THE SEED OF ABRAHAM OUTREACH MINISTRIES In Association with KIDS IN MEDIA PROGRAM (K.I.M.) and TVI VIDEO & STILLS PRODUCTION L.L.C. & Company presents “Ceremonies in Dark Old Men” April 29th – May 2nd at the Brown Coat Theater, 111 Grace Street, Wilmington, NC.
“Ceremonies”, was first produced by the Negro Ensemble Company in 1969. This classic by Academy Award® nominee, Lonne Elder III gives us the portrait of a Harlem family that dreams of a better life, but pursues it in tragic ways. “Ceremonies in Dark Old Men” is a dramatization of rituals – of survival, of friendship, of deception and manipulation, of self-deception, of male friendship, of shifting interfamily allegiances, and of black manhood. As Elder presents the ineffectual lives of a Harlem family entrapped by rituals of economic and spiritual dependence, he urges African Americans and African American communities to become aware of and to break free of ceremonies that assuredly lead to personal loss and tragedy. "Ceremonies" opened the door for a new generation of African-American playwrights, August Wilson among them. NBC-TV called Elder's dramatization of “Ceremonies”, "exciting drama, filled with meaningful insight and original comedy."
The Seed of Abraham Outreach Ministries in association with K.I.M., is a non-profit organization offering after school programming for students, however their programming is quite different from other after school programs. K.I.M. offers students the opportunity to learn how to write, direct, and produce their own stories and documentaries, classes in art and science are also offered. Recognizing the growing crime and dropout rate of our under-served and underprivileged youth we have taken it upon ourselves to do something about it. A child’s response to media is conditional to their own core values or lack of within their personal package of attitudes, and experiences—including past exposure to media violence.
We depend solely on sponsors and benefits such as this one to keep our program alive. Please support our future by supporting our youth through K.I.M. Creating our future one frame at a time. To learn more about K.I.M., please visit our website at: kidsinmedia.shutterfly.com
