether you are portraying military or civilian, your tentage should be appropriate to the War of 1812.
Standards of Dress
For females:
No make-up unless you are portraying a native American. Hair must be worn in a period fashion. If hair is long enough it should in worn in a bun. No ponytails. Short hair must be covered with a period day cap or head covering.
Camp Clothing is comprised of a shift, modesty cloth, appropriate head covering, dress or skirt w/ short gown with appropriate footwear. No flip-flops, sandals, or tennis shoes.
Jewelry
One earring per lobe--additional body ornamentation needs to be removed during the reenactment unless you are portraying a native American. No wrist-watches.
Visible non-period body art needs to be concealed or covered.
Eyewear -- We understand that not everyone can afford to purchase period glasses but when possible eyewear should be of close approximation to the time period or contact lenses worn.
Absolutely no fingernail polish is to be worn.
For Soldiers:
No visible body jewelry.
Uniforms are comprised of period appropriate shoes, fatigue cap/shako, a neck stock/cloth, shirt, trousers (no knee britches), suspenders, vest, coatee/frock/roundabout etc.
Visible non-period body art needs to be concealed or covered.
Eyewear -- We understand that not everyone can afford to purchase period glasses but when possible eyewear should be of close approximation to the time period or contact lenses worn.
Soldiers should be clean shaven according to army specifications - side whiskers are allowed (speak to the Sgt for guidance).
If you need help with any of the above rules or need clarification, please ask for assistant from the Captain or the Sgt. We want everyone to enjoy the reenactment while striving to maintain the historical period.
All repeat offenders will be banished!
