Speaker Series II: Leadership in the Community
November 1, 2011, 3 :00 pm, Room 140
Presented by Offices of Student Affairs and Student Activities
Second of a series of Leadership In Action included guest speakers inspiring the audience on community service as social entrepreneurs; followed by engaging the student audience with a question and answer segment.
Social change is achieved through a grassroots environment. Community development has a deeper impact beyond the sidewalk; it unleashes individual and community power.
Talk with people who are involved in your community. Find an internship or volunteer, it gives the opportunity to develop organizational dashboard skills, fundraising experience and contribute to a cause you believe in while “making a difference” in your community.
It can be said that we can’t afford to volunteer because we need to earn a living. Actually, we owe it to ourselves to take a few hours to volunteer, to explore the limitless possibilities available once we step out into our community.
Reminders:
Danger in leadership is to have a know-it-all attitude.
People can’t drink from a fire hose, first find out what they want.
