Orleans County Cornell Cooperative Extension (OCCCE) is searching for an innovative, team-oriented educator with 4-H experience and excellent organizational, facilitation, and writing skills to join our Education Team. The educator works with 4-H volunteers and youth to facilitate positive youth development in the 4-H focus areas of Family & Consumer Science, Animal Science, and/or Environmental/Natural Science (STEM), emphasizing science and technology, healthy lifestyles, life skills, and workforce preparation, as well as community service and leadership. A flexible schedule is required as events and program development committee (PDC) meetings are often held on evenings and weekends. Buildings and Grounds Manager Employment Opportunity
Orleans County Cornell Cooperative Extension (OCCCE) needs a Buildings and Grounds Manager who is a team player with maintenance experience, excellent people skills, and a flexible schedule to keep our Education Center and Fairgrounds looking their best! The Buildings and Grounds Manager is responsible for the overall maintenance and appearance of OCCCE’s grounds and physical facilities to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers, participants, and the public. Duties include preparing facilities for meetings, rentals, & events (including the county fair); mowing; snow removal; repairs; minor carpentry and construction projects; cleaning/custodial duties; maintenance of equipment; storing rental vehicles; set up/breakdown; and coordinating facility needs with the Program Director and/or designated staff/volunteers. Hours range from 20 hours in the winter to 30-35 spring through fall. Pay rate is $10-$12/hour with an excellent benefits package. All applications must be submitted online by March 6, 2014. Spring into Gardening Education Day: April 5th, 9am-2:30pm
The Master Gardeners are hosting the annual Spring Into Gardening Education Day on Saturday, April 5, 2014, from 9:00am to 2:30pm at the Education Center. There will be light refreshments provided in the morning, as well as a catered lunch. You’ll be able to take classes on Edible Wild Plants, Native Wildlife, Climate Change, "Supercalifragilistic" Soils, Water Conservation/Efficient Watering, and more! There will also be several hands on activities, including Jam & Jelly Samples, Woodpecker Feeders, Rain Chains, etc. The event cost is $35 for pre-registration, $40 for walk-ins, and $30 for senior citizens. 4-H Fair: July 21-26
Our 4-H Fair will be held July 21-26, 2014. Over 25,000 people attend fair each year to celebrate 4-Hers' achievements and enjoy community fellowship. Spacious classrooms, a 50' x 70' event center with kitchen, outdoor pavilion, and more are available for rental at the 4-H Fairgrounds. Rates are reasonable and can be tailored to your event needs. Pesticide Applicator Certification Training: March 7 & 11, Exam March 13
OCCCE is hosting Pre-Exam Training and the Test to Become a Certified Pesticide Applicator from 8am to noon on March 7 and 8am to noon on March 11 at the Education Center (at the Fairgrounds). The cost of the training workshop is $50.00 (with additional costs for manuals and the exam). Pre-registration is required by Feb. 28. Agriculture specialists Mike Stanyard and Debbie Breth will review core concepts and commodity specific items in preparation for the exam. The certification exam will be administered by DEC on March 13 at 1pm. The exam fee is $100 payable to NYSDEC the day of the exam. Call 585-798-4265 ext. 26 for a registration form.
