It snowed and iced so much in February 2011 that pretty much most of Dallas-Fort Worth shut down for a week. Here we are in our front yard exploring the winter wonderland. Gary III was not too thrilled by the snow.

Gary III officially started the "Big Babies" class at daycare, which he seems to really enjoy. The first day was quite eventful - he got into his first "fight" and fell down and scraped his forward. A little girl in his class, who was born the same week as him and started school the same week we did, decided she wanted a toy he had. So, she took it, he apparently snatched it back and she smacked him across the cheek, leaving a little scratch on his cheek. I was glad to hear he hadn't been the one to smack his friend, but the teacher quickly informed me that sooner or later he'll be the one to try hitting. Sigh...At any rate, the next day when I dropped him off, they seemed to be back to being best buddies.

And he's already learning a little bit of sign language - "more" to indicate he wants more food (typically snacks like Cheerios or for Mommy or Daddy to get the spoon loaded back up and in his mouth faster) and "done" to indicate when he's full and ready to get down and play. The "Big Babies" class also means that he only takes one nap a day and eats lunch earlier but has more afternoon snacks. The naps are no longer in a comfy crib - the little guys (and gals) have nap mats they snooze on. I stopped in for a visit during nap time and there they were all lined up sleeping away. The first couple of weeks, especially the transition week when he was half in the baby class and half in the "Big Babies" class, he came home from school exhausted and was grumpy, grumpy, grumpy, grumpy. But now, he seems to be back to his normal schedule.

For Gary Jr. and myself, it's back to the more fast-paced fall schedule at UNT. Typically, the campus slows down a bit for the summer but I'm not sure that actually panned out this summer. This fall, we have quite a number of events planned, starting right away with a week of reflection for the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, then our first football game in the new stadium and a variety of other things. It's gonna be busy...
