Casey's Canine Cancer Cause

Welcome to Casey's page.  Casey was born 08-17-1999 and was the love of my life.  We shared many happy years together.  In Nov. 2008 Casey was diagnosed with Lymphoma.  Casey fought a valiant battle, but lost to the beast on 02-03-2009.  

The purpose of this site is to bring awareness to other pet parents that cancer does happen and to learn how to care for your animal to prevent cancer.  1 and 4 dogs will have cancer in their lifetime.  Cancer is the leading cause of death in dogs over 2 years. 

Casey's Canine Cancer Cause has joined forces with Morris Animal Founation's Canine Cancer Campaign to raise money for prevention, new treatments and new studies in the fight against cancer and to find a cure.  Together, we can beat this disease.

There is a $1.50 park entrance fee per vehicle

Early registration is $30.00 for adults and $15.00 for children ages 10 through 17. Children under 10 are free. Early registration closes on November 21. Online registration closes Friday, December 3 at 5 p.m. MST. Event day registration opens at 9:30 a.m.

Casey's Courageous Journey

My sweet Casey lost his battle to Lymphoma on Feb. 3, 2009, age 9 yrs and 5 months. Today 08-17-10, as I post this page we should have been celebrating his 11th birthday, but cancer took that celebration away from us way too early. I have lost many friends and family from cancer, but hearing the horrible words “your dog has cancer” pierced my heart and soul. Casey was a strong boy and fought a valiant battle against “the beast” as I call it. He wanted to live, he wanted to stay here for me as much as I wanted him to stay, but “the beast” won in the end. He showed tremendous strength and courage during his surgery and chemotherapy treatments. He always had a smile on his face and a sparkle in his eyes every time he saw me in the waiting room at the hospital, so excited to be going him with his Mom.
The hardest day in my life was helping him make the journey to the Rainbow Bridge. I talked to him all day, telling him how much I loved him and wishing I could do something to take the cancer away, but I couldn’t make it go away. I made a promise to Casey that I would do everything in my power to make sure other dogs fighting “the beast” would have the possibility of survival with new drugs and treatments. My dream is to see a day when no human or animal would ever have to suffer from cancer. I can now be a voice for Casey and many other animals and do my best to educate dog owners about diet for their best friends, protection against chemicals and over vaccinating.
It was my fortune to meet so many wonderful people while Casey was on his journey. I met so many other doggie parents taking care of their best friend fighting “the beast”. We all formed a special bond that will never be broken. After Casey lost his battle with cancer I continued to research diets, treatments, studies and different hospitals, holistic treatments etc. in hopes of helping one of my new friends have more time with their best friend. One day I discovered the Morris Animal Foundation and the wonderful people involved with the Canine Cancer Campaign. I soon realized their commitment to finding new treatments for canine cancer and their ultimate goal to find a cure for cancer and knew I wanted to help in any way possible. They were beginning the K9 Cancer Walk program and I expressed my interest in holding one in South Florida. I’m so happy they selected Coconut Creek to hold the first K9 Cancer Walk in the state of Florida. I know the dog lovers in South Florida will come together to support this great cause. I hope to see you with your best friend on Dec. 5th at Tradewinds. If you live out of the area you can show your support with the “Sit & Stay” option and hopefully there will come a day when no doggie parent has to hear the dreaded words “your dog has cancer”.
