From your CEGEA Co-President, Jenny Baer: Governor Quinn's budget proposal cuts funding for Illinois schools and organizations that assist with educating children with special needs. We need to act now! This week only, the Governor has opened his website for comments about his budget proposal. We need to flood this website with our input: tell him why schools need the money, why IL needs a balanced budget, the impact on IL children if we don't have the money, the impact on our ability to provide a quality education, etc. Realize that not only will we be impacted with reduction in force and budget cuts, but also because cutting specialized programs that deal with high needs children could put those children back into our schools with little support. Let your voice be heard. IEA would prefer that you used their website and link to the Governor's webiste:
But you can also to directly to the Governor's website:
It also wouldn't hurt to contact our local legislators: Keith Sommer, Dan Rutherford, and Aaron Schock.
Don't wait! Don't let someone else take care of this. This WILL impact every one of us in the coming years.
