Welcome to Chaffee Trail PTA
Dear Parents:
I would like to take a moment to welcome you all back to Chaffee Trail Elementary School for the 2008 – 2009 school year. I am the new PTA President for this year, Lori Hoke. I have a second grade student here in Mrs. Foster’s class, Ella, and a fifth grade Patrol in Ms. Blackwell’s class, Walker. We have some exciting events planned for this year for the students and teachers. Last year we started the Annual Fall Carnival and we will be keeping with that tradition again this year. We will be kicking off our Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough fundraiser right after open house. This was a great way to raise money for the PTA to allow us to contribute to several of the school's needs. We were able to assist the resource teachers and some of their needs along with teacher supplies that come in short supply. We will have another Holiday Program for the children this year too. That was a great treat for all involved last year.
For some of you who are not aware of where the fees for the PTA Membership go, I would like to explain that to you. The membership fee is $5.00 per membership. Part of the fees will go directly to our school's PTA fund that allows the PTA Board to work to improve the school for the benefit of our children. The other part of the fee goes to the local and state PTA dues. We really like to strive for the highest membership possible with Parents, Faculty and Grandparents. Our school is able to apply for awards in each group of memberships. You will find an envelope attached to this letter that you can fill out and return to the school. We accept checks and cash. Please make checks payable to Chaffee Trail PTA.
I would also like to take a moment to encourage Volunteer work at the school. We always need Volunteers at school that can assist with several different things that will benefit our children. It is a great feeling to know that you are able to help the teachers with administrative items they need assistance with. Your child also loves to see you in the hall or in their class. It is very encouraging for them. We could always use volunteers in the cafeteria during lunch hours. It is greatly appreciated when parents, grandparents or other family members come in and read to the students or spend time in the media center, art, music and PE. Our teachers can always use some talent to help decorate their bulletin boards outside the classrooms. Please remember to fill out your volunteer forms and send them into the school.
I would like to thank you for being involved with your child’s school this year. I look forward to meeting you in the halls and at our Quarterly PTA General Meetings we will be having every nine weeks.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns you would like to address.

Kudo's to the person who is responsible for the info board out front. I love how it is updates on a regular basis. When will the classroon receive info on which booth we will be responsible for? Why Your School Needs a PTA
Shrinking budgets. Curriculum cuts. Increasing class sizes. Government mandates. The challenges of delivering quality education are daunting, to say the least. There is help. And the good news is it won’t cost you, the school administrator, anything. It’s the PTA. What’s more, is it won’t take much of your time to get a Parent Teacher Association started. Find just one parent in your school to take the lead, and before you know it, you’ll have a group of dedicated parents committed to doing what PTA does best: providing resources and programs to all families.
PTA addresses issues that are important to parents and public school administrators. We fight for the same thing—full funding, quality teachers, capabilities for schools to thrive. If your school or district does not have a school-based PTA, now is the time. Membership is open to everyone, your PTA is autonomous but supported by a national structure, and it sets its own dues.
Still need convincing? Here are just some of PTA’s benefits.
- Leverage Volunteer Power. PTA organizes hard-working and dedicated volunteers. Parents are ready and willing to help implement school improvement programs. All you need to do is ask and provide a bit of direction.
- Improve Communication. Frequently, one of a PTA’s responsibilities is coordinating production of a school newsletter and information fliers, keeping the entire school community informed of current events, issues, and accomplishments. In addition, regularly scheduled meetings are an opportunity for you to share information with members.
- See Measurable Results. More than 85 rigorous academic research studies conducted through over 30 years of research prove that kids do better when parents are involved. Grades are higher. Test scores improve. Attendance increases.
- Discover More Dollars. Local PTAs are self-funding. By inviting the entire school’s parent community to join, they generate membership fees to pay for programs. Local PTAs often organize fundraising events. Proceeds support school-based programs, building maintenance and improvements, and educational and social events.
- Tap into Proven Programs. Local PTAs have access to ready-made programs with proven success records. From health and safety topics, to collaborating with teachers and community members, to fundraising, the programs are packaged to be easy to use, and easy to get results.
- Boost Children’s Well-Being. PTAs focus on what students need to be successful in their learning, including nutrition, health, and well-being. Whether the issue is school safety, physical fitness, or healthy breakfasts, PTA works with school administrators to ensure that children are prepared to succeed.
- Enjoy Informed Parents. Perhaps one of the most important benefits is that involved parents understand the challenges schools face and become part of the solution. They support improving education, both locally and legislatively. By developing a closer relationship with parents, student achievement improves, and the school develops a positive reputation in the community.
- Fulfill NCLB Obligations. Finally, PTAs can help schools fulfill the parent involvement requirement of the No Child Left Behind Act. PTA understands the needs behind NCLB. In fact, it’s PTA’s definition of parent involvement that is used in NCLB.
Why Join the PTA
The number one reason to join the Parent Teacher Association is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school. But there are many more advantages. Here are just a few:
- Get Connected. There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school.
- Discover Great Resources. The PTA offers a variety of programs designed for parents as well as students.
- Tap into a Network. Parenting is not easy—it helps to share ideas, concerns and experiences with other parents and educators in the community. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind.
- Watch Yourself Grow. By volunteering with your PTA, you gain valuable experiences. It’s an opportunity to put your skills and hobbies to good use for a good cause—your child and all children in the community.
- Speak Up. Because the PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas, you are encouraged to make suggestions. PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child’s school.
- Witness Improvement. By getting involved at your child’s school you’ll be part of the solution, helping make positive changes. Local PTAs play an important role in fundraising to provide building improvements, curriculum-based programs, and social events—all vital to a school’s success.
- Be a Role Model. By becoming a PTA member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.
- Enjoy Substantial Benefits. Individuals and local units can take advantage of a host of benfits from PTa membership including discounts and offers from member benefits providers and sponsors, magazine subscriptions, leadership training, e-newsletters and much more.
For less than 3 cents a day, you can become a PTA member, joining more than 5 million other people who share your interest in issues affecting children. Everyone—parents, educators, students and other citizens active in their schools and communities—are invited to join our not-for-profit organization.

Tyson Labels
Tyson Project A+
Through a program called "Tyson Project A+™," we are helping parents and students earn money for their schools. After all, schools can't provide our children with the tools they need if the schools themselves don't have the proper educational tools.
Through this program, consumers collect redemption labels from selected Tyson products and turn them in to participating schools. The schools then redeem them through Tyson for cash. Schools can receive up to $12,000 to use however they see fit.
To find out more about this program and see if your school is participating, go to projectaplus.tyson.com, home of Tyson Project A+.
