Lerone Matthis is a 29-year-old single father and re-entry student majoring in Business at City College of San Francisco. He is dedicated to helping fellow students challenged with similar backgrounds as his own. Lerone has also been a student worker at City College of San Francisco for the last two years in the Student Activities Office, all while making considerable progress in his education.
Active in Guardian Scholars, Equity Task Force
A former foster child himself, Lerone has been actively involved with the Guardian Scholars Program at CCSF
This program helps foster youth transition out of the foster care system into higher education. He has been dedicated to helping other students pursue their dreams by encouraging and helping them navigate CCSF.
He has been working on the Chancellor’s Equity Task Force to help reduce English remedial sequencing and provide Financial Aid solutions.
Lerone is also a recipient of the Office of Student Affairs Excellence Award, which is a tribute to the unsung heroes and heroines working at CCSF. He has also received the Fostering Futures Scholarship that recognizes former foster youth, for their academic excellence.
Lerone has successfully overcome significant challenges in obtaining his education and is now graduating from City College of San Francisco with Honors and has been accepted to UC Santa Cruz,UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, CSU San Jose and CSU San Francisco.^
Each year, (this time, two) one student among the graduating class receives the honor of being chosen to be Student Speaker. The student speaker is chosen by the Commencement Ceremony Sub-Committee.”
