The Winter State Board was held recently in Ontario. Orange
District LEADS candidate Elaine Davis, from Laguna Niguel Woman’s
Club, was introduced to the board members and attended a leadership
workshop. She did a terrific job when she addressed the assembly
Saturday afternoon. Competition, however, was stiff. With ten candidates
all very qualified, Elaine was not selected by the committee to represent California.
We, however, are very proud of Elaine and thank her for making Orange District shine! Thank you Elaine.
The March 14 Council Meeting is our Membership Celebration Event. Second Vice President/Membership Chairman, Mariellen Yarc, will be doing a special presentation to entertain and inspire our members. In addition, I have asked that clubs invite a special member they wish to honor at this meeting. I will be calling all club presidents to ask the name of that special member.
Membership Data Forms (data blanks) will be distributed to all club presidents at the Council Meeting. Please do your best to return these forms, rosters, and a club check by the deadline. Remember, Mary Sprague needs to process all and forward them to State. She also has a deadline to meet.
You will receive this CALL before this event but I wanted to thank Frances Phelps and Alison Wessler for all their work and dedication to making the Art Festival the success I am sure it will be on February 28th. Thank you also to Art Community Service Program Kelly Hornung-White who is procuring judges and coordinating the judging of the art. How enjoyable it is to see all the talent in Orange District! Don’t forget to come to the Art Festival.
I hope all will be coming to the April 5th Orange District Convention at the Costa Mesa Country Club. Three key happenings: State President Valerie Barnes will join our convention; you will be entertained by Fritz Colman of NBC; and you will elect and install your 2014-16 Orange District President Libby Buckley. We will also be showing our appreciation to the Bolsa Chica Conservancy by bringing in some of the items in their wish list. Copies of the list will be available at the March Council Meeting.
CFWC Convention will be held May 14 to 17 at the Doubletree San Jose. I will have further details at the council meeting for your club presidents to share.
See you March 14th at the Phoenix Club!
General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) is the parent organization of the California Federation of Women’s Clubs (CFWC) - Orange District. The GFWC mission statement encompasses those of its subordinate organizations. That mission statement is:
"The General Federation of Women's Clubs is an International Women's organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service"
The CFWC-Orange District 2012-2014 Administration’s Theme is:
Volunteers * The Heart and Hands of Federation
Our General Federation of Women’s Clubs exists due to its members, member volunteers who are the HEART of GFWC. This president also believes that the hands of our organization are the many hands of its member volunteers. The caring hands that shelter the hungry clothe the needy, honor this country’s veterans and so much more.
This administration’s special emphasis will be Literacy. Clubwomen can provide a valuable service to members of our community by participating in literacy events, volunteering in literacy programs or providing funds to such organizations. We shall keep those hands busy in the next two years to assure our organization's heart does not skip a beat!
